Sit at a wooden desk and summon the writer's muse at Jane Austen's family home from 1801 to 1805.
In this immaculately maintained and lovingly restored apartment, walls teem with artwork and shelves overflow with curious objects. Original flagstone floors in spacious rooms lead to a light and airy kitchen overlooking the rose-filled courtyard.
From heated mirrors to surround sound, this award-winning space, furnished with an eclectic mix of new and old, does not compromise on comfort. The space Situated directly across the road from the world-famous Holburne Museum and Georgian Vauxhall (Pleasure Garden) at Sydney Gardens, Jane Austen's home in Bath is located in a Grade I listed 1794 Georgian townhouse. In this house, Jane started work on her early and unfinished novella, "The Watsons".
The apartment was once the kitchen and butler's pantry of the Austen home, and provides spacious accommodation in rooms packed with original Georgian features, from panelled walls to vast kitchen fireplaces, with a private entrance and front and rear courtyards.
The kitchen is stocked with good quality pots, pans, cutlery (silverware), glasses and crockery, and has a five burner Mercury range for the chefs in all of us. There is, of course, a dishwasher, a coffee machine, a fridge and a freezer - and a sink overlooking a rose-filled and sunny courtyard. Also within the apartment are a high capacity washing machine and tumble-drier.
The living room, which was the kitchen of the house, has a large chaise-style sofa, several ridiculously comfortable victorian armchairs, a William IV Indian Rosewood dining table and sideboard, a printer and monitor for those who just *have* to work, and a 55" television with surround sound system. It features original Georgian panelling, window shutters, flagstone floor and kitchen range.
The master bedroom was once the Butler's Pantry, and has a 1920's mens' wardrobe for your stylish attire, a 19th century Louis XIV double bed, and overlooks the quiet rear courtyard.
The rear bedroom, or "map room", offers a single authentic Japanese futon on tatami mats and wardrobe for clothing, and also overlooks the rear courtyard.
The bathroom has been newly refitted and includes a luxurious rainfall shower, underfloor heating, a heated mirror, and toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.
The front and rear courtyards both offer seating and sunshine.

Absolutely fantastic! It still doesn’t feel real that I stayed at Jane Austen’s house!
It’s also such a fun eclectic mix of antiques and modern art. Loved it!
Nearby you can walk across the road to visit the Sydney Gardens. You can easily get to the town centre and there’s a Morrisons Daily shop within around 5 minutes walk.
I highly recommend this amazing property.
Also Max was great! Such a lovely experience:).
The ambiance of this flat takes you back in time while offering modern amenities for bathing and dining. The eclectic art collection provides opportunity for reflection and historical reference. The communication flow with host Maxwell was immediate and extremely helpful. Well situated for a pleasant walk to city centre and all of the Bath attractions. Superlative in all regards.

About the host
Hosted by Maxwell
Hi, I’m Maxwell.
I’m working on restoring an ancient watermill and farm in Portugal with my wife, Anna, and we’re making our apartment in the City of Bath and our cottage in North Wales available while we work and travel!
Our Bath home was once the Austen family's kitchen, scullery, and vaults - the very place where Jane would have made tea and breakfast for her family, while looking out of the window onto the courtyard. Anna has planted some roses and other plants, so the view these days is one to enjoy!
Our cottage in Wales has been a labour of love between our travels, and has become a place of calm and peaceful respite that we’re glad to share with others in our absence.
We love travelling, reading, the arts and culture, and our homes reflect our sensibilities. For our guests to peruse and to get to know us better in our absence, we have left numerous books, knick-knacks from our past travels and family histories, and the various technological conveniences we enjoy at home. After years of travelling, we’ve come to appreciate the value of a good bathing experience, and we have therefore ensured that you can enjoy an excellent one in our home.
We welcome travellers from all over the world into our homes, and hope you can enjoy them as much as we do!
