Our go-to place when visiting St Thomas.

Close to restaurants, beaches and the view can't be beat. The property is well maintained. The owners are super friendly and helpful. Ferry dock is only a short 5 minute drive. This is our go-to place to stay when visiting St. Thomas.

Birthday Vacation

This little apartment was wonderful. Stocked well, very clean, air-conditioned, everything worked. It was my birthday and the hosts left some very nice birthday notes and a bottle of champagne. The location was great, close to a lot of restaurants and the ferry to St John, and the boats going to the BVIs. Communication with the hosts was perfect. We will be booking again for next year.

Awesome Views. Great Location. Friendly Owners.

This is a wonderful location with the best views of the ocean you will find. Affordable, very clean, great landscaping. Well supplied kitchen. Friendly owners that are very helpful. We have stayed in many locations on St. Thomas and this ranks right at the top. You can not go wrong when staying at this rental. Great Value

Neat as a pin, beautiful view, quaint, well provisioned with everything you need for your stay, responsive host, ferry and beaches nearby, small bathroom but vanity in the bedroom works well, wonderful deck overlooking Secret Harbor, 4 minutes from groceries. This is for independent travelers who like authentic experience! You will have an occasional ant or mosquito because of the open air nature and grounds surrounded by trees but this didn’t bother us a bit!

Wonderful!

The Larimar was absolutely beautiful. We were just blown away by the view of the ocean and spent many mornings just sitting on the porch taking in the view. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed from clean towels, dishes, stove, grill, a/c you name it. It was great to be able to use the snorkel gear, especially just a couple minutes down the road at Secret Bay Harbor. Joanie and Robert were just lovely people who were eager to help in any way they could. We would definitely stay here again!!!

We stayed in the Larimar condo and our friends were in Sea Glass - there are not enough words to express our stay in St Thomas and at Stonehouse. It was AMAZING! Relaxing fun stay

We really enjoyed our stay. The apartment was beautiful and had everything we needed for our stay. We especially enjoyed the balcony and the great view. The garden path to our apartment was beautiful and flowers were blooming. The owners Joan and Robert were very nice and made sure we had everything we needed. Secret Harbor, walking distance, had excellent snorkeling and fun excursions you could sign up for. We also enjoyed an Eco Tour with kayaking and snorkeling. Dyami was an outstanding tour guide. We found having a car rental very useful for getting groceries and dining out in Red Hook. We would rent here again in a heartbeat. We loved it!

Wonderfully private, fully furnished, great views - Great Stay at Larimar!

The Larimar was the perfect location for our 5 day stay in St. Thomas. The apartment had everything we needed along with incredible views of Secret Harbor and the Caribbean. Having beach towels, cooler, and beach chairs available made our trips to the beach easy and saved us money on beach chair rentals. Stonehouse is convenient to Red Hook, the ferry and many of the great beaches of St. Thomas. Joanie and Robert were wonderful hosts and provided all the information and accommodations we needed to navigate and enjoy St. Thomas. Providing the US Customs forms in advance was a big time saver at the airport! We highly recommend Larimar and look forward to staying here on our next visit to St. Thomas.

Best vacation!

My husband and I spent our honeymoon here and had an amazing time! Friends of ours stayed in a condo here the week before us and they loved it also. Joan greeted us when we arrived making sure we had everything we needed. We didn't have to contact the owners during our stay, but I know If we did they would have been very accommodating to anything we needed. We were able to use the snorkeling equipment which was awesome and we used it almost everyday traveling to all the different beaches. The location was perfect. Secret Harbor which is down the street was perfect for snorkeling and for happy hour at Sunset Grille. The drinks and appetizers there are amazing! Can't wait to go back for a future anniversary! Thank you Joan and Robert!

This was my second stay at Stonehouse. Last year my wife and I took Sunflower which is the studio with a fantastic deck with a hammock! This year we took Larimar. A perfect one bedroom. The view from this place is unbelievable. A 180 degree view of Nazareth Bay and the Caribbean Ocean. Some days you can see St. Croix in the horizon. The host of this excellent rental are Joanie and Robert. I now feel as I have found the perfect place for my St. Tom visits. I have been visiting the USVI's regularly since '92 and have stayed many places. This is where I will be staying when I visit.

Scenic retreat

We had a wonderful stay at Stonehouse in the Larimar unit. This accommodation has a fantastic view and is just a short walk to the beach at Secret Harbour where the water is calm and full of fish. Our one bedroom unit was clean, comfortable and incredibly well stocked with kitchen utensils and tons of linen. Joanie and Robert are excellent hosts, always nearby and responsive to any inquiries. We really appreciated Joanie's offer to take us to a nearby grocery store to stock up on food for the week. Stonehouse is a short cab ride to Red Hook which has fun restaurants and night life. We caught the ferry to St. John where we hiked and had a swim at Honeymoon Beach which was lovely! Cabs from Stonehouse were easily accessible and reasonable- the best company we found was Kelly Taxi as they are stationed nearby at the Ritz Carelton. This is a relaxing, welcoming accommodation and we would definitely return.

