Farhaven is a wonderful escape from the busyness of every day life! The property is secluded, yet the cottage has great amenities and is very clean and well stocked. We appreciated the variety of farm animals and gardens available to experience and explore. Mark was very accommodating and was keen to share with us what was happening on the farm.We will definitely be returning!
We wanted quiet and this totally fit the bill. Great base for hiking in Lost Maples and Garner State park. The place is simple but clean and comfortable. We loved our weekend on the farm. Exploring by day and star watching from the patio at night.
We came for an anniversary getaway and mostly to hike Lost Maples. It’s a good thing In thought to bring lots of groceries. My husband is a type 1 diabetic and since the location is quite far from shopping and dining. It was sheer luck that we had enough food, and had we not been prepared in this way, we would not have been able to stay. Also, since the location is so far, we were a bit disappointed that there was literally no entertainment available in our cottage- no television at all, no music, no movies and a very poor selection of games. Although there was equipment available, nothing seemed to be hooked up and it was of no use. It would be great to incorporate a smart tv so at least a person could stream their own movies and shows.
Mark and Nancy are excellent hosts. Very friendly and responsive. The cottage was perfect for us. We had everything we needed and everything worked like it should. Spectacular stargazing in the evenings and peaceful coffee drinking in the mornings! We loved exploring the farm and the produce stand and happily brought home some delicious treats. We fell in love with Utopia, Lost Maples Cafe, The Laurel Tree and Sunday night football at The Blue Flame. We can't wait to visit again!
I mistakenly booked a place that didn’t have laundry facilities, so we had to go to Leakey for that. Also, there’s no dishwasher. Both of those were okay for a short stay, so just make sure you’re okay with “simple lodging”.
Amazing property. Kids enjoyed watching the cows and livestock. Stars at night over property breathtaking. Fresh eggs for breakfast. Really nice place yall have. Host super friendly and made sure everything was good for our stay. I would recommend.
Beautiful area.It was the perfect size for a family of 5. Enjoyed walking to see mama cow and baby calf each morning. Played board games provided and enjoyed the disconnect from our daily routine. Thank you for a comfortable stay.
We were fortunate to stay here for the eclipse. Great view from the horse arena. The Utopia Gardens agricultural operation was also a big plus, with fresh eggs and vegetables. Our hosts were very gracious. Thanks!
We can’t wait to come back. When we initially booked, we thought we’d have just a nice quiet place to stay while we visited Garner State Park. It turned out to be much more. Mark and Nancy were the most gracious hosts, and such nice people. Staying at the Farhaven cottage was just what our family needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We loved being able to hike and tour the grounds. The farm fresh eggs and fresh milk were delicious. It was the perfect environment for our two young boys to run around and see a working farm for the first time. While we didn’t have phone signal, the wifi provided was enough for us to keep in touch with the outside world when needed, though we rarely used it. Enjoying nature and taking in the beautiful property was more than enough for us. If you stay here, you won’t be disappointed!
We rented the guest cottage for my bridal team and I the night before my wedding. Access was very easy, cottage was very spacious and private. Also extremely clean! Very much enjoyed our stay and highly recommend!
We reserved the Farhaven after a search for close location to Lost Maples State Reserve. Although we were early for the color foliage we had a marvelous time.
The home had everything we could possibly need except an ice maker but knowing ahead of time we stopped to pick up a bag.
I love the wonderful eclectic decor of the house. My favorite style. Lots of wonderful art. Everywhere I looked there was something new to take in as far as the art.
The owners are absolutely the warmest most accommodating host we have ever had in a VRBO/B&B environment. Loved all the farm animals, the lovely hill country vegetation, star clad nights and beautiful wildlife abound.
Be sure to bring a map just in case. This is a lovely little cottage with ample space for two. It’s easy to get in and out and host Mark is very approachable and friendly.
I enjoyed that I was such a quiet space and also that my cell phone didn’t work! Sounds odd to some but I needed to disconnect and Farhaven delivered.

In spite of the drought my husband and friend had a great time visiting, playing Mexican Train dominoes and singing while stargazing at night. The sky was beautiful with many stars but unfortunately only a few of the Perseids!!! Mark and Nancy are friendly and helpful.
We all enjoyed our stay at the cottage, it was so cozy and relaxing. We got to walk around tge property, catch fireflies at night, be around horses, and even watch the process of milking cows. The host is super friendly and helpful when needed. We will 100% be back.
This is our second time to stay here. We love the solitude and nature. This time Mark had cows and we got to watch them being milked. We also purchased a lot of produce from their farmer's market at the entrance. The asparagus, spinach and sprouts were delicious. The place is perfect for us. We like the separate bedrooms, because often one of us stays up later or gets up earlier and that way we do not disturb the other person's sleep. We will stay here again.
