About this property
New Lakefront Log Home
This new lakefront cedar log cabin is available the rental season! Minutes away from Mount Snow and Stratton, winter activities include: skiing, ice skating and ice fishing. Also 2 miles from the center of Wilmington.
The property has 160 ft of water frontage on Spruce Lake. Fish for brook trout in this privately stocked lake. Take our 3 canoes, 2 kayaks and paddle board out on the lake for a fishing or site-seeing trip. Swim from our private beach or canoe to a shared beach at the end of the lake. Fall asleep to the sound of the brook running just outside the cabin!
This is the perfect family vacation. The lake does not allow motor boats and the lake frontage has a shallow sandy entry.
Wildlife abound!: The lake, brook and surrounding woods provide a perfect wildlife habitat.
This year we've seen: moose, black bear, deer, heron, beaver, otter, geese, ducks. The family of ducks ask to be fed at least twice a day. Moose tracks have been seen on our beach. And a pair of black bear are well known to the area (keep the trash cans lids latched!).
The brook has brook trout, frogs, turtles and crayfish. And of course the lake is loaded with perch, brook trout, rock bass, and mud puppies.
In the surrounding woods the kids will also enjoy catching salamanders, newts, and garter snakes.
Waterfront Fire Pit ! We have a burn pit on our private beach. We provide the firewood; you provide the marshmallows!
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

We had a lovely family autumn get-together here! Everyone raved about the amazing house and location. We loved the fire pit, the canoes, the wood stove, and the stars! We obviously did not ski, as it was only October.
The entire family LOVED it!The house is spacious inside and the AC was a godsend on the very humid days. Three full baths are fabulous, especially after swimming. The deck table is great. We used the boats every day.The private beach is perfect for the children and even has a shady part. Oh, and the town is lovely. We are already planning to come back next year, and will let Tim know as soon as the working adults know their vacation schedules.Thank you for wonderful stay.
We had a lovely stay with 2 families getting together for a ski weekend at Mount Snow (12 miles away). The house has plenty of space to spread out and has a nice view of the lake.
Booked this house kinda last minute for a short get away. The owner was very responsive and answered all of my questions about the property. The location was excellent and many in the group enjoyed spending time in the lake. House was well maintained and roomy for my group. Would definitely stay again.
In all of the homes I've ever rented through this service, I have NEVER thought that the pictures undersold the location--typically it is the other direction. But this home was beautiful--spacious, well-appointed and perfectly located. Communication with Tim was easy and quick. Also... there was an overnight snow that dumped about 6 inches... Tim arranged a plow to clear the driveway by 10 AM. Wonderful all around, look forward to returning!
Lovely house. Kids enjoyed canoeing, paddle boards, and ping pong. Adults enjoyed the lake view and the hummingbirds, which were super-active around the deck (and also the canoe and ping pong). The house is quiet and secluded but only a short drive to lovely restaurants, hiking trails, and motor-boating. Check-in and check-out instructions were clear and easy to follow. Thanks for a great time.
Lovely large home, plenty of space! Great location, close to town on a pretty little lake.
The driveway is shared off of a gravel road, good for taking walks.
All essentials provided for our mid-October stay.
The wood stove is cozy.
Super flexible and great communication with the host!

Wonderful any season!!!
We had such a fantastic visit over the winter that we had to come back in the summer. The ice skating was so much fun with my children. They spent the entire time outside sledding, skating, roasting marshmellows and building snow caves. When we went back in the summer, it was like a whole new vacation, between, the swimming, canoeing, and expolring in the woods. We took our bikes out for a ride into town as well. I love the house!! It feels like a luxury to be in a space that is so clean and comfortable. Having the movies and games for kids was great. Thank you for a wonderful vacation. We are going to be back for sure.

Not up to previous experiences
While there was most of the expected equipment in place, the overall impression was not great. Can only say the description of the property was optamistic. A reported problem took 2 days to get a rsponse. Problem was resolved, but lack of acknowledgement of comunication was disappointing. Finally, upon arrival wiping out the fridge was needed.
This was our 3rd summer at Spruce Lake and as in years past, it was amazing. The location is perfect - just 2 hours and 15 minutes from Boston. The lake is ideal for kids and teenagers, big enough to support all the fun stuff (canoeing, SUPing, swimming and fishing) but small enough that there are no power boats and the kids can enjoy it independently without hovering parents. The house is perfect for a larger group with plenty of bedrooms/bathrooms and common space. We lucked out with the weather with the exception of one day that was so so, and made the hour ride to Jiminy Peak to do the mountain adventure package (alpine slides, mountain coaster and other activities) which was a blast. There is plenty of hiking and other activities closer as well. We always bring our own food and cook but there are plenty of restaurants in Wilmington and the surrounding area (Beer Naked Brewery!) Maybe next year we will finally do some hiking if we can get the kids to leave the lake! One of our favorite activities is cooking on the fire pit, and we made breakfast there each day. Just a few pieces of advice to pass along...based on previous years we brought kitchen trash bags and paper towels with us which was helpful. There are no dish towels in the kitchen - an easy fix - but would suggest bringing a couple. A cast iron skillet would also be helpful as most of the pans have seen better days. Thanks Tim for a great vacation. We look forward to coming back next summer!