Awesome

We stayed right before Christmas and it was wonderful. Joan greeted us as soon as we arrived and gave a tour. The views are even better in person and the apartment is great. We had breakfast and drinks on the balcony daily. The unit is very comfortable and the kitchen has all the necessities. It was quiet and very private at the unit. The location is very convenient to Red Hook for restaurants and bars. It was a five minute drive. We also enjoyed Secret Harbor and using the beach chairs and cooler provided. We walked several times down to Secret Harbor for food and drinks as the walk back up the hill is steep but very doable. We decided to drive and park with the beach gear as that that would have been quite the hike back up the hill with lots of items. Overall, it was great and we would definitely stay again.

Anniversary in Paradise!

My wife and I returned to St. Thomas for the first time since our honeymoon 21 years ago. We ran across Stonehouse online and recalled that we walked in the general area decades prior and really liked the area... the peacefulness, views of the water and constant breeze on the ridge. The setting at Stonehouse was just as we recalled. It was peaceful and there was always a breeze. So constant was the breeze that we did not need AC for the duration of our stay (9 days). You can see the views from the photos; they are even more stunning in person. As described, the bathroom is small, but adequate. The main living area has glass doors that open onto a deck that allow both the breeze and the view to flood indoors. The kitchen is small but had everything we needed, including a basic spice drawer. And, our hosts told us that if there was anything we needed, to just ask. Our hosts, Joanie and Robert, were friendly and responsive throughout the process and our stay. Since they live on the property, any question we had was answered promptly. We look forward to returning, and would definitely stay at Stonehouse again!

Stunning Views

What makes this place great? The view. Unobstructed 180 degree South facing oceanfront panorama of the Caribbean with bays, peninsulas and small islands. Awesome sunsets. We saw a turtle and a spotted eagle ray from the balcony. The location. A short drive (could even walk) to Secret Harbor Beach. One of the nicest small beaches on the island with great snorkelling. Very quiet. I can’t recall hearing any traffic the whole time we were there. The Larimar unit is on the first floor so it stays relatively cool. The owner was welcoming with directions and helpful with advice on what to do. Things you should know. Be aware that this place is a very small apartment (mostly the bathroom, kitchen and living room were small while the bedroom was spacious). We had no issues with the size, but I can see others finding it too tight. Best things to do. Mermaid’s Chair Hike Relax and swim at Magens Bay Beach Bordeaux Farmers' Market Skyline Drive - Drake’s Seat, Charlotte Amalie Overlook and Mountain Top

Fabulous Stay at Stonehouse

This is our second time staying at Stonehouse. We have stayed in both Sunflower and Larimar. You will not be disappointed. Robert and Joanie deLugo are incredibly welcoming, provide information of things to do while in the islands and are very accommodating. That is one of the many things that makes staying at Stonehouse so nice, all the little things that you don't think of but the deLugo's have. Stonehouse has beach chairs, coolers, snorkel gear, binoculars to see all of the ships sailing by, books to read and many other things that I have forgotten about, but make your trip nicer and more enjoyable. Not to mention all of the standards that you would expect. That doesn't even include the balcony that looks over secret harbor and into a private cove which are surrounded by blooming trees and cactus, truly a beautiful place to stay. The views are spectacular. The location is perfect as well, you can walk down the hill to secret harbor which is a fabulous beach with two restaurants and water activities rentals. You can also drive 5 min into the town of Redhook with restaurants, bars, grocery store etc. and the ferry terminal to all the other islands. We went back and will be going back again you should as well.

Caribbean Breezes....and Hummingbirds

This was our second stay at Stonehouse. We stayed in Sunflower last year and loved it. We chose Larimar this time just to get a slightly different view of Secret Harbor. Once again, Joanie and Robert hit the ball out of the park w/ this property and their roles as hosts! We stayed for 6 nights and it was simply perfect...romantic...relaxing...rejuvenating all in one. With all the windows and doors open you just can't beat the cool tropical breeze blowing up from Secret Harbor as you enjoy breakfast on your private deck overlooking the most amazing blue water of the Caribbean! We saw deer below the deck most mornings. Hummingbirds visited the pencil tree and cactus flowers on either side of the deck morning and evening. Lizards entertained with their "push-ups" on the deck railing and even though Joanie probably doesn't want it there....a local Tabbey cat was a frequent visitor to the deck. We didn't fee it but enjoyed the company. The pictures of the room are accurate - the bathroom is kind of small but didn't bother us at all - the pebble floor in the shower was like a foot massage every morning! The Larimar is set up w/ a full kitchen and there is a well stocked grocery store a mile from the property with an amazing (and very reasonable) wine and spirits selection. Hints for a great stay include getting a reasonbly priced rental car (we went through Budget - a little pricey but we only used 1/2 tank of gas for the entire week). Get directions to Hull Bay on the north side of the island for a truly laid-back, "locals" beach. Snorkeling is average there but not crowded at all. We also enjoyed Brewer's Bay beach which is just past the airport near the University. It's a very long, sandy beach - perfect for swimming and lounging. Snorkeling is not that great but again, devoid of crowds with a "locals" feel to it. We found the best snorkeling was at Hawksnest Beach on St John. Trunk Bay is overrated and crowded! For a quick, cheap and delicious lunch we highly recommend The Dog Pound open-air bar right across from the cruise ship docks. The fish tacos with avacado/cilantro salsa are amazing! Pedro, Kelly and Stephanie run the bar and will keep you entertained! We HIGHLY recommend Stonehouse (both Larimar and Sunflower). Joanie and Robert are the ultimate hosts. Location is perfect, accomodations are comfortable, view is priceless....what else can you want? Great way to relax on St Thomas!

