Lovely house with wrap-around porch facing the river. Close to RR tracks if that bothers some, but had a good time there despite the rain (which made the porch even better).
This is a wonderful property. While rustic it is immaculately clean and has a fabulous kitchen. The entertainment area in the loft is perfect. The back porch view of the river is amazing. The hosts are responsive. I can’t wait to return
My family and I hope to return when we can stay longer and enjoy this beautiful property more! My grandsons loved the trains that came through. The screened porch is perfect for morning coffee and evening wine. Can’t say enough about it or the host! Amazing!!

I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay at Al’s place! I’m so happy your grandsons got to experience the trains! And THAT PORCH! Isn’t it a wonderful place to just relax? We hope you can come again.
Host replied promptly every time we communicated. The house is absolutely adorable and quaint. Very comfortable, full of personality. Feels like an old school river cabin, but with hot water, plumbing, and internet! There's a surprsing amount of room to sit around the table and use the kitchen bar as well. Also, two living areas, one upstairs and one down. The kitchen is super well stocked, and there are plenty of linens. The location is perfection. We would absolutely return to spend more time in the area, we were only there a short time so we went south to sandstone falls and then north to canyon rim. We will plan our next trip to the area around the availability of this house.
Property is beautiful and right on New River. House was very clean and had everything we needed. Only downside was the proximity of the train but overall a great experience!
Going to Al’s place is a yearly trip for us. Every time we go back, the Owner has made updates. Our whole family loves it. Our family of 5 love this vacation.

Kathy, I am so happy that you enjoyed your stay at Al’s Place! It is truly my little piece of Heaven and I take great joy in sharing it. We would love to have you again anytime!
This was a return visit for us to Al’s Place and once again we enjoyed every minute of it. If you like the river, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better location. We got hit with mostly rain but the screened-in porch made it possible to be outside and dry near the water. Great hosts, clean place, all you need is there. Thanks for having us!
Stayed Mon-Fri everything wonderful, the cabin, being by the river, daily excursions and seeing New River Gorge bridge and trails. Pet friendly, neighbor cats and we bought seeds to feed the birds in the big backyard. The trains are part of the atmosphere and state history.

Great WV vacation
We had a very nice time at this property. The wrap around porch was great sitting in the evening and relaxing. The river is right there and has a nice calming effect. The upstairs area was nice for reading and watching a movie. Everthing you need is available. Ellen was very quick to respond and answer all questions. Really had a nice time. Only surprise was how close the train is.
We had a wonderful time. It's so quiet and peaceful there. The train was an extra perk. It was amazing to see how long some of them were. The river was a little high due to rains but it was nice to just sit and watch the geese bob down the water. Would definitely stay there again as it's located in the perfect spot to visit the many the states beautiful sights. Thank you so much for opening your home to us!

Very quiet, except for the trains...
The cabin is nice and secluded with a big yard and a private view of the river. We enjoyed sitting by it. The cabin is pretty well apportioned but I think it could use a good going through and throwing things away that are not needed anymore. The owner was very responsive to questions via text message. I think the biggest thing to know is there is a very active CSX train line right next to the cabin. It's very quiet when no train, but far from it when there is.

Lawrence thank you so much for your review, I will definitely take your suggestions into consideration. As far as the trains go I can’t do a thing about those. Personally I never pay any attention to them but I grew up on the river and most usually where there is a river there is a train track. But I know it is not for everyone. We have a great variety of guests and they either love the trains, hate the trains or are just indifferent to them.
You were an amazing guest and took very good. Care of my little home., I hope you can come visit again.
We didn’t have any problems. Enjoyed the screened in porch so much. We had rain on and off but would have enjoyed yard games but we didn’t see any. Also during the rain times the puzzles that were provided were to difficult. Things for different age groups would help. No one can control the weather. Loved the place and would stay again.

Thank you for the suggestions! I will definitely see about getting some more puzzles and out door games!! I hate the weather was bad for you!! Maybe next time will be better!
We loved our stay in this cozy cabin for Thanksgiving! It was a great location for visiting New River Gorge National Park, and my children loved having the river in the backyard. We made a fire in the fire pit and ate hot dogs and s’mores, cooked up Thanksgiving dinner in the kitchen, and enjoyed our days hiking. We had a great time! We want to come back in the summer to have more opportunities to do things on the river. Cabin was stocked with utensils, plates, cups, etc. I always said my kids could sleep through a freight train, and it looks like I was right. When the trains passed by I was the only one who stirred. :) Thanks for a great stay!

Oh Mary, I am so glad everyone enjoyed themselves!! That place is my little slice of Heaven, my happy place! Sharing it with others is truly a blessing!! We can’t wait for you to come back in the summer! It is a wonderful place to take tubes out on the water and float!! Now that Thanksgiving is over I hope your Christmas is as wonderful for your family!
I wanted a Covid-safe place by river for leaf peeping in autumn and he wanted trains, so this cabin fit the bill. It has a bank of windows all along one wall, looking out onto the huge front porch and beyond that, to the backyard that stretches all the way to the river. The house is nestled in the valley, with a mountain rising sharply in front so the views are beautiful. About 6 to 8 freight trains come by every day, on a rail right behind the house. Pretty cool.
Easy drive, only a few miles off interstate 64.
The pictures don’t show the house to full advantage. There is an open layout with a nice kitchen, and a a large family room up the spiral staircase with a huge TV and full size bunk beds.
There is a small café serving breakfast, sandwiches and deserts nearby, but you’ll need to bring most of your own food. Definitely check out Grandview National Park nearby with mountain ridge views of the river below and nice hiking through the woods.
