Fantastic place. Really enjoyed our stay and were very communicative. Only issue we had was that beach has been gravelled whereas in the picture it looked like sand in our kids like in the sand, still gets five stars because of how nice everything else was.
We enjoyed our stay over a spring long weekend. The home is well equipped and very funtional overall with great viewes on all levels. We were disappointed there wasn't a BBQ as advertised which left us to figure out alternate meal plans after arrival. The thermostat reset itself to a low 16c temperature mutiple times during the stay which never allowed the basement entertaining area to achieve a comfortable temp. The wood frieplace was used to help with the main floor heat and it worked very well! This may have not been a great choice for our time of year but it would be fantastic for a warmer stay and use of the lake and the property to its fullest.
Place was super clean and well stocked. Lots of space and indoor spaces for the kids especially the loft area! Bathrooms are spacious and sleeping rooms are just as big.
Great location! The cottage/home is well maintained. It is well stocked with all our needs. The owners were available for any questions that arose.Theres a canoe and paddle boards available for use. Plenty of games to play. A very nice dock with plenty of seating.Id recommend this listing!
The Knighton family's cottage is the best you'll find. The host was responsive and the cottage had everything one could want: lots of room, great location, well-stocked, a firepit and a huge lakeside deck, gentle water entey for kids, multiple sitting/play areas, SUPs and lifejackets to go around, nothing was missing. My family came from all over the US and Canada, ages 3 to 65, it worked great for us.
This was one of the best cottage we have ever been to. Very clean and atmosphere is amazing and breathtaking!! We had so much fun!!
Thanks so much for letting us stay at your beautiful cottage!!
We had amazing family getaway. The accommodations were amazing plenty of space and things to do. we visited in the winter and enjoyed watching a family movie next to a cosy fire. There was tons of snow and there were beautiful views of the snow covered lake. We look forward to returning in the summer and enjoying the lake.
We had such a wonderful time. The cottage is beautiful, spacious, and full of thoughtful touches.
We're already looking forward to coming again next year!
The cottage is gorgeous, I’ve already recommended it to many. Thank you Lisa my family and I had an amazing weekend and are already planning for next year.
Our group had a blast at Lisa’s cottage. The waterfront is beautiful and so is the house. We had lots of space and activities to keep us entertained while it rained. There was something for everyone. When the sun came out we were able to take advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoy the lake. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We hope to be back in future.
This is an amazing place. We spent 10 days during our semi annual family gathering. We enjoyed the fire pit and the swimming and paddle boards. The bedrooms are all great including the bunk beds. I haven’t slept in as bunk bed since I was a kid but these are not IKEA!
I would recommend this location as long as you can handle the long walk down the stairs to the to the beach. Our age group was 71 to 86 and we were good with it.
Beautiful landscaping
We had a group of friends up here to celebrate our upcoming wedding and it was an AMAZING place! We had everything we needed, the beds were comfortable and the rooms easily accommodated our group of 11.
The place was clean, exactly as shown in the photos, and the dock/waterfront was SO relaxing. We spent an evening by the firepit and it was definitely a highlight of the stay. Having a dryer was much appreciated when it rained one day while we were out golfing.
Only things I'd advise future renters on;
- don't forget to read the document the owners send with all the info, I missed it and ended up asking them a number of questions that were already answered
- plan for garbage removal! You must take all your trash & recycling with you at the end of your stay and we were almost out of room in our car. If we had planned, we would've taken smaller bags with us on days we went into town.
Overall it is a very nice cottage, with good location and road access. Our family of 9 adults and two children under 10 enjoyed our stay. We offer the following additional comments pro and con for your consideration.
Pro:
• Easy parking for four vehicles
• Nice view from the house and balcony,
• Beautiful landscaping,
• Dock large and very stable,
• Good fishing,
• Fire pit was well located and very useful,
• Reliable wifi,
• Lots of tvs,
• Comfortable furniture,
• Nice bedding,
• Ping pong table was great fun for the kids (and adults),
• Paddle boards were very enjoyable;
• Beautiful view of the stars on clear nights,
Con:
• Dryer broke down on the Saturday a few days after we arrived. The repairman did not arrive by Wednesday, the day we left,
• Kitchen & dining area are rather cramped if all 6 bedrooms occupied,
• The dock is relatively far & pathway quite sloped away from the house, making it difficult to access for older people;
• There is some erosion around the path to the lake about half-way down with water seeping through, making it necessary to walk on the stones to the side of the path which can be unstable,
• Garbage dump is really far (~30 minutes drive).
• No adult life jackets,
• Limited thermostat control and cold basement rooms,
• Some things seemed to be in disrepair (ie several broken Muskoka chairs at fire pit, dehumidifier in basement was never running, the dryer as noted, canoe paddles)

