• Some of our favorites: White Sands Beach, King Kamehameha hotel beach, Kahalulu Beach, Banyan Beach, and Alii Cove.
• Our condo is nearby downtown Kona where you can find most of the major stores, small local shops, and oceanside restaurants and bars.
• Some of our favorites: Hugos on the Rocks, ABC convenience stores, Donkey Balls chocolate, and Kava Coffee.
• The Alii Garden Market Place is a short walk from Casa de Emdeko, where you can find vegetables and fruits, crafts, and clothes.
• The volcano and waterfalls are found along the Hilo coastline, just a couple hours drive from beautiful Kona.

Gorgeous view- cockroaches expected but not bugs that bite when no in bed

Bugs biting at night left blood stains each night even when we changed sheets. Back and neck/shoulder area. Have photos

Julie never communicated a problem with bugs, she unit is sprayed regularly and could have been resprayed if she let me know! I will have the manager respray immediately!

Host was very responsive. Bed was comfortable and AC great. Location of unit provided a mix of ocean snd landscape views. Overall a comfortable stay. A very short walk to the sea wall to enjoy the crashing waves.

Construction, Communication and assistance nightmare

The booking process was OK, but a few things quite weren’t. The apartment has a fairly small bedroom but is advertised as “sleeps 4” - apparently that’s pertaining to two mattresses in the closet to be put up in the living room. Would not have mattered that much by itself but the main pool (major feature of it all) was under construction a few days after we got there. But still that would have been bearable. What really took the cake was that they shut off the power the whole last day of our stay (and the water until 12 noon). But the worst of it was that they apparently meant to speed the power issue up by working on the electrical distribution boxes all night - and those were located about 15 ft away from our room, so we had construction din (hammering, clanking, sawing), loud chatter and music for free the whole night before embarking on a long haul trip back. Manager said the owner was advised not to take any bookings for that day, owner said he’d be lying.... Great! Communication with the owner was very difficult and the cleaner she promised who would come at 4 the next day showed up at 1 pm. Did text her many times about the probs but she apparently shunned the argument. VRBO was jut much help either, unfortunately, as they first said this would warrant a refund if I sent all the footage (pics, audio and video clips) in but then I never heard back from them. One email even said their “mailbox was full”.... In summary, the place is nice, really good location, albeit a little far from the beach. We would go there again but definitely not with “Dr. Beth” and will seriously think twice before booking with VRBO again. Many thanks,.

Unfortunately, this rental situation was extremely negative for us. We did our best to notify the renter that there would be construction during the stay weeks before the stay, giving them plenty of time to cancel or make other plans. There was also notices posted around the complex for weeks warning of the construction during the first part of their stay. When they called us to complain, we went out of our way to accommodate them by offering them a free late check out and discussed the fact that we had clearly let them know about the construction prior to their stay. Despite the communication on our part, they screamed at the on site manager so badly that we received a warning from the homeowners association for their behavior. We had to have an internal meeting about it and apologized profusely while we were forced to show proof that we had properly notified them of the construction in advance of their stay. Please, if you are considering renting to them in the future, reconsider.
