About this property

Sunset Roost-the Perfect Nest for Yosemite-Private Hot Tub

Whether you are looking for a peaceful mountain getaway or trying to find lodging near Yosemite National Park, Sunset Roost is the perfect choice! The Sunset Roost offers quiet solitude in a beautiful foothill setting.

The Sunset Roost is a three bedroom, two-bath manufactured home that has been fully renovated inside and out. It is tastefully decorated throughout. Sunset Roost is designed for adults as a non-smoking property. Artwork from local artists adorns every room and spills into the Outdoor Living Room and gardens. And the sunset view is what you will always remember!

An open floor plan invites interaction throughout the living area. The large peninsula counter separates the kitchen from the dining area and provides plenty of prep space for creating meals or picnic lunches to take into Yosemite. It’s also a great place for breakfast before you head out for the day. This opens into the living room, which truly is a room with a view! A leather sofa and love seat face one another and look out over the deck towards the Merced River Canyon. The futon day-bed is the perfect place to lounge and enjoy the view (it is also a double bed).

Each of the three bedrooms has a character of its own. The master bedroom is outfitted with a king sized bed with a down comforter. There is a large bathtub and separate shower in the master bath, as well as double sinks.

The second and third bedrooms are located on the opposite end of the house adjacent to the second bathroom. Both have queen size beds with down comforters. The Wildflower Room has a tall sleigh bed and colorful photography from the surrounding foothills and high country. The Half Dome Room has a low platform bed to allow full view from its second (west facing) window. Local art depicting Yosemite’s most recognizable icon adorns the walls.

Enter the Outdoor Living Room through either of the glass doors onto the deck. Defined mostly by the 800 square foot redwood deck and hot tub, you will find yourself spending considerable quality time out here. Outdoor meals are wonderful with the evening breeze and unobstructed sunset views. The deck table seats six. Cook outside on the propane BBQ while you relax on a pair of chaise lounges.

It is a bit hard to say where the Outdoor Living Room ends and the yard begins. A lush green lawn invites you to spend your afternoon in the shade of the pines relaxing in the hammock. The gardens are filled with flowers, herbs, and native plants which keep the birds, bees and butterflies happy. Wildlife is abundant at The Roost. You may see deer, bobcat, birds, fox, turkey, peacocks, squirrels, raccoons, and bats.

The Sunset Roost offers all the comforts of home. Whether your idea of vacationing involves cooking gourmet meals or take-n-bake pizza, the full amenity kitchen has everything you will need. The home theater system includes a high quality Onkyo Dolby Digital surround sound receiver, DVD player and UHD TV. Wireless DSL is provided. Of course there are plenty of pillows and blankets to keep you comfortable. The washer and dryer are available if you’re on an extended holiday.

The Sunset Roost is conveniently located in the community of Midpines, California along the Highway 140 corridor. It is a 25-mile drive to the Yosemite National Park boundary along the “all weather highway” which follows the Wild and Scenic Merced River (it is 37 miles to Yosemite Village from the Roost). The gold rush town of Mariposa is 10 miles to the West. Merced is 45 miles, and the Fresno airport is a 90-minute drive. The Merced River Recreation Area (Briceburg) is less than 7 miles away.

There is plenty to do in the area. Most visitors will go into Yosemite, but some, who seek solitude, will be quite satisfied to avoid the crowds. The historic town of Mariposa offers shops, restaurants, groceries, gas and supplies. Outdoor recreation abounds! Whitewater Rafting and kayaking are excellent in the spring. Birding, hiking, fishing, swimming, sunbathing, mountain biking, and gold panning are popular along the Merced River and in The Park. Yosemite is a Mecca for rock climbers from around the world! There is something for everyone to do while staying at the Sunset Roost, even if you never leave the property.

We, the owners of the Sunset Roost, have lived here since 2000 and have explored much of the region. We are available to answer questions about our area.

Very special

This place is a couple of nodges better than a typical rental. You can see and feel the love and attention to detail that went into the design and execution of this home. A beautiful kitchen, lovely hot tub and outdoor shower and comfy beds. Located in a quiet natural environment with a beautiful sunset view and close to Yosemite NP. We loved the radting with Zephyr just a few minutes away.

Hidden gem outside Yosemite Valley

Sunset Roost is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco and the crowds of Yosemite. Tucked away it offers you privacy and relaxation with gorgeous sunset views each evening. The Roost is only a hours drive away from Yosemite valley making it an ideal location, compared to the motels, hotels and camping sites closer to the valley, they simply can’t compete against this holiday home. We simply loved our stay here and wish we could have stayed here longer, we would recommend this house to anyone wishing to visit Yosemite..

Absolutely Perfect!

My family and I stayed here for 3 days as a base to explore Yosemite National Park and celebrate my partners birthday! We couldn’t have been happier! The house is beautiful, well equipped with everything and more you could need. It’s location between towns and the park is great for exploring. We made it down to Bass Lake, Oakhurst and the park in our short time! We celebrated my partners birthday in style, watching the sun set in the hot tub! Our little one slept in the pack and play that Tracy provided and it was set up on our arrival that meant we could put our little one to bed as soon as we arrived. Which, after a long day of travelling was such an amazing touch that we really appreciated. We loved it here and it will long be in our memories as an incredible first holiday and celebration together! Thank you!

