Pretty Flint Cottage in South Downs National Park

Make yourself at home in this pretty flint cottage, opposite East Dean’s village green in the heart of the South Downs National Park. Situated on a private row, with a pretty garden and beautiful walks from the door, it is a welcoming base for families, friends and their pets. During Goodwood events, the village stirs with a buzz of excitement; at other times, it is sleepy and peaceful—a lovely place to slow down and unwind.

**Walks from the doorstep**

There are beautiful walks in every direction. Head up to the South Downs Way, just over two miles away, for sweeping views across the countryside, or explore miles of paths through the cool, elegant beech woods.

For a leisurely outing, walk approximately three miles to Goodwood for breakfast at the Bar & Grill. Whether you prefer an energetic run, a long country walk or a gentle wander, there is plenty to explore.

**Time to unwind**

Relax in the pretty garden or linger over supper as swifts, swallows and house martins swoop and call overhead on summer evenings. On warm days, the thick flint walls help keep the cottage cool. Open the double doors, settle on the sofa with a book and enjoy the feeling of bringing the outside in.

The homely, well-equipped kitchen makes eating in a pleasure. If you would rather let someone else cook, book a table at our village pub, the Star & Garter, where Jim and the team offer a warm welcome.

Fibre broadband keeps everyone connected, and our collection of board and card games offers plenty of scope for friendly competition. The garden is fenced, providing a defined outdoor space for families to enjoy.

**Explore the area**

East Dean is a wonderful base for countryside, coast, culture and Goodwood days out. Places you might enjoy include:

- Goodwood: horse racing, golf, the Motor Circuit and Aerodrome, with cafés where you can watch the cars or planes.
- Art, gardens and historic houses: Goodwood Art Foundation, West Dean Gardens, Parham House, Uppark and Arundel Castle.
- The coast; West Wittering Beach and Chichester Marina.
- Theatre and cinema: Chichester Festival Theatre, New Park Cinema, Cineworld.
- Sport and swimming: Cowdray polo and golf near Midhurst, golf at Goodwood and leisure centres in Midhurst and Chichester, and Arundel’s outdoor swimming pool.
- For younger visitors: Cocking playground and the play area at Priory Park in Chichester.

A cot is also available for an infant. Maximum occupancy is four adults, one child and one infant. Please check that this sleeping arrangement suits your group: there are three beds in total, so some guests will need to share a queen-size bed.
