ESKITZA Kayolar Gite

"ESKITZA" is an authentic kayolar (shepherd's hut) nestled in the Basque mountain, at an altitude of 800m, but with very easy access.
Located on the heights of the town of Arnéguy, above the last farms in the Ondarolle district, this is the first kayolar you will find along the regional road 128, on the chemin des estives, 5 minutes by car from the owners' house (Markitxenea).
Your hosts, Bernadette and Jean-Michel EGOZCUE, producers of pure sheep farm cheese (PDO Ossau-Iraty), will help you discover Basque culture.
This unusual 40 m2 gite, isolated and immersed in nature, will delight you with its breathtaking panorama of the Valcarlos valley and the Roncevaux pass. The serenity and calm of the place will not be disturbed by the Internet since there is no WiFi.
It is perfect for lovers of wild flora and fauna or hikers. You will join the way of St Jacques de Compostelle at less than 4km from the gîte. The numerous raptors; vultures, kites, buzzards and sometimes eagles from Spain will be your neighbors as will the woodpigeons during the migration season.
Some pottoks (wild horses) can also visit you and lull you to sleep with the sound of their bells.
Recently furnished with all modern comforts, it can accommodate up to 4 people and is composed of:
- a living room with large convertible sofa (sleeps 2), a flat screen TV, an open and fully equipped kitchen area: mixed hob (gas / electricity), hood, oven, micro-oven waves, fridge with freezer compartment, small appliances and common utensils. The cottage is heated by reversible air conditioning (electricity consumption included in the rental price).
- a bathroom with a large walk-in shower, a sink, a toilet and a chest of drawers.
- a storage room with washing machine (pantry)
- a bedroom for two people on a mezzanine with a 140 cm bed.
Beds have mattress covers, pillows and duvets, free bed linen.
Outside, you have on the terrace a barbecue and a wooden garden table in the private enclosed space.
Pets admitted free of charge.
Cleaning not included (cleaning service on request = 40 €)
Beds made on arrival on request = 25 €
Towels provided on request = € 16 / week / 4 pers.
Rentals are only weekly in July-August:
Arrivals on Saturday from 3.30 p.m.
Departures on Saturdays, at 10:30 am at the latest.

Silent house in the Pyrenees

Very nice and clean house up on the mountain between cows, donkeys, sheep, horses in a silent place. Outside old traditionel, inside modern with all convenience you need. Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, Biarritz, Pamplona are nice cities around, worth a visit and can be reached in 20 to 90 min

Mountain tranquility

Superb property in a beautiful location but we experienced poor misty, rainy, cloudy weather which limited our ability to take full advantage of the outdoor area. Access road up from the valley is very narrow and very twisty and is 8km from Arneguy. Great care must be taken!! A great place to go for peace and quiet with vultures, sheep, cows and pottocks for company.

Fantastic remote place

We had a wonderful week very far up the Pyrenees, right on the border with Spain. Our only neighbours were loads of cows, horses, and hundreds of sheep for making the famous Ossau Iraty cheese. They frequently paraded past our stone shepherd’s shelter. It was very wild and certainly remote - 25 minutes on a very steep and windy road to the nearest town, St Jean Pied de Port. Very well appointed house. We loved it. There is no WiFi, but we had no trouble in contacting anyone via our phones. Highly recommended.

Perfect place..... Glorious views over the hills and valleys from the isolated gîte. Gîte itself was ideal for two.... Possibly four good friends could manage but would also work fine for a couple and their children. Perfectly kitted out - modern and attractive inside the lovely old stone building. Lovely to hear little but cowbells! Maybe a car every 2 or 3 hours. If our French was better we would have understood the instructions to call into the farmhouse and the hosts would escort us up the mountain to the gîte. So our arrival was a bit confused..... But at least we got to meet Bernadette and her husband. They are lovely and very patient with our lack of French. We loved it at Gîte Ezkitza!

Hôtes très sympathiques, discrets et contents d'indiquer les lieux à voir ou restaurants à fréquenter. Leur fromage de brebis est excellent.Le gîte est très bien équipé, propre, fonctionnel.Le lieu est très calme avec une proximité de la nature inégalée. Espagne très proche et le village de St Jean Pied de Port également. De beaux paysages et une faune riche d'un point de vue ornithologique. Accueil chaleureux par Bernadette (il ne faut pas rater la ferme) qui nous emmène jusqu'au "kayolar" à 5 minutes et quelques virages..mais arrivés là haut, quel spectacle ! Vue imprenable et animaux en semi-liberté..Le gîte est d'une propreté irréprochable et plus spacieux que nous le pensions.Il ne manque rien ! Desconexión en la montaña

Si buscas desconectar unos días y reencontrarte con la naturaleza, este puede ser un buen lugar.La casa dispone de todo lo necesario para disfrutarla, incluidas unas vistas espectaculares y un aislamiento del mundo que, de vez en cuando, se agradece.Mi estancia ha sido durante el puente de diciembre y hemos tenido muy mala suerte con el tiempo: lluvia sin parar, algo de granizo y mucho viento. Íbamos preparados con juegos de mesa pero se fue la luz en la zona y tuvimos que pasar casi 20h sin electricidad. Se nos quedó sabor agridulce por este motivo, pero esperamos volver porque nos gustó la casa y el entorno.

Quelques jours rêvés dans la nature . Un emplacement de toute beauté avec pour voisins, vaches moutons, chevaux dans un silence extraordinaire seulement troublés par les cloches et le vent. Un gîte tout simplement accueillant très agréable , d’une propreté exemplaire .
