One hour & 15 minutes from Chicago! Create family traditions at Big Red!

Big Red was built in 2015 by Cornerstone Builders. Big Red has an open floor plan with many upgrades including a six burner gas wolf range and subzero refrigerator with a spacious dining area both in and out on the screened porch.

The open kitchen allows for big gatherings with lots of counter top for many cooks to be in the kitchen! The gas grill is located conveniently off the eat in screened porch and great for morning breakfast and coffee. Big Red is next to the kiddie playground and is surrounded by beautiful tall oak trees up on a hill, and presents a very private setting.

There are 5 bedrooms including 4 queen beds and 3 sets of bunks.


The home sleeps 14 comfortably and there is room to include additional mattresses or cots.

Two of the Queen bedrooms have flat screens for TV viewing and a door that leads out to the 2nd floor deck with comfortable outdoor furniture for star gazing.


Big Red is equipped with 4 full bathrooms, 1 of the bathrooms has a full bathtub and the rest are showers.

Big Red has a laundry room with full size facilities.

Big Red's family room is amazing with a large screen TV and cozy fireplace and enough seating for all! It's truly a home to create family traditions!

The upstairs has a Jack and Jill bathroom between two of the queen rooms.


Downstairs is a quiet room with comfy sofa's and chairs, and plenty of beach gear, toys, games and sports gear.

Big Red comes with a matching golf cart to drive the family down to beautiful lake michigan or just to tour around and enjoy the view!

Ammenities include full size pool, basketball courts, volley ball courts, multitple playgrounds, paddle boats and kayaks

Parking for two regular size cars. SUV’s and additional cars park in overflow lot a few houses down block.

We had a wonderful stay at Big Red! The layout of the home is conducive to having functional family time, the kitchen is well stocked for cooking, plenty of showers, fire-pit was great, and screened porch made for a useful extra space. Any needs we had were addressed, communication with owner was great.

Big Red Get Away

Beautiful home close to the beach and pool. The kids enjoyed going to the park daily. Lots of close activities nearby, zoo, outlet mall, botanical gardens. Enjoyed our stay!

A wonderful family trip!

We absolutely loved staying at Big Red! The house was perfect for our family - grandparents, parents + 3 kids. The location is perfect (next to the park) and the house is comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. The owners were easily accessible and very quick to respond to anything we needed. We’ll be staying again next year!

Great House

We really enjoyed our stay at Big Red! The owner lives nearby and was very communicative and helpful before and throughout our stay. The location is great and having access to the golfcart was extra convenient. It was really nice having a place with so many beds and bathrooms for several families to stay together for a reunion. Highly recommend, and we hope to be back again in the future!

We had a great week staying at Big Red. Plenty of room for large families (12 in our group ranging in age 1-67) to share meals, cook, play games or just hangout. Kitchen is very large, updated and well stocked. The owner was close by and very quick to respond when asked a question. Lots to offer for all ages.

I could not say enough good things about this house and the owner! We had a wonderful week at "Big Red". The house and its amenties were exactly as advertised (if not nicer). The house was clean and stocked full of toys for the kids, movies for the family, and beach supplies. JR took great care of us and we had a family vacation that we won't soon forget. Thank you JR!

A fine family time at the beach!

We were a party of 7, ranging from 2 to 74 - and we had a great time being together. We used the golf cart or walked to and from the beach ( a 10 minute walk at most), swam, cooked, ate, read, etc. The 2-year old loved being right next door to the playground (and the golf cart!). We took short trips to Sawyer, the Botanical Gardens, the local movie theater, and the Casino, but mostly took it VERY easy. Michigan City is easily reached from Midway Airport too. The kitchen is very well stocked for cooking; the house is very clean; there are many beach towels, etc. and the house sleeps 14!

Perfect for 3 Families

We have been traveling to Beachwalk for years. This was our first time renting at Big Red. The space was perfect for our 3 families (14 people) with kids ranging from 7-14. It was conveniently located right next to the park. We had some minor inconveniences pop-up after arrival (light bulbs, batteries, low tire issue on the golf cart). The host was prompt to respond and assisted with correcting the concerns and even offered us to stay an extra day for the inconvenience. Although we weren’t able to stay, we were able to make our checkout a little later which was a wonderful option. Thank you JR & Theresa for hosting us.

