Perfect Vacation Or Getaway in the Big Belt Mountains
Tucked well within Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest in the Big Belt Mountain range, and down the road from the historic gold mining town of York. Our Montana home sits next to a babbling creek overlooking beautiful wooded property with national forest on all sides.
This home is the perfect get-away if you are looking to;
Seek relaxation and natural beauty
Enjoy waking up to the peaceful sound of the creek and singing birds
Appreciate beautiful views of the forest, and watching deer play in the yard while drinking morning coffee, and watching the wild turkeys stroll by in the afternoon
Fish within a few steps away from our home
Relish exploring and searching for abandoned gold mines minutes from the cabin.
Trying your luck panning for gold in the creek or watching the kids play in the large yard or searching for arrow heads nearby.
If you answered yes to one or all the above, then Trout Creek Treasure is the place for you!
Our home is perfect for family fun, a quiet getaway or a group gathering. This home features three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, vaulted living room ceiling, a wood burning woodstove and ultramodern, well stocked kitchen with granite counter tops, two ovens and a microwave. This open concept kitchen is perfect for preparing meals for family and friends! This home features an abundance of beautiful windows which look out to the forest and has carpeting in the bedrooms for those chilly mornings. There are two queen beds and a full bathroom downstairs. Upstairs, in the loft, there are two single size beds, a bedroom with one full sized bed and the second bathroom. In addition, the couch can fold out for added space. This home can comfortably accommodate eight people with room for the kiddos and sleeping bags in the loft.
Stay in and relax or go out and explore the back roads in and around the Historic York area. There are many options during your stay.
A short drive to the friendly York bar, famous for their hamburgers, a fifteen-minute drive to Lakeside for gas, convenience store, boat rentals, and dining on Hauser Lake. The drive to Yacht Basin or Kim's Marina on Canyon Ferry Lake is 30 minutes through the scenic Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest.
Historic downtown Helena is just a short drive. You will find restaurants, shops (Pan Handler is a favorite), art galleries, historic St. Helena Cathedral, Saturday Farmer’s Market, and several micro-breweries that serve food, and excellent beer. Go a bit further to the west of town and enjoy a soak in the Broadwater Hot Springs. Since you are in the Capitol city of Montana, why not take in the beautiful landscaped capitol building, the Charlie Russell Museum, or enjoy the historic tour of Helena via the Last Chance Tour Train?
In the spring, summer, and fall take advantage of the proximity to the scenic trout creek canyon hiking trail (15-minute drive). This canyon trail has only a 500-foot elevation, so it is an easy hike for hikers of all ages. The area is a perfect place to spot wildlife. In August, the annual York 38 special bike race occurs. You can cheer on the racers as they ride by. York fest and the famous duck races happen in September which support the local fire department. (This is a lot of fun!) Purchase your Duck race tickets at the York bar and the best part is . . . you do not need to be present to win!
Missouri River, Hauser Lake, and Canyon Ferry Lake are close by and offer fishing, boating, kayaking, sunning, paddle boarding and general water fun. Horseback riding is available close by too.
Would you care to journey in the hills, pan for sapphires, fish, eat local fruit, make jams?
Hike up Refrigerator Canyon, Trout Creek Canyon, Hanging Garden, and the upper Beaver Creek just pass the Cribbage Capital of the World, Nelson Montana, and remember do not forget to look for the Mountain Goats!
Pan for sapphires at the nearby sapphire mines.
Fly fish for Browns and Bow's on the un-dammed section of the Missouri River at the mouth of Beaver Creek while you imagine Lewis and Clark walking up the river. Fly fish on the upper Beaver Creek for Brook trout and marvel at the majestic limestone scenery. Fish not biting, no worries, go for a hike and enjoy the awesome views of the big belt mountains.
Feel free to pick chokecherries and apples on the property in late August /early September and make jams to take home to enjoy later.
Enjoy.

About the host
Hosted by Robert Zelenka
Born and raised in Montana. Attended the local Warren elementary school located off York road about 12 miles from the house, and Helena High School in Helena. Once I had my driver's licenses , I never passed up the chance to fish at the York bridge after school, and on weekends (weather permitting) . If the fish were not biting, we would hide our poles and go hiking up into the hills above York bridge. We discovered the old flumes that transported water to the gulches further down the river over a 100 years ago. Long story short, I joined the Navy after high school, I stayed with the Navy for nearly 7 years, before being discharged. I was able to find a job that started 4 days later in the heart of Silicon Valley, but somehow ended up working for medical device companies, in either R&D or Operations. About 10 years ago, I was visiting my parents, and we went hiking in the Trout Creek Canyon trail just down the rode from the house. On the way out, I saw this property was for sale and I knew I just had to have it.
Why they chose this property
To me, this property is magical. There is always something to do, either fish, hike or just sit on the deck and watch what might walk by. Plus every time I cross the York bridge, memories of the good times fishing and hiking there come back.
What makes this property unique
One the most unique benefits of the property is Trout Creek, which flows year round around the back side of the house. The creek is literality steps from the master bedroom and the sounds of the creek will put you to sleep.
