The room layout was a little deceiving, the 5th bedroom was really a small room off of another room that did not have a door. So, not really for five different families or groups of people that needed their own privacy.Hot tub was also a little dirty and water didn't seem

The home was large enough to host many people though our group was small. There were games to play and plenty of seating for eating. The kitchen was accommodating for May to cook.attention to cleaning could have been better and privacy for the hot tub was nonexistent so we didn’t get to enjoy that amenity but overall the stay was decent. The weather didn’t cooperate but that’s not something anyone can control except the good Lord. If you have a large party looking for a home base to go on adventures turn up that wonderful pellet stove and enjoy your meals in the big gourmet kitchen!
We had a wonderful stay at Hawks Bay Chalet! We got to have all our kids and grandkids under the same roof. The property was well appointed and had everything we could need. The staff made everything so easy. I would definitely rent with Frost Cabins again!

Thanks for the great review! We're glad you enjoyed the home and hope to host you again.
Our original booking had a flooding issue the morning of our check in. We were give an immediate alternative and it could not have worked out more perfectly.
We stayed here for a weekend of boating in Lake Cascade with our group of 10. The location is very convenient and it was only about a 5min drive to the boat launch near Tamarack resort. The driveway had plenty of room for our 4 vehicles and boat with the gravel portion on the side of the paved driveway. Very spacious interior with many nice touches and decor. This was a summer stay in mid-July, but our group still utilized the hot tub and fire pit during the cooler evenings. The house was well equipped with the teens we had that love games and made ample use of the pool table and air hockey in the garage and fooseball in the large bedroom upstairs. Great stay and would use this place again for another boating stay or skiing adventure!
We take a week long ski trip every winter as a family and this house had plenty of room for our large group. It was very clean and had plenty of dishes for us to cook with. We made every meal there loved the gas stove top. Do know though that the wifi is very limited in its ability to stream. But we just used a phone as a hot spot that allowed us to stream shows without buffering. Over great time.
The property was outstanding. Everybody had enough room for sleeping and the living room and kitchen area were awesome. The hot tub was fantastic and the back patio was pleasant. The only thing I would recommend would be to redo the directions to the cabin as they did not have the actual physical address or the correct street to turn on. It took us a while and a call to the property managers to find a place. Not too big a deal just slightly inconvenient. It is a great place and we would do it again.
My group enjoyed our stay.
Everything for the most part was good. Our suggestions for Improvements would include fixing the pool table, it was damaged when we arrived. The kitchen could be stocked with better quality knives, pots, pans, utensils. The hot tub did not maintain temperature when it was in use, so you might have the heating system inspected. We had to limit use and cover it so it would heat up. The beds were comfortable and the house felt clean.
I would stay here again.
Thanks,
G

Grant- Thanks for reviewing your stay at Hawk's Bay Chalet. The pool table does have a single, small tear in the felt. We've alerted the owner and they are reaching out to repair companies to determine a path forward. We also noted that the hot tub was in "Sleep" mode when our maintenance tech arrived after your departure. Instructions on how to put it back into "Standard" mode were provided in your guest book, and if you would have called, texted or emailed, we would have happily walked you through how to get it back into the correct heating mode. Glad you had a stellar time, though! :-)
Thanks,

House is worn. Pictures were taken when it was new. Upper bedroom was unfit for use do to horrible smell and flooding. When we asked about the room smell, we were told with the amount of people we had we didn’t need to use it anyway. Dishes weren’t clean. House needs some upkeep.

Tara-
I paid to have the pictures on the site taken last year (summer of 2022). Note- it looks quite different in the winter than during the summer. The house has normal wear and tear and is not brand new, however.
Your review requires some context and is misleading. Your stay coincided when there was 4'-5' of snow on the ground and immediately after one of the snowiest two week periods in history. There were a number of buildings in the area that had so much snow that roofs that never leak, leaked, and many were damaged and/or failed. I was alerted this home had an area of the roof where an ice dam had formed and water dripped in, unnoticed for possibly a week, through the smallest bedroom's sidewall; where the floor meets the exterior wall. When I was made aware of this problem, I called a company to remove the ice from the problem area and put a fan in the room to dry the subfloor and carpet.
Your group was given the choice to relocate to another home, but indicated you didn't need that extra bedroom and would be just fine as it was a minor problem.
Wet carpet certainly does smell bad, so I've schedule a company to entirely replace the carpet and pad with new brand flooring.
I'm sorry to hear that you discovered some dirty dishes. Unfortunately, I
imagine this is due to guests sometimes putting dishes away without being completely clean, so I've ask the cleaner to check them between stays.
Great location. Only 10-15 minutes from Tamarack. Easy check-in process. Responsive management company. House was big enough that we could’ve brought more people. Very clean. Only criticism I have is that we were notified the day before we got there that the dishwasher went out but never had follow up on if it’d be repaired so we washed dishes the whole weekend which was fine. It would’ve been nice to know that no one was coming.
The only other thing is that I wish they had a notebook or something that had a detailed explanation of how to operate the pellet stove, spa, garage heater, and thermostat. Previous renters had experienced issues with the spa being put in to sleep mode and I accidentally did the same thing. It took a lot of Google searching to figure out how to put it back in standard mode. The pellet stove was great but we weren’t sure if we could leave it on all day and the remote kept saying the house was only 54 degrees. The thermostat on the second floor was on a schedule and the first night we
Froze even though we thought we turned the heat up. As it turns out if you turn the heat up and hit ‘ok’ it actually puts it back on the schedule. There is an air hockey table and a pool table in the garage but it was kinda cold and we couldn’t figure out how to turn on the ceiling mounted gas heater. A few basic instructions would be nice to make it a little easier for the renters.
All that being said, it is a great house and plenty of room for all your kids. We would definitely stay again.

