Storybook Cottage 5 Minutes from Town with Private Dock with Kayaks, EV Charger
Roostica Cottage was recently featured in Cottage Journal magazine. But it’s not just good looking. Whether you crave outdoor activity, a low key retreat, or first class shopping and dining, Roostica offers it all.
Renovated and designer appointed, our storybook cottage hosts a group as easily as a romantic getaway for two.
The amenities begin outside where a circular driveway accommodates several cars. The garage offers a 240 volt outlet for electric vehicle charging and a flagstone walk provides easy access to the front door. The vaulted great room is just one step up. Here a large gas fireplace and designer decor welcome you in. Large windows provide wooded views of Lake Sequoyah, the biggest lake in Highlands.
Prefer fresh air? Step into the adjacent screened-in veranda. Here, overstuffed wicker and a wood burning fireplace beckon, especially nice for winter days or cool summer nights. There’s also a daybed for napping, a table for alfresco dining, plus that wonderful wooded, water view.
Back inside, the den offers a wood burning fireplace, WiFi, flatscreen TV with streaming and cable, and a fully equipped kitchen that opens into the living area (so the cook can be part of the fun). Keurig coffee makers in the kitchen and master bedroom offer starter pods and creamers. There is also a basket drip coffee maker and a french press if you prefer. You also have a choice of dining locations: sit 3 at the island, 4 on the veranda or 8 in the great room.
Don’t feel like cooking? You can walk, or kayak, to the elegant “On the Veranda” restaurant—5 minutes on foot—or make reservations on Main St., a 4 minute drive.
Finally, after a day of shopping, dining, exploring nearby waterfalls and other nature activities, retire to one of Roostica’s three bedrooms—all with private baths.
The upstairs master offers a king bed with fireplace, sitting area, flatscreen TV, private coffee station and wooded, lake view.
For those who appreciate easy access, two main floor suites—one with two twin beds, the other with a queen—await only one step up from the driveway.
The lower floor offers cable TV, foosball, and other table games like ping pong. You’ll also find board games, books, puzzles, and more. With a twin size daybed and twin trundle that makes up into a king, plus the basement half bath (not yet renovated), this area is suited for young teens or children, with the added bonus of a full size washer and dryer for mom and dad.
Outside, a path winds gently through the backyard & across the road to a private dock with kayaks. In warmer weather you also can fish, swim or just play in the water. Feel like cocooning? Log into Roostica’s internet, watch cable TV, or build a fire. Firewood is stacked next to the garage.

We stayed for 2 weeks and had a wonderful stay. Location in Highlands is a big plus, as it’s a quick drive into town and nice to have a small doc to go fishing with our little girl. Would recommend !
Fantastic layout with space for folks to retreat to their rooms or everyone hang together in the common areas. The screened porch is awesome.
Downtown Highlands is a short, easy drive.
Beautifully decorated home!
Even though the weather wasn’t great, we enjoyed the 4 fireplaces and many comfortable areas to relax. My favorite parts of the home are the great room/dining room with huge stone fireplace and the screened porch with fireplace overlooking woods and the lake.
I can't say enough good things about this property. The owner is fantastic to work with and I have near been in a rental property that was that clean. It had plenty of room for the family and could be in Highland in 5 minutes. Can't wait to return.
House is lovely. Beautiful property. Location is great- quick drive to town and lots of great hiking spots. The house has everything you could need, including lots of board games and books. Property manager is fantastic- very responsive and detail oriented.
Lovely updated cabin / cottage feeling and clean convenient location. Instructions and access to everything outlined .
Easy communications with manager….. only one recommendation; the coverlets , blankets and quilts needed clean. Thanks l
We absolutely loved staying at Roostica! Incredibly cozy and comfortable and provided just what our family needed..cozy setting, comfortable beds, screened in porch for meal times, kayaks, beach towels and an excellent assortment of fun games. Everything we needed was right there. We spent our days hiking, rafting, golfing and exploring and it was so wonderful to come in each afternoon to such a lovely place. We will return again for another stay at roostica! Only issue we had was trying to work the TV. We never could get it to work. Wasn’t a huge issue for us but if you desire to have TV you may want to make sure you get all directions ahead of time.

Hi Molly,
So happy to hear you had such a wonderful stay! We strive to provide a fantastic experience for every guest. We are sorry to hear you had difficulties using the televisions during your stay. We have since updated the televisions in every room in an effort to create a better guest experience. Each television is equipped with streaming capabilities and cable is provided in the living rooms. We also provide HuluTV as a complementary streaming service.
We hope you will return for another stay at the Roostica Cottage and please feel free to let us know if there is anything else we can do to further improve the quality of your stay!
We stayed two weeks and most things about the house met our expectations. The glassware, especially wine glasses, need a major update. We had to add/change light bulbs in several places. The refrigerator had to be replaced during our stay—and the ice maker did not work after replacement. (owner responded quickly to replace refrigerator) The description of the downstairs, particularly the “half bath” was not what we expected. Overall, the house is very nice and well appointed.
Our girlfriend get away to the highlands, could not have been any more special. Everything about this home was well thought out and cozy! The furnishings, the decor, the fireplaces ...everything just made you want to move in permanently. The ease of communication to the manager with any questions I had was exemplary. Another precious guest had commented about the tight turn, going up to the master area, as well as the access to the toilet, might be a little challenging for those without great mobility… But I will say if that was the case, they would be staying on the main level and not upstairs anyway. We found it to be charming and not a hindrance at all. The linens were in great shape, lovely in an abundance of cozy throw blankets to nestle in front of any of the four fireplaces. Downtown was also very easily accessible just a few minutes away, even though you feel like you are isolated from the rest of the world. Highly recommend you book this lovely home and explore everything the area has to offer. We look forward to coming back year after year!
This property was perfect for our family gathering. Beautiful home was located close to town and hikes. We enjoyed every inch of this property and highly recommend a stay here. The beds were super comfortable, with the softest sheets (everyone in our group commented on this). There were 8 in our group and this house had everything we needed. We want to return and highly recommend.
The feeling of seclusion, the reflections on the water, the obvious love and thought that went into the cottage’s decor and updates made us instantly feel at home. It was the perfect size for a couple—we weren’t dwarfed by its dimensions. Yet Roostica easily accommodated 8 when family comes to visit.
In a nutshell: Roostica’s “expandability”, its location next to world class dining and shopping, and the dramatic beauty of the Highlands was, for us, an irresistible combination.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
What makes this property unique
Roostica is fabulous for a romantic getaway, but also suited for a larger, or multigenerational, group.
Access is only one step up from the drive, good for those with mobility issues, or strollers. Parents can sleep upstairs for privacy, or on the main level to be close to children.
There is also the lower level for watching cable TV and playing games. Here you’ll find rainy day books and games, plus ground level access to the back yard. With the basement half bath, a daybed and trundle, this area best suits young teens and children, with the added plus of a laundry room for mom and dad.
We hope you find Roostica Cottage as flexible as your needs. Please come and visit soon!
