Characterful Georgian Cottage On Harbour Front With Wonderful Sea Views

Characterful old cottage, comfortably furnished and modernised but retaining its charm and character. Its situation is one of the best in the village on the harbour front looking out to sea. 2 sitting rooms and separate dinning kitchen.The front sitting room (see picture) has wonderful views through a picture window of the harbour and open sea. Staithes is a historic fishing village in the North York Moors National Park, the haunt of painters and photographers. There are many original oil paintings in the cottage painted by the mother of the current owner.
The cottage was half of the original "Shoulder of Mutton" public house. The village was full of smugglers passages.
Accommodation
• Large well equipped kitchen. Fridge with freezer compartment. Electric cooker, toaster, microwave and dishwasher. Hearth with traditional range and electric fire. Beamed ceiling, quarry tiled floor.
• Sitting room 1: Pine panelled walls, oak floor, beamed ceiling, Victorian fireplace with coal effect fire, flat screen smart TV, and DVD. Sea view.
• Sitting room 2: "The Cabin” with large picture window overlooking harbour and open sea. Books and games. Oak floor.
• Bedroom 1: comfortable king size Hypnos bed, sea view.
• Bedroom 2: comfortable double bed, partial sea view
• Bedroom 3: single bed.
• Bathroom: electric shower over bath, toilet, dual voltage shaver socket and shaving mirror, heated towel rail.
• Heating downstairs: 3 electric storage heaters, 2 convector heaters, and 1 coal effect fire. Upstairs: 1 storage heater, 2 wall mounted convector heaters.
• Private front terrace overlooking the sea: chairs available.
• Features: Unimpeded sea views from most windows.
• Heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included in rental.

Hilary is a retired social worker whose parents bought the cottage in 1954. Her mother was a painter and loved the village. Hilary and her husband Chris took over the cottage in 1980 and have totally renovated it.

Why they chose this property

The village is full of history. It is visually a very beautiful village nestling in the natural harbour made by the Cowbar and the Staithes Beck. The property is spacious and although modernised, retains many of the old features. With its harbourfront position It has some of the best views out to sea in the village.