Not a Secluded Cabin
Since most reviews seem overwhelmingly positive, this focuses on some things that appear to have been left out. The reason there are so many pictures of the cabin from the lake is that they are not taken from the lake but from the road. The picture from the deck shows only the view to the right. To the left are several houses with a road running directly in front of them. It is a well traveled road and you can clearly see (and hear) the cars and trucks as they pass by. You can watch their reflection in the water. Needless to say, this detracts from the tranquility. There is also a very large house next door. Nothing separates you from your view of each other. Despite the proximity, (a stone's throw away) the neighbors will not wave hello or even acknowledge your presence. They will, however, watch you through binoculars from inside the house. No kidding! We took to keeping the blinds down on that side of the house.
You may have read an earlier review about feeding the ducks. Well, there is a consequence to all that feeding. The entire front of the property is completely covered in duck and goose droppings. We could not walk outside without shoes on. But I guess this would only be a problem if you were visiting in the summer. Inside, the cabin is pretty much as pictured. It is clean and well kept although I have never been to a rental where you had to make your own beds upon arrival. Kind of a drag after a long day of traveling. Although there is a basement, it is completely unusable. The cement floor was covered with dirt and the walls were covered with insulation. Construction materials were piled up in half of the space. The furniture that was there was for some reason upside down on top of each other. The access to outside was nailed shut with planks. We only had 5 in our group so not so much of a problem for us, but could be if you were with a larger group wanting to spread out. Also, the televisions are both small box sets so larger groups should not plan to watch the big game or a movie all together. The dining room table fits 6 comfortably, but the chairs at the island are not good for eating as the island hits a grown adult at chest level when seated. Again, not a deal breaker, just some things I wish I had known before renting.
Wilmington is a charming, quintessential Vermont town and Molly Stark State Park (five minutes away) is worth a visit.

Response from VrboOwner on 2 Apr 2020
Not much of this is within the control of the owner. But I will add information where it might help.
• The website map clearly shows a road on the opposite side of the lake. Most people have found our home to be tranquil and relaxing, we certainly do.
• This is the only house that is available to rent, with lake access on Spruce Lake. We do not deem it appropriate to include pictures of neighboring homes on the website. Upon speaking to the neighbors, they deny the allegations made – not sure where to go with this one. I will add that half of the summer bookings are multi-year, repeat clients.
• While I have no control over the Vermont wildlife, I can - and do – provide rakes and shovels. You just need to decide if you want to use them. That said, the geese have been a problem this year, and we are currently working on a solution with the other owners.
• Not making the beds is standard for the area. Making the beds for 12 when 5 are staying at the house would be a waste of resources (i.e. excessive laundry). Also, we cannot be left to guess which beds will be used.
• The basement is not included as usable space quoted on the website. It holds the laundry area, ping-pong table and electronic dart board. The rest of the space is storage/overflow. There is access thru a side door.
• In addition to the kitchen table (seating 6), the porch table seats 6, a “kids” table next to the kitchen table has room enough for 4, and the island seats 4.
• The 2 TVs are 21 inch and include built-in DVD and VCR players. Basic cable and assorted DVDs and VCRs are also provided (but are by no means the focal point of this experience).
Obviously we cannot please everyone all of the time. This is our family’s vacation home - not a resort.
My brother and I found the accommodations to be true to advertising, the host was available for communication, all necessary components were there for the two of us to have a warm, comfortable weekend.
We really enjoyed our week at the house. The lake is small but lovely to swim and kayak in. The teens caught lots of fish at the shore and out in the middle, which was fun for them. The house is close to town, without being right in town, which was perfect for us. We all loved the fire pit and the ping-pong table downstairs! It was low-key, fun vacation.
Great property with direct lake access. Small lake which was great for kids. A lot of wildlife especially birds, great blue herring, ground hog, frogs, fish and occasional small bear passing by. Game room a big hit with kids especially ping pong and of course occasional video game. Loved having our coffee on the deck each morning. And s’mores around the fire pit in evening was a great way to end our day. Enjoyed a few small but very good restaurants in town just minutes away for dinners out or take out enjoyed on the table on the log cabins deck. Tim the owner was great to work with. Very responsive and helpful. Place was very clean and beds very comfortable. Overall a great place to relax.
We enjoyed the lake and fire pit. The lake was lovely and swimmable. It was great to have paddle board and kayaks to use too. Only also criticisms, it would be nice to have more chairs for the dining room
We had another week of awesome memories! The weather was perfect for all the fun on the lake or just sitting on the deck. Can’t wait to come back soon!
We really enjoyed this property- had 2 families there and all had a great time. Excellent host communication and the beds were comfortable (I’m very picky!). Very short drive to the nearest grocery store and the flea market on weekends was wonderfully quaint!
Only thing that wasn’t great was the kitchen frying pans, if you plan on doing any cooking you should bring your own as the ones that are there are well past their lifespans.