Indiana Dunes

Loved the open upper back deck with Adirondack chairs on it & how it stayed shady & cool with the trees behind it. Jonathan was very quick to respond with any questions we had, his home was very clean & well kept up & the location was perfect for getting to the beach. The golf cart was a lot of fun in getting to the beach or the pool & it was a bonus to have beach supplies already provided for us in the basement. Expect to have to park in the overflow parking lot just a few doors down if you have more than 1 vehicle though. Overall our group of ages 8 months through 77 years old had a great time & I would recommend staying there especially if you like the beach which was wonderful.

Fun in the Sun!

My family of 16 (8 adults, 8 children) enjoyed our stay at Big Red. The house accommodated our large family and we had plenty of space to sprawl out. The property manager was very accessible and answered our questions in a timely manner. The kitchen had high-end appliances which were much appreciated when cooking for a crowd. The screened in porch was a great place to have breakfast and lunch. The amenities of this property include access to the Beachwalk Resort pool, fishing lake (including paddle boarding and kayaking), Lake Michigan Access access, and you can use the golf cart to zip around. There were beach towels accessible and also some other handy items (beach chairs, umbrellas, and sand toys).

The house is amazing. The kitchen was very well equipped. We brought our own kitchen aid mixer and discovered they had one. Coffee maker and Keurig were there Two sizes of crock pots. Sharp knives. Great appliances. We used the washer and dryer we brought our own detergent but they some there. The screened in porch was great. Everyone loved the golf cart. The beds were nice lots of towels were there. We had 8 people 2 were small children. The deck on the second floor was beautiful but we did not utilize it. The host was on site and very kind and nice Thanks for a good reunion

Big Red is the perfect family vaca place

The Big Red House is the perfect place to have a family vacation! Plenty of bed and bath space. The kitchen is large with first-class appliances. The laundry room has big appliances for those large loads in case it's needed. There's plenty of sitting areas from the front porch to the two decks across the back of the house. They overlook a nice tree line making it feel secluded. The grill worked great. There's even a little fire pit in the front. The house is next to a common play ground our kids really liked when we weren't using the golf cart to go to the beach. A small lake for free kayaking and water boards along with the pool, a little fishing pier and snack shack is within a couple of blocks, an easy stroll from The Big Red. The owner was quickly available when we had questions. Lots of toys, games and movies available in the house. Our family group loved it!!

We loved Big Red

This was a great family house. Huge open kitchen, dining and family room. We spent hours on the shady, screened in porch. Everything worked well and was very clean. The owners were super responsive. The area is perfect for multigenerational families. You never have to get in your car! We walked or took the golf cart everywhere. At night, the whole neighborhood is filled with families sitting around a campfire. It’s such a happy, peaceful place!

Great house in a fun area

We enjoyed our stay at Big Red. The house has a great Kentucky Derby theme with cool art and mementos. The neighborhood is a golf cart vacation rental community with a pool, a lake with a small beach and easy access to Lake Michigan across the street from the community. The house has a nice layout with a big living room and nice sized kitchen and dining area and a screened porch that has tables for additional seating that we really enjoyed. The bathroom situation is a little odd -- 4 full baths total but one is in the basement and one on first floor. There are only 2 bathroom upstairs that all 5 bedrooms share. Lots of towels, including beach towels and a nice laundry room. We loved having the golf cart to zip around the neighborhood. JR is very responsive and quickly got back to us with what we needed. House was mostly well stocked. We needed to ask for a broom and the only vacuum was a roomba that no one could figure out -- a regular vacuum or a nice broom with dust pan would be nice. The area is neat -- we enjoyed Washington Park zoo, free Thursday evening concert in the park, the friendship Botanical garden and the Dunes state park.

Why they chose this property

We love Beachwalk with its beautiful home colors and white picket fences! It’s really a hidden gem and only one hour away from downtown Chicago.

What makes this property unique

BIg Red is one of the largest homes in Beachwalk and is very private as it backs up to the park. The open floor plan makes it special for large gatherings. The house has a Kentucky Derby theme with beautiful art work throughout. BIg Red is the nickname of Secretariat the winning Derby horse!
