Could be so much better
Chinon is a lovely small town and the apartment is in a prime location, close to the town centre and many restaurants. The apartment is of historical significance and has been tastefully refurbished, adding modern conveniences while retaining the exposed wooden beams and with generous sized rooms. So why does it not get a 5 star rating?
Firstly, it suffers from a major lack of attention to detail, much of which has been mentioned in other reviews. The raindrop showers spray horizontally rather than vertically (thanks to an earlier review we knew to rub the shower head to unblock the holes, but surely this should be a part of the cleaning regime). The bath towels are so thin you could be excused for thinking they are the same vintage as the house, curtains are thin and falling apart from the sunlight, one toilet had scum marks at the water line and spider webs behind the toilet. There are no block out curtains in the front bedroom and the central heating radiator does not work in that room. I could go on, but you get the idea.
Secondly, communication was very confused. The host was listed as Frederic but his approach was to ignore the first couple of messages and then reply saying we should contact the owner (which would be good if we had contact details but they were not forthcoming even though we asked twice). Eventually Frederic blocked my number, a good approach from a host!! Someone from LouLoue did help to resolve some issues, but I did not learn where they fitted in.
