This is a totally different hotel concept to the standard elsewhere. There is no reception or housekeeping staff, only personnel to provide the breakfast each morning. That means you can get a room more cheaply, as the hotel operator has lower costs that are partly passed on to guests. My room wasn´t cleaned, the bin emptied or sheets changed in the four days that I was there, but I can live with that. The doors are operated using a code you type in, so there are no keys or passes you have to carry around to open them. One liberating aspect of my stay!
The absence of onsite staff did have a drawback however: when it rained, there was no-one to remove the cushions from the seating on the rear terrace, so they got totally soaked and couldn´t be used later when the rain stopped. That´s a great pity.
The main attractions here are the peaceful setting, beautiful views over the countryside, and beautiful artworks spread out across the house, including paintings, books and collections of dolls and ceramics. All on display for guests to admire. There are two comfortable lounges, one of which has a billiard table and television with multiple channels. I couldn´t get any channels on the television in my room, despite me scanning for them. There´s also a large swimming pool which I didn´t enter, but would be nice in hot weather.
I didn´t find the other guests particularly friendly, and in fact, a lot of them were clearly uncomfortable with sharing breakfast at the one and only kitchen table, with complete strangers. Couples and families would come down for breakfast, and be whispering and not talk to anyone outside of their group. Others simply munched their food staring at the table, or their smartphones!
This is the ideal place to come to relax and forget the hustle and bustle of city life. It´s the type of hotel where you can enjoy just being there, perhaps spending most of your time there, instead of simply using it as a base to explore the region.
