The 19th century Greek revival home is full of history and character, and possesses a surprisingly extensive interior. A wide center hall opens to a light filled living room with wet-bar and fireplace. French doors and two huge bay windows let the outdoors in. Another living and dining space is lined with bookshelves and has another of the home's 5 fireplaces. The large country kitchen features 2 deep farm style sinks, a 6 burner professional stove, and spacious pantry. This room opens onto an informal dining area. In the home's lower level, a 'tavern room' opens out to a historic stone well. On that level there is another full kitchen and full bath, as well as laundry room. This section opens into the guest wing with an office and 3 more bedrooms plus full bath, and a mudroom with extensive locker space.

On the property are curving stone walls, white picket fences, old growth hardwoods, stream with a wooden bridge, and perennial gardens. Outbuildings include a large playhouse, a carriage house with original stone foundation, and a barn converted to a 2 car garage. Another barn conversion features a 3 bedroom apartment with a huge great room.

Originally owned by Artie Shaw, widely regarded as “one of jazz’s finest clarinetists”, Picardy Farm and its surroundings inspired Shaw to make his most significant strides as a musician and compose tunes reflective of the landscape.

”Picardy Farm..." Shaw wrote. "Good God, the emotions those two words evoke. The place where for the first time in my life I had found a real home, a warm sense of security, and a feeling of calm and peace of mind."
That sense of pristine beauty, clarity, and peace of mind is never far away in Shaw’s recordings, and has probably never been equaled in jazz history.

Truly delightful.

We all loved Picardy Farm!!
Lovely property in Hudson Valley, NY. The cleaniness and beauty of the property are awe-inspiring. Christine and Rodney were friendly, responsive and helpful and they were the best property managers we have ever met. Besides, all the people we met at Pine Plains were very friendly and happy to share all the information we can enjoy time at Pine Plains. Great location for any activities around the area and we spent the first Sunday at The Horse Insitutue for kids' activities. We regulary visited Pecks Market for fresh milk, Black Sheep Hill to buy some meat for barbecue party, and local farm to buy fresh turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. Everthing is perfect and nothing to complain. I miss Picardy farm and I'd love to come back with my family and friends. Thanks a million!
