You will fall in love with our beautiful, modern mountain retreat nestled in the stunning Chalk Creek Canyon. We named the house and property Comhluadar (Gaelic word, pronounced CO-loo-dare) because it means “Company, Family; The Harmony of Being Together.” We built it to share with friends and family, and now YOU are part of that harmony! Private and secluded, this custom-built home sits on 2.5 acres of pristine mountain property, bordering national forest. Enjoy the beauty of the Chalk Cliffs, the majestic vistas of Mt. Princeton and Mt. Antero, and spectacular starry night skies. Our driveway sits one-quarter mile from the Colorado Trail, 11 miles down canyon from the ghost town of St. Elmo and minutes from the Mt Princeton Hot Springs. You'll be only 12 minutes from the friendly conveniences of Buena Vista, 18 minutes from the art walks, shopping, and dining of Salida, and 45 minutes from Monarch Mountain. No traffic!
The house sleeps 8 comfortably, has brand new appliances in a well-appointed gourmet kitchen, and plenty of indoor and outdoor living space to accommodate your family and friends. For those that like the modern conveniences of home, we provide high speed WiFi, a flat screen TV and Blueray DVD player, and a Bluetooth stereo system. A wood burning pellet stove sits in the corner of the great room and provides plenty of warmth on cold winter days. The perfect accommodations for your reunion, retreat, girls weekend, couples getaway, or family vacation.
We strive to offer superior accommodations to all our guests, therefore smoking and pets are not allowed.
And yes, that IS a disco ball hanging from the ceiling... hope you use it!
The southern facing front deck, with comfortable patio furniture, is perfect for morning coffee, or you can sit in the backyard shade to enjoy the cool mountain air. A picnic table and a gas grill, along with an outdoor fire pit make the back yard area a perfect spot for evening meals. Please note that we adhere very strictly to the posted fire bans in the area. If fires are not permitted, you will be notified prior to check in. We provide a propane fire pit to our guests when there is a ban in effect. You will forfeit your deposit if you choose to ignore the fire bans. Ignoring the fire ban puts not only yourself at risk, but also the lives of our entire canyon community.
In the winter, a 4WD/AWD vehicle is required. Our county road is plowed, and with enough notice, our driveway will be plowed as well. But a 4WD/AWD vehicle will make it regardless.
Come stay and play in the Arkansas Valley, where world class river rafting, mountain biking, 4-wheeling, mountaineering and hiking are at your front door. Welcome home!
Please note the vintage campers on site are no longer rented.

We had a wonderful stay! The home is very well kept, clean and modern with nice amenities. It's in an awesome setting with amazing views. Great place to relax with the family and enjoy plenty of outdoor activities in the area too. Would definitely book again.
This was the second time we stayed here. Our stay was wonderful, we love the property and the new deck in the back! The kitchen was well appointed, the rooms and beds are comfortable, and as advertised. Hope to stay here again!
We have stayed at this property a few times and love it every time. The home is well appointed and the surrounding area is so relaxing. Highly recommend!
This is an amazing property with breathtaking 360 views. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. It’s a very quiet and secluded property just minutes from the hot springs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can’t wait to come back!
Beautiful house set in a beautiful location. So much wildlife to watch. Nice hiking trails within walking distance. It was a wonderful time for the whole family. Lots of memories.
We loved this magical property. The views are unbelievable. Everything inside is beautiful & useful. The beds are comfy. The kitchen is fantastic. We had beautiful snow during our stay. We got to experience the many moods of the mountains. Wonderful stay! Highly suggest!
This is a wonderful house with even better views. The pictures do not do it justice. The owners took great thought in the design of the home and it shows in their pride of ownership in every detail of this home. We enjoy all of the activities that the surrounding areas have to offer, but if you never left the house…you’d still have an amazing vacation!
The pictures don’t do this beautiful home justice! The home has incredible views, it is very spacious and comfortable, it is secluded and private, and it is in an incredible location next to world class hiking and the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. Highly recommend this home for your Rocky Mountain vacation! We will be back for sure.
This house is amazing! We loved every minute. The house is beautifully designed with views in every direction, and what views! The house is new and pristine. We enjoyed the unique fireplace and our favorite experience was having breakfast on the balcony. Staying in this house was a privilege. We highly recommend taking the drive to St. Elmo. Beautiful scenery and a variety of walking trails.
Our family of 5 wanted a great location to a winter vacation. Centrally located the house is 40 minutes from Monarch Mountain area (snowmobiling, dog sledding and tubing), a little over an hour from Leadville (Tennessee Cookhouse Snowshoe to Dinner experience) and 90 minutes from the Wolf and Wildlife Center. Lots of exploring available within 10-20 minutes (St. Elmo's Ghost town, Mt Princeton Spa and Cottonwood Lake which was a frozen wonderland that we walked on and watched people ice fish). The house itself is quite lovely with all the amenities you would want. It's back off the main road, is super quiet with amazing mountain views including lots of wildlife. Enjoyed waking up to fresh fallen snow several days we were there. Highly recommend this mountain retreat. We found the book the owners created on the night before we left showing how they built this home with so much care and love. Hope to go back!