A beautiful lodge in beautiful surroundings

The location of this property really makes you feel at one with nature while also experiencing luxury accommodation Communication with Tracy and David was excellent although we only needed to contact them to say we had arrived and when we left However Tracy contacted us to to see if everything was ok on the first day and assured us she was available to answer any questions we may have had which was reassuring The lodge was beautifully clean and had additional extras to enjoy such as a hot tub and hammock which was very welcome after a day in Yosemite The bedrooms were of good standard and everyone in our group had very restful nights The kitchen, dining and room area were spacious and open plan so whoever cooked didn’t miss out on conversation Would definitely recommend the beautiful lodge

Perfect getaway

First impression on arrival was ‘wow’. The views were amazing and the house was perfect in terms of space and facilities. Everything you could want was there. Being away from the main roads there was little noise other than some animals. It was the perfect place to base ourselves for the journey to Yosemite and to unwind at the end of the day. Prior to our arrival Tracy and David were very helpful with all communication and advice especially as we are from the UK and that ensured the best possible experience for us We have used VRBO regularly for over 12 years and this is probably the best home we have stayed in. Thank you Tracy and David for such an amazing property Ian and Viv

Midpines Adventure

2nd time we have rented this property and we were really looking forward to our stay. Unfortunately though there was a major power outage during our stay which meant we couldn’t make full use of the facilities. Tracy did provide us with emergency lights and power blocks to charge our phones. Because of the outage there were no lights so stars at night were really spectacular.

A fantastic place to relax after exploring the nearby delights of Yosemite.

A beautiful house which is furnished to an enormously high level plus multitudes of little details that complete it. I can think of no better place to relax after a day of exertion in Yosemite. Indoors is fitted with every detail and comfort. Outdoors is beautiful with a veranda to watch the sun go down before sinking into the hot tub. A fabulous outdoor shower ( plus 2 indoor alternatives) gets your day off to a great start. The owners are on hand with invaluable advise for first time visitors like us but keep a discrete distance to maintain your privacy. I can’t rate this place high enough!!

A little piece of heaven - look no further for the perfect place to stay!

From the moment we arrived at Sunset Roost we knew we had struck gold. It is a sublime place in the most beautiful setting. The house itself is beautifully furnished and brilliantly equipped. We wondered if we would regret being a 45 minute drive away from nearest gate into Yosemite, but in actual fact it was the best decision as Sunset Roost gave us a wonderful retreat, away from the August crowds in the park. Tracy and David were such helpful hosts and it was a bonus to meet you both on the morning we checked out - you are inspirational and we sincerely hope to repeat our visit to your beautiful home, only next time for at least a week!

Amazing outdoor space situated perfectly to visit

The house is comfortable, well equipped and a good standard. What really makes this property special is the outdoor space, hot tub, outdoor shower, large patio area, table, chairs, sun loungers and a great bbq. It was perfect in the evening after long hot days exploring Yosemite.

The Sunset Roost - Absolute Best VRBO ever!

We absolutely loved staying at the Sunset Roost. The home was very clean and comfortable and had everything you needed to cook , play games or read a book. There is a very nice view of the mountains and we enjoyed the pretty sunsets. It was so peaceful and quiet and there was plenty of grounds to explore and sitting places the owners created either out of wood or there were chairs to sit in. We were able to enjoy Yosemite knowing we had a nice place to come back to. The owners were great and gave recommendations on places to eat and shopping which is in the town of Mariposa. We would definitely stay here again.

short getaway and visit to Yosemite

In this rural mountain setting (yet not far from Mariposa), we relaxed as we watched the sunset and soaked in the hot tub. Yosemite is a relatively easy drive from here--and we had time to explore the Park and then relax at Sunset Roost. The home is very well equipped. We will go back!

A well needed break

This has been one of the best properties I have been in; it is super quiet, beautiful, and spacious. The house has almost everything you can think of you will need even super fast internet. Really quiet and peaceful. The beds are really comfortable. I am sure to come back to get a break from city life and disconnect myself.

Best Rental near the Park

I cant express enough how much we loved our stay at the Roost. Tracey and David did a fantastic job at making this a perfect Mountain retreat! we spend all day at the park and then got to come back to this house with amazing views and great amenities. The drive into Yosemite Valley is about an hour. but honestly, as we were driving i feel like its probably the CLOSEST Rental home to the park. everything else is a resort or hotel. When we come back to Yosemite with our family, we will 100% be staying at the Roost again. if your looking for something comfy and relaxing after a long day at the park. look no further! this place is it! Great work Tracey and David!

Perfect Yosemite Respite

Sunset Roost is indeed the perfect place to stay while exploring Yosemite. The house is incredibly well appointed. The bedrooms are lovely and comfortable. The layout perfect for family gatherings. Open, spacious, comfortable and accessible. Their kitchen is literally the best stocked VRBO kitchen EVER. We cooked every night and were not want for anything. And then there is the deck, the gardens, the view and the hot tub. We spent hours on the deck overlooking the view(mountains) and never missed a sunset. The hot tub was the icing on the cake. Cannot recommend this place more and cannot wait to return.

Relaxing home base for Yosemite

Our family had a wonderful stay at this property. We spent our days in Yosemite (the drive to the park is beautiful )and were excited each day to come back to the house for a relaxing evening. The hosts provide everything you need in the kitchen and bath. It was very clean and the attention to detail was appreciated. Great communication with the owners. The grounds and back porch was amazing!
