An absolute gem of a place. Patrick has created something really special here in Essaouira. Super artsy, full of character, and packed with incredible music (the vinyl and CD collection is unbeatable). Every room has its own vibe and interesting pieces to look at. Easily five stars, and we’re already planning our next trip back.

We loved staying here. The house is lovely with plenty of space and very comfortable. For me, the real winner was the garden - it was absolutely stunning and beautifully cared for with incredible plants, lots of cute tortoises and many different places to sit or lie. It also provided lots of sunshine and lots of shade - absolutely perfect! The swimming pool was great, although I would have liked for the filter to run more regularly as a lot of insects/bits of plants would collect on the top - we did use the net a lot but the filter was more effective.We had a delicious vegetarian meal cooked for us on one evening, which was delicious. Thank you for having us!

Amazing stay!

Wonderful stay, Patrick was always there to give advice before we arrived. The villa was beautiful rural but an oasis behind the gates. Said was on hand all the time for anything we needed, exceptional host. Plenty of space for all 10 of us, the tortoises were a joy Without hesitation i would return!inheartbeat

Gorgeous place!

Absolutely stunning place, beautifully managed by Said. All the rooms were beautiful and the pool absolutely amazing - the kids had a wonderful time. We got massages at the house and used the hammam, plus were cooked for by Said's wonderful wife, whose name I'm so sorry but have forgotten. Warm, friendly and unforgettable.

Fantastic villa. Very quirky, very colourful, very eclectic artwork and music. Garden and pool the highlights. Loved the local wildlife!Stayed as a multi-generational group for a relaxing summer holiday. There are four bedrooms with options to make up beds for more sleeping arrangements (note that beds are very firm), and plenty of bathroom option. Loads of storage, plenty of towels, lots of essentials provided/left by previous renters. Washing machine, dishwasher and lots of kitchen equipment, crockery and gorgeous bowls!The villa is such a delight! So quirky and interesting. Incredible artwork on every wall and in every space. The courtyard is a joy and the outside space just fantastic. We all absolutely loved the garden and the pool. Very private and always somewhere to find some shade and many options for delightful places to sit. We loved the local wildlife and colourful flowers were everywhere. Having the pool slightly raised made it so much less stressful for us with an 18 month old toddler. The pool is not heated but this was not a problem for us at all. Said, the very lovely and helpful manager, maintenance man speaks French but little English however, with the help of Google we got along fine. He organised airport transfers and car hire and always responded quickly to any requests. Only slight downside was the immediate location, 15-20 mins from Essaouira (you need a car!), the first 2km on unmade roads so no local walks to a cafe/restaurant in the evening!

Brilliant house and amazing garden/pool area

We were 3 friends who had a great time at the villa, we loved the house, but as the weather was so great we spent most of our time outside in the fantastic garden and pool area. Said was brilliant and was there whenever we needed anything, but wasn’t in our way at all. If you want a villa with loads of rustic charm then this is the place for you, though my one suggestion would be to take earplugs as there are some rather noisy dogs in the area, who only seem to become vocal at night. Packrick was great in organising our airport transport and giving us recommendations for days out. Would highly recommend this property.

Perfect Oasis

This property is incredible. Patrick was quick to respond to my (many!) messages and the property itself has everything you need for a perfect relaxing villa holiday. There are so many little places to relax (the hammock, terrace, sun loungers, games room, hammam etc) that even as a group of 7 adults + baby it was easy to find a quiet spot at any time of the day. Every inch of the place is beautiful and full of interesting items and artwork. Then of course there is the wonderful housekeeper Said who was there to welcome us on day one and helped us with so many things: excursions, masseuses to visit the villa(!), restaurant reservations etc.. He was so friendly and welcoming (despite the fact we could hardly speak French!) and he only showed up on request or very discreetly to take the bins out etc, so never got in our way or invaded our privacy. He was such an asset to us visiting Morocco for the first time and we can’t thank him enough. I have dropped one star for the location of the property because you absolutely need a car if you want to leave the villa, I wouldn’t recommend attempting to go anywhere on foot as all you will find is dry dusty tracks. If you want cafes on your doorstep then this property is not for you, but if you’re looking to truly unwind, swim, sleep, and spend quality time with friends or family then this place is perfect. Gemma is right. 50 meters from the house there is no pub to drink a stout. The car is an independence to visit this magnificent region. The very original Berber market of Ida Ougourd, the beach of blue pebbles to collect shells, Sidi Kaouki for surfing, the beach of Sidi Ambark pearl of the Atlantic etc... In the countryside, the tracks are signs of unspoiled nature. From the house the track leads to the argan forest, the symbol tree of the Essaouira region.

A fabulous holiday in a comfortable & unique home.

