About this property
Family house near Elie, golf, beaches, sea view, great base for the East Neuk
Large family house available with stunning sea and hill views, perfect for families and friends, plenty of space for 7 or 8. This lovely family home is much bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside! There is plenty of space over 3 floors to spread yourself out, as well as a sunny garden. The name Steamdrifter comes from the kind of steam powered fishing boats once built in the village and used by the locals for fishing around the coast of Scotland. St Monans is still very proud of its boat building and fishing heritage. The ground floor has an open plan living room with wood burning stove, smart TV, kitchen with huge island with bar stools and a solid oak floor. This leads through to a huge conservatory which contains the dining table, as well as a sofa and comfy chairs for relaxing and enjoying the view over the garden. There's garden furniture and a barbecue set for al fresco dining. On the first floor is the master bedroom, a very large room with views over the harbour and the village, with an ensuite shower and toilet. Next door is a sweet twin room overlooking the back garden, beside the family bathroom. Up the next staircase are 2 more bedrooms, a single room with great sea views, and a lovely double room looking over the hills and farmland to the north. There is also another sitting room facing south, with an open fire, and the best views of all, uninterrupted views over the Firth of Forth to the Bass rock, Berwick Law and the coast of East Lothian. Watch the ships going up and down, keep an eye out for dolphins! The wifi signal is excellent on every floor, perfect for keeping in touch with family on Zoom or if you have a bit of work to do on Teams. Rental includes basket of logs for wood-burning stove, coal for open fire on top floor, fresh eggs from our own hens when available. All towels and linen provided. Large shed at the bottom of the garden is perfect for cycles or canoes. There is a grocery shop in the village and local supermarkets are well stocked and uncrowded. There are plenty of cafes and takeaways in the area if you don't want to cook. This pretty village is a great base for exploring the East Neuk, with the beaches of Elie for swimming, sea-kayaking, sailing and canoeing, golf courses at Elie and Charleton, and of course St Andrews only 12 miles away. There are quirky shops, fine dining, historic sights and countryside walks all within a few minutes drive. Trips to the Highlands, Perthshire or Edinburgh are all easy from here. The village is about an hours drive from Edinburgh airport. The East Pier Smokehouse and the Giddy Gannet provide good food all day while award-winning Craig Millar's seafood restaurant is there for fine dining. Pittenweem has galleries and cafes including the outstanding Cocoa Tree, with fabulous hot chocolate, and the best fish and chip shop in the area. The Cheese Farm is just along the road, for more than cheese, great lunches too. Ardross Farm shop can supply every need and Barnett's artisan breads are justly famous - feta and beetroot is one of my favourites. Kellie Castle with its wonderful garden is well worth a visit. Genteel Crail along the coast tempts with teashops and souvenirs. There's fresh and smoked fish from St Monans, and Balgove Farm Shop on the edge of St Andrews. The house will be sanitized for each new set of guests and check-in is via a key in the key safe so no need to meet anyone unless you want to. EPC=D

Place was lovely with great views across the harbour from the upstairs living room. Car parking for two cars on the front is a bonus. Bedrooms were clean and today and plenty of towels provided. Kitchen was clean and plenty of equipment for cooking. Living area was clean and tidy with a log burner. Host was great allowing us some flexibility on dates. Highly recommended
Great place as our home base for a golf/sightseeing vacation. Fantastic accomodations and a very communicative host makes this an easy recommendation to future guests.
A lovely, well equipped property with lots of space to relax and nice comfortable beds. It has off street parking and great views over the harbour. We really enjoyed our stay.
We had a wonderful time staying in this large, cosy, homely house as a family. There was plenty of room for everyone with great facilities. The house was warm and easy to find. St Monans itself was the perfect harbour village. We enjoyed the local cafe and walks along the coastal path. It was a perfect and relaxing break
Loved the house, very spacious, clean and well equipped with great views of the harbour at St. Monans. Only a short walk down to the harbour and we found it very peaceful.
This is a beautiful house in a lovely little seaside village. We've stayed before and weren't disappointed on our return visit. It's warm, comfortable, spacious and perfect for a family celebration. The small sitting room on the top floor has spectacular views.
Lovely house, very well appointed. Easy to get to and great access to harbour and coastal path. Good location for trips to fishing villages, beaches and St Andrews. Would visit again!
We had a great stay at this property. Beds were very comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need. Small touches like the buckets and spades and fishing nets were a huge bonus for the kids. Lovely sea views.
We had a lovely time in Maia’s house. It’s very spacious, nicely decorated and very clean.
St Monan’s pitoresque harbour is only a minute by foot, we had the best dinner in a very long time at the East Pier Smoke House. Highly recommended!

Loved the property. Lots of space. We loved looking out of the windows as the views were amazing. The house felt welcoming and we could relax. We would love to go back again.
Seven middle-aged ladies enjoyed 4 days walking sections of the Fife Coastal Path, as well as trying out some of the tidal bathing pools nearby. The location of the house was perfect, as was the ample space in the downstairs living areas. We did get our 3 cars parked out front, although the street is a bit tight. The area is very quiet and we enjoyed the sunny garden.

The house is a great spot for a big family gathering with lots of space for socialising! Huge conservatory out into a lovely garden as well as two living rooms with lovely sea views. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the three bathrooms/toilets was useful. Lots of baby equipment too which was very helpful!
