This first floor apartment is one of two apartments in this elegant late 19th century house, La Maison Anglaise. Finished to a high specification in a contemporary style, this spacious apartment has two bedrooms, two bathrooms (one ensuite )and a lounge kitchen diner and views over the surrounding countryside. The owners have recently renovated the property and have gone to a lot of lengths to create a beautiful comfortable fully equipped apartment with a wow factor. The property boasts an outside pool which is shared by both apartments. It has a south facing terrace and stands within 50 paces from the centre of the beautiful historic 13th century bastide of Monpazier. Climb out of the pool and dry off, and within minutes you can be dining in the main square. The town listed as one of the "Plus beaux villages de France" has an abundance of shops and restaurants. The property is ideally located for visitors seeking a base for touring the Dordogne and Lot region. Monpazier is thirty minutes by car from Bergerac airport and two hours from Bordeaux. The apartment offers real comfort with sofas, large luxury Hypnos beds( a superking in the second bedroom which can be converted to twins), walk in showers and a Juliette balcony off the master bedroom which catches the late afternoon sun.The kitchen has been fully equiped to enable you to shop for delicious food, cook and live like the locals. The nearby main cobbled square is home to a weekly market and an auditorium for plays, musical recitals and live concerts. The surrounding old medieval buildings are squeezed in side by side, their upper floors bathed in sunshine, below the doorways of the shops and restaurants hide under the shaded arcaded walkways. Relax with a glass of wine or a coffee in the plaza and enjoy this quintessential french experience.
The region is home to the delicious Bergerac wines and the famous Monbazillac sweet wine made from grapes affected by the noble rot. There are dozens of vineyards east of the airport with very reasonably priced nice appellations and the vignobles are only too happy to offer you a "degustation", a generous taste of their wine.
The area surrounding the Dordogne river is dotted with stunning chateaux and pretty villages, bustling markets and great restaurants. Tour along the river in a canoe or for the less intrepid a Gabarre boat. There is so much to see within an hours drive of the house. In high season the surrounding villages host evening soirees where you can turn up with your own wine, plates and cutlery and then take your pick from an array of food served up by the market vendors. Dance the night away to live music.

About the host
Hosted by Amanda and Derek Avery
My name is Amanda, I have been married to Derek for 40years. Our principal home is in rural Hertfordshire where I work as a chartered physiotherapist and Derek as a painter and decorator. Our lives revolve around work, keeping fit, our wonderful family who live close by and our friends with whom we enjoy great food and laughter and our huge love of France.
Why they chose this property
We have previously owned a house for 10 years in the french Pyrenees where we spent many holidays with family and friends. On route to our annual holiday one year, we called in on friends who had recently moved to Monpazier in the Dordogne. Seeing the village for the first time was love at first site and became the focus of our dreams to live there. Our vision was to find a house in a central location with a pool which had the wow factor. A tall order but walking into this beautiful house with its three meter high ceilings we knew this was the right one for us. A tidy but very antiquated property with wall coverings which took all the light, it was crying out for a makeover. Full credit goes to my husband Derek who has project managed a team of workers since April 2014 to transform this house into three stunning apartments. We wanted our visitors to walk in and feel the wow factor and so far every one has delighted us with their compliments when they walk in.
What makes this property unique
It has the advantage of being very comfortable and spacious and therefore somewhere to stay for an extended period if desired. It has been equipped to allow you to cook up a feast, invite friends in to dine with you. With the apartment below sleeping a further two guests, it is perfect to stay with a group of friends. The house is in the centre of a beautiful historic medieval town with an abundance of restaurants and shops where you can buy food locally. With the addition of the pool it is a perfect place for a get away weekend. Derek and Amanda are resident on the top floor of the house for most of the rental period and are on hand to give you local knowledge and any further information. With regard to getting around, Monpazier is a busy village with everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. However, this is rural France and there is no local public transport. A car is essential to explore the surrounding area. Other things to note, the house occupies a central street location and although tranquil most of the time, guests may be subjected to the hustle and bustle of a busy village as it springs into life during the day. We are close to the main square and you may hear any musical events taking place there. There is no dedicated parking outside the house although there is plenty of space roadside nearby. We have tried where possible to retain original features including wooden flooring so from time to time you may hear movement on the floors overhead. There is a second apartment on the ground floor, the top floor is occupied by your hosts. Amanda speaks french but Derek's french is limited but he can communicate with hand gestures and google translate.