We had a fabulous week's stay at Dar Elwan, and are very much hoping to return again in the future. The service was excellent from the moment of booking, Patrick sent us regular emails with information and was very helpful in organising transfers and food for our arrival with Said who manages the house. Transfers all went really well with Said there to pick us up with no issues (in fact he had to wait ages for us due to a big queue at customs), and the food we ordered (plus extras including an amazing cake made by his wife) we all waiting for us on arrival. The house is comfortable, but the weather on our trip was great, so we spent most of our time outside in the lovely garden and pool area. We loved spending time feeding the many tortoises, and listening and watching the interesting variety of birds who visited both day and night. Said was great in taking us out to visit many places that we otherwise wouldn't have gone to such as the local market, and beaches. Although we don't speak great French and he only spoke a little English communication was not a problem and he was a great help to us during our stay. He also arranged for a fabulous dinner for us one night cooked by his wife - and yet another amazing cake. Dar Elwan is quite rural, about 20 minutes south of Essaouira, so you do need to either drive or have Said drive you to go anywhere including food shopping. There is a small local shop selling water and bread, plus other soft drinks about 1/2 mile away. If you've not been to Essaouira we would definitely recommend it, the location and scenery is beautiful, and although we love Marrakech, we prefer Essaouria as it is more laid-back. We would definitely recommend Essaouria as a place to visit and Dar Elwan as a place to stay.

Une superbe prestation ! La maison est très confortable, décorée avec beaucoup de goût et avec des matériaux de qualité. Un véritable havre de paix, où l’on se sent immédiatement bien, comme dans un cocon. Le jardin et sa végétation magnifique apportent encore plus de charme et de sérénité à ce lieu.Un grand merci à Saïd pour son accueil chaleureux et ses précieux conseils, toujours très avisés. Et une mention spéciale à Samira pour son excellente cuisine et sa grande discrétion.Nous avons passé un merveilleux séjour dans ce petit coin de paradis et y retournerons avec grand plaisir !

La maison de Patrick est encore plus belle en vrai que sur les photos: jardin enchanteur et très soigné, magnifiques terrasses, merveilleux patio, studio, belle et grande piscine et le joyeux coin pétanque ... Même à 10, on ne se marche pas dessus. Maison très agréable avec sa décoration locale qui recèle des trésors des artistes d'Essaouira, en une semaine on n'arrive pas à tout voir! Saïd et Samira sont charmants et aux petits soins. Pas grand chose à faire dans les environs immédiats et la route d'accès peut surprendre mais Essaouira et son marché aux poissons ainsi que le quartier des artisans et le souk ont plu à tous. Plages, quad, promenades à cheval, surf et excursions ... Les activités ne manquent pas. Nous recommandons vivement!!! Merci Patrick pour ce super séjour !

Evasion en famille

Séjour d'une semaine en famille.Température idéale, la maison est très chaleureuse , on s'y sent chez soi. Samira a été aux petits soins pour nous, chaleureuse et d'humeur égale, un vrai plaisir et un plus pour notre séjour.Nous avons pu faire concilier activités à Essaouira et activité sur place (piscine-partie de pétanques). Toute la famille a apprécié ce séjour.Je recommande cet hébergement et nous parlons déjà d'y retourner.

Riad typique et accueillant

Un gite tres agréable, personnalisé qui a servi de cadre à nos retrouvailles familiales. Nous nous y sommes sentis comme chez nous. La variété des pieces, leurs decorations culturellement si riches, la piscine et nos amies les tortues ont permis un séjour pour petits et grands enthousiasmant. Les petits dejeuners de Samira et ses plats marocains resteront dans nos mémoires ainsi que la gentillesse et la disponibilité de Said. Nous étions sous le charme d’Essaouira et du légendaire accueil de ses habitants. Les contacts avec Patrick, empreints de sympathie et de la volonté de nous guider resteront un plus. Nous nous sommes promis d’y revenir.... Que du bonheur

Un havre de paix

Honneur aux dames en particulier à Samira, qui incarne la bonté, la gentillesse, et la bienveillance. Sa cuisine est tout simplement exceptionnelle, me rappellant celle de ma mère. Said, quant à lui est une personne très gentille, toujours prête à repondre à nos questions et nous apporter son aide. Patrick, le propriétaire est vraiment disponible et bienveillant , il a su nous guider et nous conseiller à distance. La Maison est magnifique, son jardin nous a émerveillés tout au long de notre sejour . La piscine,le hammam,les chambres et le salon sont irréprochables. je vous souhaite d'avoir la chance de séjourner chez Patrick . Pour terminer, Essaouira, est une perle et sa region est sauvage et authentique idéale pour des vacances en famille ou entre amis . Mille merci la famille Amari

Fantastisch verblijf gehad. Prachtig huis, waar iedereen zijn eigen hoekje had. Samira en Said zorgen voor alles wat je ook maar nodig hebt, van een heerlijke maaltijd, een versgemaakt ontbijt tot het regelen van uitstapjes tot het vermaken van een platte autoband!

Sejour exceptionnel en famille de 2 á 88 ans.

La maison typique est non seulement accueillante, confortable, paisible, bien decoree et équipée mais un lieu culturel en soi. Chacun y a trouvé son bonheur que ce soit dans le jardin fleuri qui invite au bain de soleil, au repos, á la petanque, á la pisciine, á la lecture de nombreux ouvrages tous les plus interessants que les autres invitant á la decouverte des differentes facette de cette merveilleuse ville et de sa culture dont on tomberait vite amoureux. Vous serez reçu aux petits soins. C est un point de départ interessant pour visiter la côte Atlantique et profiter de ces belles plages, surf, coucher de soleil, les poissons fraichement péchés...les marchés typiques...un vrai bonheur. Wir waren mit zwei Familien dort und haben zwischen den Jahren einen sehr erholsamen sowie erlebnisreichen Urlaub verbracht. Super Haus, super Köchin, super Verwalter - der Aufenthalt ließ keine Wünsche offen.
