Located in Monteverde, this holiday home is in a rural area and in the mountains. The area's natural beauty can be seen at Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve and Arenal Volcano National Park. Travelling with kids? Consider Monteverde Orchid Garden, or check out an event or a game at Quebrada Grande Arena. Make sure you don't miss outdoor adventures like horse riding, ecotours and mountain biking.
Apparently there was an issue with the booking dates so they asked if we could move to the 2 bedroom cabin behind the main house and I think it was even better than the original booking would have been. It was a bit rustic but the view was phenominal, it was totally private and had everything we could have wanted. Would highly recommend booking here if you're looking for a quiet, private accomodation that is just outside of Santa Elena.

I had a hard time deciding what to rate this property. The view is outstanding and the price was great. However, one of the toilets didn't work and no attempt was made to repair it during our stay. The place has everything you need but none of it is in great condition. The pans are beat up, the couches lack cushion, and the pillows are flat. You will need a little more than standard clearance to drive down this road and definitely to get up the driveway (you could park on the road), not a truck but more than a sedan. If you are looking for a view without luxury, and the price tag that goes with it, this might be the place for you.
This is a large, rustic cabin, more than we needed as a family of 5, but nice to have the space to spread out. If you are looking for luxury, look elsewhere. But if you want a secluded spot with one of the best views on Earth, I’d highly recommend Richard’s place. I enjoyed the balcony hammock each morning with my coffee. And each morning, a flock of screeching green parrots flew by. The family also enjoyed hiking around the 8 acres. There is creek access, and a local brewery is just a short ten minute walk from here. This is a wonderful place to just “be.” If we return to Costa Rica, this will be at the top of our list of places to stay. Just a few things to consider: Richard is a character. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and communicative. Also, although the kitchen has pots, pans, dishes, and cooking implements, it lacks oil, spices, etc. Be sure to pick those up in town on the way in. Did I mention the view? You can see the Gulf of Nicoya on a clear day!
This property has amazing views, but the property is old and not very well maintained. The lights had spider webs/bugs and even a spider popped out of the couch to pay us a visit. There were also a family living in the adjacent shed that the property owners failed to mention so at night you could actually hear them talking. This made us a little nervous. Also, when we arrived the landscaper proceeded to weed eat around the property for an hour to cut the high grass (apparently there are coral snakes!). The noise was not a great way to greet us. Although it was an interesting experience, I would not stay at this house again. Some work on the house could make this place an amazing spot, but not at the moment.
Great Value, Think Neglected Cabin, Deck is Awesome,
Kitchen is well equipped, lots to explore on the property, but with rain most of the time we were there we didn't get to it. All the double beds are full size beds not queens. The host Roger was great to show us around, explain the tricky showers, and make us feel at home. We didn't use the washer/dryer but there was detergent there to use. My daughter claimed the loft as her bedroom, but a spider the size of cracker scared her away. The telescope on the deck was great. This is not luxury, but it is a great value for a large group.
This is our second time to stay here. The first was several years ago. We enjoyed our stay and it had everything we needed. The host was available to answer questions. He gave us restaurant recommendations, hiking, and other activity reservations. He offered to help book reservations for us also. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen had everything needed.
The owner was very helpful and easy to get a hold of. The cabin is roomy and there is a small deck on the upper level with amazing views. We had a wonderful stay!
We had a great time at this spacious authentic house. The kids loved the ping pong table and the hammock. The view was absolutely gorgeous . Richard was a great help with local information and there is a delicious bakery walking distance . If your looking for an authentic experience this is the place for you . For a cookie cutter , manicured lawn and gated community feel look elsewhere . For outdoor adventure, a relaxed atmosphere and helpful local guidance this is a great place.

Great place for our family! We Saw Orapendula, parrots, and other birds in abundance. The sweeping view to the Pacific was breathtaking! We were there on some windy nights, and the house felt secure. We lived playing ping pong in the upstairs area each night to wind down.
Ideal scenic Monteverde retreat in private nature preserve
My wife, her aunt and I rented this place for a few days in monteverde. It is not luxurious but has all of the essentials. The absolute best part of the house is the location. It sits on a private preserve on a private lane adjacent to Kinkajou preserve and Don Jaun coffee tours only a 3 minutes from Santa Elena. The animals and plants and view available within walking distance was enough to keep nature newcomers and veterans of monteverde occupied.
The owner was the hidden gem of the property. A bit eccentric and quirky, Richard is known by everyone. He booked our tours with discounts, he has connections to get guided tours in parks early and offered advice on where to eat, he even gave us a free guided tour of Curi cancha where he got us up close to view the bell bird and quetzal and many other birds. In addition he offered free roam of his private preserve and additional guided options. Take advantage of Richard's insight.
This is not a five star luxury space but it is safe, spacious, offers views and perks that made it a great stay for us.