Hello Keith,
We are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay.
Sorry to hear that some of our amenities did not meet your satisfaction. We sincerely appreciate the feedback so that we can continue to improve our guest experience.
We looked into all of these issues and hopefully will this shed some light on your concerns.
We had the dryer looked at by our repair man as soon as possible and it he found it was not broken. It was in perfect working condition. I can confirm this because we were at the cottage following your stay and used the dryer several times. Not sure what happened during your stay, sorry about that.
The erosion you are referring to on our path leading to the lake was caused by bad storm shortly before your stay with us and a tree fell and cracked one of our stones along the path and left a indent in the grass. We noticed the same thing and walked to the left of the stone on the landscaped grass. We are looking into getting that fixed immediately.
We allow our guests full use of the thermostat and don’t place any restrictions on how hot or cold you would like the temperature to be. Basements are normally more cold than the main floor.
We have several resin Muskoka chairs surrounding our fire pit area and at the dock, which are very sturdy and not at all broken. The broken Muskoka chairs you are referring to are extra plastic chairs that someone brought and left there.
We don’t leave the dehumidifier running and leave it up to the guests if they would like to turn it on or not with no restrictions on use.
There are paddles for the stand up paddle boards and the canoe located near the dock.
As for the slope towards the lake. Unfortunately, we are located on the top of the hill…however, that’s why there is the great view! :)
We have a very detailed description and pictures on our site which state that the path leading to the lake is sloped and may not be ideal for some people. this is definitely something to keep in mind before booking.
Thanks again for staying with us and all of the great feedback.

Went with a group of girls for a bachelorette weekend. Nothing exciting just a low key girls tripe away. I am not particularly outdoorsy and a bit of a princess. This place totally exceeded my expectations. Get the cottage experience without roughing it! All the girls were comfortable and had a blast. I will definitely be back with family!

How can this be rated "wonderful"?
Truly scratching my head after seeing everyone's recent reviews. Where should we start...
1) ANTS, lots of ANTS! Once you enter the property they start greeting you in the kitchen, big ones coming from around the fridge. Then you see them on the bench next to you when you're eating at the dining table. Then you see more of them in the floor below on the ottoman. Then you see them around the toilet and shower. We know it's close to nature and we should expect some bugs, but the ants infestation indoors is really over the top.
2) Once you enter the property, you get a strong smell of the last occupant's brunch (and possibly dinner?) and the smell lingers so it didn't give us a good vibe from the get-go.
3) Utensils in the kitchen cabinet, particularly the plastic bowls and frying pan, has ketchup-like stains and again you can see and smell the last occupants' meal(s). We ended up tossing our food that was cooked on the pan because of this. Cleanliness (and hygiene) is an issue and you can see black stains in sink and shower as well.
4) No blankets and no bed sheets. There's a single sentence (which we admittedly missed) about no linen in the rental document, and we were blanket-less for the first night till other family members brought blankets the day after.
5) Insufficient hot water supply. We had couple families with kids, and after one kid having a bath and another adult showering, there was no more hot water left and every other person had to wait for almost an hour for water to be heated in between.
6) Air circulation is an issue at the main floor (which may explain issue #2 above): during daytime the air is very humid and stuffy because it faces the sun, then at night the air is very dry indoors, which makes it hard to relax and sleep.
7) Stingy on toilet paper and paper towels. There are only 2 rolls on site. Unforeseen in other cottage stays. Rental document mentions bringing your own. Just wanna remind others to really remember to bring your own here.
The outdoor set up was nice, view was great and canoe was fun though.
Our stay was fantastic and there was an array of bedroom configurations - which is perfect for several families staying together. They had the most adorable loft which was perfect for kids! The lake was beautiful and quiet, and the hosts are super great people! Would highly recommend!!
Made lots of great memories staying at the knightons family cottage! Was a great week and flew by to fast. Beatiful veiw of three mile lake and beautiful cottage.
Great location on the water. Very serene and peaceful!

About the host
Hosted by James Stewart
We purchased this cottage after searching for two years and fell in love with the property. We decided to renovate a few things on the interior, but we focused mainly on making the exterior space more enjoyable for our family and guests. We're excited to share our home away from home with families that will enjoy the space and take care of it as their own. Our neighbours are incredible! We're very easy going and accommodating.
Why they chose this property
We've always loved Muskoka and jumped at the opportunity to be on a smaller, family friendly body of water in 3 Mile lake. Not to mention the fishing is incredible for large walleye, smallmouth and largemouth bass.
What makes this property unique
Shea House is off the beaten path but also close to Bracebridge and Port Carling. It's located in Green Bay on Three Mile lake with fantastic fishing and swimming right of the dock! The lake is a smaller body of water compared to the Big Three, but still big enough for fishing, water sports, tubing and just ripping around on Jet Skis/Boats - and perfect for paddle boarding, kayaking and canoeing.