We had a lovely 8 nights with Joanie at Larimar. Joanie was so welcoming and made sure we were settled in and that we got provisions from the supermarket.The property is just as described and as shown in the photographs. The whole property is lovely and it is beautiful sitting out on the deck either during the day or having dinner at night.It's about a 5 minute walk to Secret Harbor or 10/15 minutes to Red Hook.The property is spotlessly clean and has everything you could possibly need for a great vacation.Thanks again Joanie

Larimar stay was perfect!

This is the place to stay if you want stunning views and quiet! It was very private. The oranges and reds from the sunrise woke me up in the morning. The view from the balcony of Secretharbor is truly stunning. The hosts are very gracious and go out of their way to make your stay there perfect. I can’t say enough good things about this special place. I WILL be back.

No worries, great views

The property is beautiful landscaped and maintained. We stayed in The Larimar Suite and it was perfect getaway for my husband and I to celebrate 25 years of marriage. The porch over looking Secret Harbor was enjoyed day and night to take in the views and relax after a day of snorkelling, hiking or kayaking. The location to Red Hook was convient to go in for meals, catch the ferry to St. John's or easily explore the beaches on St. Thomas. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Stonehouse and would HIGHLY recommend it! Thank you to our hosts for opening their beautiful home and allowing us to truly get away!

Amazing views

We have really enjoyed our short stay at Larimar. The views are breathtaking. It was so refreshing to sit outside and have breakfast while admiring the ocean views. The apartment is comfortable and has AC, Wi-Fi, kitchen basics and very nice beach chairs. Location is great, just a few minutes from groceries, restaurants and nice beaches. Joanie was very responsive, helpful and courteous.

Stay local.. Stay Stonehouse! Robert and Joanie deLugo the owners, have lived at Stonehouse since 1982 and purchased it in 1997. Robert was born on St. Thomas and met Joanie when she moved to the islands in 1981. They have been welcoming vacation travelers at Stonehouse since 2005.

Roberts family dates back many years in Virgin Islands history, his father was the first U.S. Post Master general for the Virgin Islands and the main U.S.Post Office in Charlotte Amalie, Alvaro deLugo U.S. Post Office is named after him. Joanie is originally from Canada and Cape Cod, Massachusetts and relocated to St. Thomas after college in Nova Scotia in 1981.

Robert and Joanie both have extensive professional backgrounds in the Virgin Islands tourism industry. Robert has worked in the Virgin Islands aviation business since the 1970's. First with a seaplane company Antilles Airboats, which was operated by the actress Maureen O'Hara and her aviator husband Charlie Blair, then with Pam Am Airways and also Delta Airlines as the V.I. Station Manager from 1994 until early retirement 2012.

Since relocating to the Virgin Islands Joanie has enjoyed many years crewing on charter yachts sailing around the British Virgin Islands, managing a marina and charter yacht center in Red Hook and 12 years as the local representative for Apple Vacations, an international travel company. When not working Joanie and Robert enjoy hiking in Europe and traveling to Chile, Argentina, Paris, Greece, and Cape Cod.

They welcome you to the Virgin Islands so they can share their local expertise on some of the better things to see and do in the islands. They reside on the property and will check you in when you arrive, answer any questions and help you out with anything you need during your stay.

We cater to travelers who want an authentic local experience of the island in a low-key manner off the beaten tourist track and away from the condos. Our worldwide travels staying in VRBO apartments has fine-tuned us to what to expect in a vacation rental.
We are professional and we love clean! We follow all cleaning guidelines recommended by the CDC. All touch surfaces are sanitized and disinfected prior to your arrival.

The kitchen is extremely well equipped with sharp knives, a plethora of utensils, serving plates, cookware, placemats, napkins, and spices.
You can enjoy the sea view through the 9 foot sliding glass door in front of you while you cook.