Nice, but for sale
I am trying to be fair with this review. The property management team does answer the phone and does respond, so that is a positive. My big issue is the amount of money we spent for the "days" we were there. Could not check in before 4:00 PM and had to be out by 11:00 AM or you would be charged another day. The cleaning crew was still there when we arrived, asking us to wait another 20 minutes (so we got in around 4:40 PM. They had a showing earlier that day, and evidently some HVAC work done the day before, because the cap to a gas line in the garage had been left off. Thankfully we found it and got the cap back on. The HVAC unit is also extremely loud. When it kicks on, it sounds like someone is starting up a motorcycle in the garage.
The home is nice enough, but we have 4 elderly / disabled people that cannot climb stairs very well. The only bedroom on the main level is small and has glass "den" doors, so everyone can see you. There is a murphy bed in the front sitting room, but again, there are no window coverings, so everyone driving by can see inside. There are a lot of beds upstairs, but the bathrooms are inside bedrooms. So, if you stay in the bonus room, or room off the bonus room, you have to either go into someone else's bedroom to use the restroom, or go downstairs again.
The home is nice enough, don't get me wrong. It is close to the road and you are able to locate it easily. The neighborhood is nice and many places are being built. The house has it's issues like every house does. It just didn't flow as well as I had hoped and was not as accessible for our elderly people. And when you pay for 3 days, you only really get 43 hours.

MaryLou- Your numbers are off. You did not pay for 3 days; you paid for 2 nights. The home was listed “for sale” during your stay, which had no impact on you. The driveway camera shows you arrived at 3:39 and went inside, as the cleaner departed. Therefore, you were able to check-in early. This home is not listed as handicapped accessible, but it does have 2 beds on the main floor, as well as a full bathroom. There are blinds on the bedroom downstairs, but not in the den. No work was done to the HVAC prior to your arrival (none was needed), so I’m unsure of what cap you “heroically” replaced, but it must’ve caused the loud issues you referred to, as we had to dispatch an HVAC repair tech after your departure to repair whatever you adjusted. We have an amazing crew to fix things and we’d prefer you reach out to us when there are questions during your stay.
The property is great! Very nicely furnished and clean. All of the beds were reported to be comfortable. It has a pool table, shuffle puck and Foosball table. The kitchen has everything you'd need. Bring ice though!
There are 3 real bedrooms. 2 have bathrooms inside. The bedroom downstairs has the bathroom right next to it. This is also the only bathroom that isn't in a bedroom. The 4th bedroom is inside the bunk room so not totally private. The bunk room is huge. The people staying in this bedroom and bunk room had to go downstairs to use the bathroom as the other ones upstairs are in the other bedrooms so you'd have to walk in on someone sleeping in order to use those ones.
The hot tub wouldn't heat to above 98 degrees which was a bummer after a day of skiing. We weren't aware of the issue until the second day that we were at the property and it was around dinner time so we didn't notify the rental company until we checked out.
There was also a lot of clean up work to be done-stripping all of the used beds, starting a load of laundry, washing all of the dishes, taking out the trash. This was not made aware to us (except for the trash removal) until we received our check-in instructions which was right before arriving and we had booked 3 months prior. You also have to pay an owner's fee (assuming part of it goes to a cleaning fee) so it doesn't seem right to have to do all the cleaning. Also, you have to sign a rental agreement through a different rental agency in addition to VRBO.
Overall, I would highly recommend this place, as long as you are fine with the extra clean-up even though you pay a fair amount in owner's fees (I'm assuming some of that is a cleaning fee). We had a great stay and were able to fit our group of friends. It is about 10 minutes from Tamarack so a great location if you want to spend a weekend on the mountain. I would definitely book again!

Kari - Thank you for your review. Our records show that the hot tub was set to 102 degrees before your arrival. After your group checked out it was set to economy mode - this doesn't let the hot tub heat up. Also, there are laminated instructions that explain how to use the hot tub. I wish you'd let me know during your stay and I would have gladly pointed you in the right direction.
Also - our definition of a bedroom is a room with beds, that has at least 4 walls. Not a room that has an attached bathroom. We hope to be able to get the chance to host your group again in the future. Thank you for leaving the home tidy upon departure and following the check out instructions. -Jonathan
