“The Cabin” is a great property, and Mary’s communication was excellent. The blizzard of 2026 resulted in the cancellation of our flight and Mary was prompt and helpful with flexible arrangements. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and the beds very comfortable. The extra tv room upstairs is great if the kids want to get away and do their own thing. I’d recommend this property to others.
Words cannot express how cozy this little cabin is! Everything was completely perfect! The host was so helpful and was always answering my questions promptly. Pictures does not do this cabin justice! If you want a quiet getaway, this is your place! Everything was so clean and it had practically everything you needed already there. I will definitely be staying again in the near future!
remote, secluded forest feel, but only a 10-15 min drive to Clemson. owners live in another home on property but large track of land. everything looked brand new with quality materials. photos are very accurate but it was even bigger/spacious with more room than appeared. we cooked a couple of meals and everything worked and all cookware was there.
We had a great stay in the cabin. It was very clean and comfortable with a very family friendly layout. The owner was easy to communicate with. Would definitely stay here again.
This place was the perfect stay for a weekend at Clemson. The space was even better than expected and had plenty of room. Only a short drive from campus, this home is highly recommended for anyone visiting for a game or any other occasion.
The Cabin was an absolutely beautiful place to get some rest and relaxation. It was clean, comfortable and close enough to necessities that we didn't want for anything. We definitely will return and recommend to others.

Larry....you are welcome anytime to our Cabin and please bring the grandkids....We are so glad they had a forest to explore, a fire pit to enjoy and lasting memories.
You are welcome back anytime!
We stayed in the Storybook Caretaker's Cabin in the Woods while dropping our daughter off for college. It's a beautiful, modern and cozy cabin that was perfect for our family. Only wished we could have stayed longer. Thank you, Mary Pfeiffer, for such a wonderful stay!

Andrew... We are blessed to be a blessing to you and your family.... So glad you enjoyed your experience at our Cabin. You are welcome anytime...
Went to the mountains for the weekend for a kids camp. This was a great little cabin on the owner's property. Cabin looked brand new. The 4 of us were very comfortable. No tvs in the bedrooms but it wasn't a problem. 1 tv in the living space upstairs and 1 in the living space downstairs. Plenty of towels and linens. Close to downtown Central and a few minutes to Clemson. Plenty to eat both places. Had a wonderful time and absolutely would recommend this cabin!
Me and a couple buddies stayed here for a Clemson football game and the experience couldn’t have been better! Very short (less than 10 minutes) and easy drive into Clemson. The home and the grounds were immaculate and had everything you could possibly need! Highly recommend this property and I hope to be back soon!

The Storybook Caretakers Cabin is wonderful!!
We have stayed here previously and will again in the future. Everything is as described in the VRBO posting and the host is very easy to work with. The cabin setting is fantastic. I wish we could come more often than we do.

Property owners couldn’t have been more helpful and professional. Every aspect of the stay was handled smoothly and quickly even though there were a few speed bumps from our end.
The cabin is new and everything works just as you would expect from a new home. The WiFi was quick (a necessity for us) but the fire pit was probably my favorite spot.

We have stayed at the Storybook Caretaker’s Cabin in previous trips to Clemson and it’s always wonderful. This trip did not disappoint.
The cabin and it’s associated property are very well maintained. Even on this trip when a storm had recently passed through the area. Communication with the host was seamless and ensured we had everything we needed.
My husband and adult children had the opportunity to spend 4 nights at the cabin. All I can say is that the cabin is beautiful and our trip was wonderful. The pictures do not do the cabin justice as from the moment you walk in, you will appreciate the details of custom and quality craftsmanship. The cabin was immaculate and provided for beyond all of our needs for our stay. This includes small details such as a stocked fridge with soda, water and milk upon arrival and a custom note to welcome us. The coziness of the home was appreciated as we enjoyed time eating as a family at the large table and slept so well in the comfortable beds. Thanks for sharing your wonderful cabin. We will definitely be back soon! God bless you!

Great place, Nice and friendly Host, but beware of hidden cost
Loved the place, perfect for what we needed. But, it says it sleeps 8 and we had 5 people but got charged an extra 300.00 for "extra guest fee"...this was on top of cleaning charges, taxes, etc. When I asked her about this extra charge she said it was normal and for the cleaning gal...but like I said, that was a separate charge that I knew up front and was fine with. I would have never rented this place if had known about the hidden charges...live and learn.

Hi Jeff....I want to understand your review....your comments thru messages were as follows: "1st, we love your place…wow
And 2nd: could you resend the email with the details of the cost?
I can’t find it for some reason…thanks so much"
I have no control over how VRBO displays or where they display the pricing details. I pretend booked the space and clicked the "Booking Details" to get the price breakdown before clicking the inquiry button....so I know ALL the prices and breakdowns are visible on the site before you book/inquire.
We do not have "hidden fees"....there is no way for me to hide them, they are all adjusted according to the number of guest selected automatically.
You are obviously new to the Short term rental booking. I have booked many myself and the ones I booked and inquired about all ask for occupancy....just like a hotel (they don't want 8 people in a room for 2).
We set our pricing at the Cabin so a couple/single can book at a lower price point and enjoy the experience. If I set the price for 8 people (wear and tear/cleaning fees, local taxes, VRBO service fees, etc)....no one would book because the price would be too much for any guests less than 8.
- It seems as though you did not click the "booking details" before you booked and stayed.....then had buyers remorse after the fact - upset enough to give your stay 2 stars.
- I did not hide anything and this review should be for VRBO and their site and not for our high quality, tranquil, peaceful, clean Cabin in the woods.
You have lived and learned as now you will look for those details before your next booking!!.....and maybe not damage the reputation with a low review of the space or the host because you didn't.
Communication problem with host concerning how many family members and guest I could have visit for the afternoon. We were not having a party, being loud, playing loud music or anything of the sort. We respect other peoples property and rules. I had asked if my family could come for a visit around 2 and told the host they were adults and would be gone by 6 to 7 pm. We did not discuss a number of people or number of cars. Apparently she forgot her discussion with me about them coming.I was embarrassed and my family was embarrassed when I was sent a message that the number of cars and people there was unacceptable. The Host later said that she and her husband felt more comfortable after coming over and meeting some of my family, but by then it was too late they all packed up and left. The Cabin and the property is beautiful and I can understand why they want to protect it. Only thing I am upset about was the host saying “please let them come , we enjoy sharing our property” but then evidently forgot she had told me it would be okay. So just make sure you communicate well with how many guest you can have before you rent here.
Perfect location for a Clemson weekend and comfy accommodations and bedding. Clean and well maintained. High end appliances, furniture, finishings and cookware. Nice fire pit.
Amazing cabin in the woods! Was immaculate, had everything we needed (and more), and owners were responsive with any questions we had. Wish we had found this spot earlier in our Clemson visits!! 12 minutes from campus. Highly recommend!

About the host
Hosted by Mary Pfeiffer
Mark and Mary have lived in the area since 1993 and enjoyed moving to an area with seasons and rolling hills. We enjoy the outdoors and relish in sharing our property with others.
Why they chose this property
We purchased this property in 2007 and built the house in 2016, completed the barn/garage in 2017 and the cabin in 2019. This property is so close to town and yet you feel like you are nestled in the mountains of North Carolina. Wildlife is abundant and the rolling forest hills with the soft breezes on the hilltop site takes your breath away.
