The Columbia River Gorge, with its mountains and rivers, offers the vacationer and recreation enthusiast the opportunity to windsurf, mountain bike, kayak, golf, ski, hike, fish, or just relax in the unhurried pace of a natural paradise. Historic buildings line the beautifully scenic streets of downtown Hood River, with a bustling shopping district featuring boutiques, designer shops, outdoor adventure gear outfitters, antique shops, art galleries and no less than 30 restaurants.

There are many orchards and vineyards in Hood River. The Hood River Valley is known for its luscious apples, pears, cherries, peaches and other fruits, and for the view of the majestic snowcapped peak of Mt. Hood. People from all over Oregon make an annual trek in the fall to the many farm stands to stock up on fresh apples and pears. Other produce is available, and varies by season. The award-winning Hood River Vineyards is located on a hillside overlooking the Hood River Valley. Their tasting room features traditional wines, and fruit liqueurs.

The Columbia River Gorge, with its magnificent views make this a dream spot for a destination wedding.

Wind surfing capital of the world is Hood River's latest distinction. The winds from the Columbia River Gorge, best during the middle of the day, create ideal conditions for riding the waves. To enjoy the view of "boardheads" at play, drive to the Columbia Gorge Sailpark or follow Second Street to the waterfront.

The Mt. Hood region and its more than sixty miles of forested mountains, 77 waterfalls and myriad lakes and streams are a rip-roaring mecca for outdoor adventure. The mountain is home to four ski areas and offers the country's only year-round skiing and snowboarding.

Perfect hood river home
This home was perfect in every way: very clean, very spacious rooms, stocked well with dishes, pans and other cooking needs, nice views of the river, close to downtown. This made our sisters trip very enjoyable. Would definitively stay here again. Only one minor issue, one shade in master bedroom could not be drawn up. This was reported and they were willing to fix it it right away but we were ok with it being fixed sfter we left.

Spacious Place in Hood River
3 Bdrm split level with lots of space made it a comfortable place to use as a base for exploring the area. Easy to get to historic Hwy-30 down the Columbia Gorge for hiking and photographing waterfalls. It was harvest time so enjoyed doing the 'fruit loop' and getting fresh fruit (love the O'Henry peaches!). On a whim drove upriver to Maryhill Museum - an unexpectedly great museum. Would stay here again next time we are in the area.

August Hood River at Salmon House
We enjoyed our stay at Salmon House. The house was clean, well equipped but the middle shade in the upstairs primary bedroom is still broken (first reported Sept 2022), the sheets don’t fit the beds, it would be difficult to sleep more than 6 and you have to double up 2 to a bed to sleep 6, there’s a futon but it’s barely large enough for a small child, there’s only one small (36-40”) TV in the entire house, and the parking is barely adequate for two small cars, if you have a car larger than a small SUV you’ll only get one car in the driveway and our Audi Q5 barely fit in the garage, there’s no street parking allowed, there are conflicting instructions about garbage pickup procedures and check-in/check-out in the emails verses instructions left at the house, the view in the listing makes it seem more remote but in reality the view from the downstairs living area looks out on 3 duplexes across the backyard but if you look over them there’s a nice view of mount Adams, the view from the primary bedroom is much better. Overall the house was clean, comfortable, and in a good location a short 5 minute drive or 30 minute walk from downtown, we would stay again but only with 4 people, not 6, especially if there are couples with kids.
