Absolutely loved the privacy and peacefulness of the cabin. It was perfect for us to relax in. There is lots to do in Cody and Yellowstone but great to just stay and unwind.
This cabin was perfect for us! It had everything we needed. It was very clean. The bed and couch were very comfortable. The property is beautiful! It is an amazing drive into the park!
The cabin was in the perfect spot. We spent three very long lovey days in the park and one day enjoying Cody.
The cabin was just the right size for the two of us. Clean, cozy and comfortable. Highly recommend!!
Doug and Yvonne were so welcoming and inviting. The cabin experience was wonderful. It was super clean and had everything we needed. We were checked on daily and alway provided with many recommendations of places to see in Cody. Very sweet couple.
We were glad we found Yvonne's and Doug's cabin. It was what we were looking for for our time in the greater Yellowstone area. Nice and quiet, set back from the main road, and a wonderful rustic feeling (loved the bed!).
The kitchen is well equipped, not the newest, but worked nicely for the cooking that we did.
Doug spared a lot of his time giving us an introduction to the grounds, the area / attractions, and what to look out for (wildlife), next to having some good chats in general (We'll get to the German lessons next time).
The only thing that you should be aware of is the distance to Yellowstone if that is the main reason for coming to the region. It is a very scenic drive into the east side of the park, but you need around 30 minutes to reach the east entrance of Yellowstone (it is very scenic, however!), and then another 30-40 minutes before you reach the Fisher Bridge visitor center. So if you plan to hit the park early in the monring before it fills up, plan to get up early, as parking for many popular areas fill up fast in the summer season.
We hope to be back - Yvonne & Doug: Thank you for having us!

My fiancée and I stayed here for the Perseid meteor shower and we were not disappointed. This place is situated almost perfectly between Cody and Yellowstone's east entrance, so there were an abundance of activities to do in the area. The place was a little dated but the amenities were perfect. Yvonne and Doug were fantastic hosts and were available at almost any time to give recommendations of things to do in the area. They were extremely friendly too!
Beautiful cabin on private ranch with breathtaking views! Location is great for exploring Yellowstone and Cody. The cabin was very clean and well stocked. The ranch was very safe and peaceful. Perfect cabin to have a relaxing stay and to unplug from any distractions!! Great communication with owners and they offered very helpful suggestions. We would highly recommend this cabin!

Everything is set up so well and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and meeting our hosts. They had great suggestions and were very hospitable and accessible. God willing, we will book this wonderful and peaceful cabin again if in Wyoming!
This rustic cabin was a perfect location and the hosts were wonderful and easy to connect with. While here, we enjoyed Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Cody rodeo, amazing scenic drives, Bighorn Canyon (boat ride too) and Heart Mountain. The rustic cabin on the ranch added to the entire trip!
Hosts were awesome, had a quick change of plans and they made it work, beautiful place, definitely would come back. If your offer goes south please call tori

About the host
Hosted by Yvonne Kappelmann
Summers in Wyoming and winters in Texas, we have enjoyed our beautiful Wyoming home for 27 years. We are happy to share our knowledge of the area with our guests and welcome them to our "unplugged" Wyoming life lived in the midst of God's glorious creation. We love traveling, the arts, organic gardening, and family time together.
Why they chose this property
Born in Wisconsin, Doug fell in love with the Wapiti Valley when, as a boy, he visited Yellowstone with his family. The opportunity arose for him to spend several summers during high school and college working at Wapiti Lodge, just down the highway from the ranch. During his first summer there, he wrote home and asked his dad for permission to stay through the winter and care take the property across the highway from the school. As one would expect, his dad was less than enthusiastic and wrote back that Doug needed to come home and finish school and that maybe someday, if he got a good education and good job, he could buy the place. Twenty years later, those words proved prophetic. As we drove though Wapiti on our summer vacation to Yellowstone, a "for sale by owner" sign loomed on the very property which Doug had hoped to manage. The dream was resurrected, and we have called Wyoming home each summer for the past 28 years. In 2011, we purchased the adjoining ranch on which our vacation rental properties are located from the church and a charity which had operated a children's home for a time. We had spent many happy hours on the ranch with church picnics and potlucks, church rides and rodeos, and junior camp, vacation Bible school, and youth activities, and the property held a special place in our hearts. Wapiti Valley Ranch became an extension of Doug's dream and an opportunity to share the wonder of the western experience with friends and visitors from around the country and the world.
What makes this property unique
With two six-bedroom homes, a lodge, and a cabin, this property offers the authentic Western experience. Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the ranch is the perfect place to unplug and soak up the beauty of the Yellowstone region. Although the ranch is just off the main highway between Cody, WY, and the East Gate of Yellowstone, it feels secluded, peaceful, and private.
Only 30 miles from the East Gate of Yellowstone National Park, the ranch is a perfect base for exploring the greater Yellowstone region. Horseback riding, hiking, and fishing are all near by.
Cody, home to the world-famous Center of the West with its five separate museums, also has art galleries, river rafting, grocery stores, and great shopping and restaurants, and a nightly performance of the Cody Nite Rodeo, is only a twenty-five minute, scenic drive away. There are also several restaurants and a small convenience store within five miles of the ranch
While each of the buildings on the ranch are rented individually and offer privacy and seclusion, the proximity of the building also make the ranch a perfect spot for larger gatherings and family reunions. Please contact us to inquire about renting the entire ranch.
