About this property

Remote Cottage on the grounds of a working farm with central heating, smart TV and WiFI.

Low Faggergill Cottage is situated in an idyllic spot within the grounds of a working farm on the outskirts of the small hamlet of Whaw in Arkengarthdale. A true ‘get away from it all’ type of holiday cottage in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Nestled in a tranquil position, down a private drive, this charming cottage is a romantic retreat and ideal for cosy nights in. A delightful cottage that provides homely accommodation for two people within the most northernly dales of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and only a short distance from the Arkle Beck Meadows, a 21-acre site of Special Scientific Interest.

Step into the inviting living room with comfortable seating, an electric fire, a smart TV, free WIFI and dining area. The dining area is ideal for sharing a romantic dinner together which can be prepared in the compact, yet fully equipped kitchen which is accessed via the living room.

Upstairs there is a good size double bedroom with stunning rural views from the window towards the local moors and farmland. An ensuite shower room with w.c. basin and shower cubicle is located to the right of the bedroom.

The heating is provided by an efficient oil central heating system and additionally there is the electric fire for further heat or to create a cosy ambiance.

Outside, the front of the cottage is the perfect seating area to take in the countryside as there is an abundance of wildlife and birds to admire, let alone the breath-taking views of the surrounding countryside. This dales cottage is also within the boundaries of an official Dark Skies Reserve due to the area having some of the darkest and unpolluted night skies in the country. This makes this remote holiday cottage perfect for anyone with an interest in astrology as it is possible, on occasions, to see the Milky Way, planets, meteors and even the northern lights if you’re lucky!

There are numerous walks and bike rides straight from the door, making this remote accommodation an outdoor enthusiast dream. What’s more, there are two renowned pubs within a short drive away from the cottage, both ideal for an evening meal or a pitstop on your way back to the cottage at the end of the day exploring the local area. Tan Hill, well known for being the highest pub in England is only 5 miles away and certainly worth a visit. We’d highly recommend checking out what is on during your stay, as they often have events and live music which never fail to disappoint. Alternatively, there is The CB Inn (The Charles Bathhurst Inn), approximately 3 miles away and has an extensive wine and gin menu, a host of well-kept beers and a very tasty food menu!

Close by is the bustling market town, Barnard Castle, a picturesque 30-minute drive over the moor known locally as The Stang. Alternatively, the other local market towns of Hawes and Leyburn are certainly worth visiting with an array of gift and essential shops, cafes, pubs, museums, and restaurants. The Georgian town of Richmond is also around 30-minute drive, with fabulous cobbled streets, a Georgian Theatre and fantastic Castle. If historical buildings are of interest to you, then nearby there is also the imposing Castle Bolton at Redmire, the impressive ruins of Easby Abbey and one of the great Cisterian abbeys of Yorkshire, Jervaulx Abbey to name a few.

More locally, is the village of Reeth approximately a 12-minute, scenic drive from the cottage, along an incredibly beautiful road with the magnificent Fremington Edge to the right. Here you shall find the gift shop and post office with all your essential supplies, three pubs, a restaurant with the Burgoyne Hotel, an ice cream parlour, two bakeries and cafes and the Dales Art Centre.