Comfortable and modern with enough room for two families.
We had a great stay here during Spring Break with 4 adults and 4 young children (ages 3,3,6,6). The house was brand new, clean, modern and comfortable. The house is very private, but close enough to Buena Vista (20 minutes) and Salida (30 minutes) for shops and restaurants. We went skiing at Monarch which is about 50 minutes away. We soaked in the hot springs with is located just a few minutes away. We had a bonfire in the outdoor fire pit, made snow angels and a snowman, had snowball fights. I went for a hike just behind the house towards the cliffs. Deer walk right up behind the house and were so cool to watch. So many great memories were made. We hope to come back to make some more.
Communication with the owner was excellent. Questions were always answered in minutes, if not seconds.

Thank you! We are so happy that you had such a great time and made so many memories! Truly the reason why we built the home...to have a place to share with friends and family. We hope you come back again!
We were so excited to return to this beautiful home. We enjoyed it just as much as the first time. What a great design! We spent most of our time on the balcony. Thank you for sharing your lovely home and mountain views.
We had such an amazing time celebrating my 40th birthday! The house was clean, comfortable and had amazing views from everywhere. We enjoyed hiking the Browns Creek waterfall, soaking in the nearby hot springs, hanging out by the fire pit and dancing under the disco ball! And the stargazing was killer! We will definitely be back.
We enjoyed a peaceful and adventurous week at this lovely home. The views are amazing from every room! The modern home is well equipped for every need. Enjoyed the backyard seating and corn hole as well as the front porch for viewing the humming birds.. So convenient to access the Colorado trail, Browns Canyon and Buena Vista restaurants and shopping. Thanks for a 5 star vacation destination, we hope to be back again soon.
You won’t find a better Colorado location or property. The views are just amazing. The location is perfect for hitting Monarch, Salida, BV, hot springs. Perfect getaway spot.
We loved our Nathrop getaway. The house is perfectly tucked away for privacy but close enough to the hot springs that we went almost every night. The house had everything we needed and the hosts we’re prompt and communicative. Would absolutely recommend and stay there again.
Our stay here was so good! It's perfectly located between Salida and Buena Vista and right next to Mt Princeton Hot Springs. The home was set up really well and furnished with nice pots and pans and all the appliances we needed, which you can't say about all STRs. Communication and access info from the property manager was great and I will definitely be trying to stay here again!

About the host
Hosted by JT and Moira Nolan
Thirty year residents of Colorado, JT and Moira Nolan always dreamed of owning property in the mountains. After camping in the Arkansas Valley and San Isabel National Forest for the past two decades, we finally realized our dream.
Why they chose this property
We want you to have relaxing and restful stay in our home, and hope you love it as much as we do. We bought the land in the spring of 2016 and immediately brought our vintage camper up here to stay. We camped through the summers, falls, and winters, watching the seasons change around us as we got a feel for the lay of the land. We began excavation in the fall of 2017. Our builder (who we highly recommend and happy to share his contact info!) took us to drywall, and we began the long and arduous task of doing all the finishing work ourselves. We placed every tile, each board of trim, and all the doors and cabinets ourselves. We spent every weekend for nine months working non-stop, and are pretty proud of the results.
