Summer Street MV - where the spirit of summer lives
Welcome to our tranquil A-frame cottage nestled in the serene beauty of Vineyard Haven, where you can enjoy destinations like The Black Dog, The Net Result, and Bunch of Grapes bookstore. Located on a quiet, pretty residential street a brief walk from downtown, vaulted ceilings greet you as you enter the living room, which is illuminated by skylights and stained glass windows rescued from a local whaling church. Perfect for artists and those seeking a peaceful retreat, our hideaway offers a serene atmosphere. Unwind amidst nature's embrace, where inspiration flows freely and creativity flourishes. Enjoy the rustic charm and quietude of our space, thoughtfully designed for relaxation and rejuvenation. Whether you're reading, writing, or simply seeking solace, our cottage provides the ideal backdrop for your escape. Discover serenity at our A-frame retreat on Martha's Vineyard.
There is a great tradition of culinary arts in this house. Built by one of the Island’s well-known chefs, our family has embraced this legacy over the last 25 years that we have lived on Martha’s Vineyard. We welcome you to expand upon this tradition during your visit. The kitchen features a 6-burner commercial stove, new refrigerator, and convection oven. We have stocked the kitchen with a French press and coffee maker, and a full selection of cooking vessels and tools so that you can cook your own breakfasts, local seafood, or whatever else catches your fancy. Consider hiring one of our recommended local chefs to cook for you one night in the house as a special treat.
The eating nook seats 4 and receives morning light with cool cross breezes in the summer. Sections of the floors throughout the house are made from old slate roof tiles, including some laid out in the shape of a fish (or the Island depending on how you look at it) on the kitchen floor.
Two bedrooms are available, including a spacious upstairs bedroom loft with a queen bed and desk to work (if you have to) and a bright bedroom downstairs with 2 twin beds. Downstairs we offer a large couch to relax in front of the television or listen to music, and the “best friends” seating area in front of the fireplace. We are excited to offer a newly built front porch, where you can sit and enjoy birdsong with your morning cup of tea, or late afternoon peace under the dappled branches of the honey locust tree.
Exit the back door to an intimate shaded patio with a table and benches, and an outdoor shower privately located around the corner in the wooded backyard. The yard is large enough to play frisbee or lounge around! Keep watch for the fireflies in the summer time. We are excited to offer you use of our “green egg” smoker/grill as well.

About the host
Hosted by Natalie Wessel Lozano

My name is Natalie and I grew up in New Jersey, followed by 10 years in NYC. When not on the Island I live in Portland, Oregon with my husband, and work for a company that specializes in bicycle and pedestrian transportation planning and engineering called Alta.
I'm an Oregon State University Master Gardener, and have a fondness for 'backyard habitats' and plants that attract pollinators. I'm also part of a volunteer project called the Oregon Bee Atlas through OSU that's working to monitor and ID local bees for preservation/research purposes. One of my projects at the Summer Street MV house is continuing to revive the garden as a meadow for native pollinators. We often get alot of monarch butterflies (and their caterpillars) on the property, so look around the yard and see what you find!
I love swimming in the ocean, trail running, and bike commute to work every day (feel free to ask me about where to run or walk on Martha's Vineyard!).

Why they chose this property
My Dad and sister and I visited Martha's Vineyard for the first time in 1993 on a camping trip in August. I was still in high school and remember every detail fondly, from the view driving along the ocean, to the fireworks in Oak Bluffs, and renting bikes and riding down to Menemsha for lobster. After seeing all of the fishermen here, my dad (a fisherman, as am I) was hooked. He came back the next year to participate in the big fishing derby and ended up buying this house on a whim a couple of years later. He lived here through his retirement and now it's the family house. We are excited to share it with you as you spark your own love for Martha's Vineyard on your visit. In particular, we are interested in generating long-term relationships with renters who return to the house year after year.
What makes this property unique
This really is a chef's house. You may notice that the outlets in the living room are at a strange height. We think the living room used to be the kitchen (the original owner did catering out of the house) and maybe the kitchen is an add-on space? We are happy to share some of our favorite cookbooks, which you'll find in the kitchen. The model of the commercial stove is the same one that Julia Child's writing partner, Simone Beck, had! I recommend sitting at the kitchen table on summer mornings with a cup of coffee before everyone else wakes up, and listening to the bird calls through the window.
