The reservation and check in process was very smooth. The home had everything we needed to be comfortable. A home away from home. We would stay here again.
The property was exactly as in the pictures. The property was VERY CLEAN when we arrived and we felt welcomed as soon as we walked through the front door. The property manager made our visit very enjoyable by providing all needed kitchen and household items. The bedroom set up with seperate bathrooms attached to each of them allowed privacy for each bedroom. Also the access to the fruit trees in the back yard was an added and wonderful addition. We would stay here again and highly recommend everyone consider staying at this property whan visiting Hilo.

Thank you for the kind words and glad your family enjoyed your stay. We look forward the pleasure of hosting your family again if you visit Big Island in the future.
One of the rooms has bed bugs. It is the bedroom right next to the kitchen on the south side of the house.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention! We have since scheduled pest control services to immediately treat the problem. The service company ensured this will be on their punch list during each regular maintenance schedule. Mahalo!
It was a good property. Especially for the price! We dealt with Amy the most since her husband was not feeling well. Amy was very involved and always made sure we were okay. If we had questions, her response time was wonderful. The downside was that there was no hot water for the time we were there but Amy was wonderful in helping us out with that. My family was rather big so we definitely made use of all the rooms and bathrooms. The place was clean overall and it was in a good place. The Coqui frogs can be a little loud, especially if you're not used to it but it was fine. Overall, we would definitely stay here again!

Thank you for the kind words and especially being so understanding while we were trying to solve the water heater problem during your stay. We have since replaced a bland new water heater unit and it is working properly now. We look forward the opportunity to host your family again in the future. Mahalo!
Came with friends to celebrate a friends 50th birthday. Jim and Amy were very welcoming, they made themselves available by text if anything was needed and responded promptly but otherwise left us to ourselves to enjoy the property and each other. They have a sweet little orchard where we were welcome to pick and enjoy starfruits. Kind family, lovely stay (:
We were a group of 10 (3 adults and 7 kids ages 7-13) and were very comfortable. The house is the cleanest VRBO we have ever rented. Jim provided dish soap, trash bags, paper towels, etc. and the kitchen was well stocked with all the pans and dishes we needed to enjoy our stay. Our kids loved that each bedroom is like its only little suite with its own bathroom, TV, and mini fridge. The house also has many windows which allowed us to let in the night air and stay plenty cool. The neighborhood was a good location for us to access Volcanoes National Parks and other east and south side attractions. We especially enjoyed walking l along the beach and exploring the tide pools that are at the end of the road.
This place was worth the price. Each room had their own appliances, bathroom, and privacy door lock. The house also had a great gazebo, washer and dryer, and karaoke system. All appliances were up to date very well taken care of. The house did NOT have air condition but due to the nice weather in the evening it would get very cool. Each room had a fan that helped a lot. Amy was very welcoming and respectful of our family needs.
The house that Jim provided was a great home base for our one-week adventure on the Big Island. Good wifi and AC, a large kitchen, and also a nice little outdoor barbecue area for Amelia's birthday party. Jim was very welcoming and he also helped us figure out the karaoke machine. It was a great experience and we'll consider this home again if we ever come back to Hilo!
Having en-suite bathroom and mini fridge in all bedrooms was incredibly helpful. The home was very minimally furnished - plates, pots/pans, towels, etc. Definitely not a luxurious home by any means. The property is very open and it was nice to walk around. The hosts were very friendly and helped us with everything we needed.
Loved the location. The house is close to Hilo airport and not far from Kona airport. The house is large enough if you are traveling with a large party.. Jim was easy to communicate with even before we booked the house. Our plans changed a little once we booked and again Jim was easy to reach as well as help with the adjustments in arrival time. Jim communicated the entire time and made sure our needs were addressed.
This house is in a nice quiet place you hardly know there are neighbors. Eight of us stayed here for 6 nights with 2 people in each room. Each room had a bathroom, microwave and fridge. We enjoyed cooking dinners together in the kitchen and eating in the main room. We could have used a big table in the house for us all to eat around. We cooked on the grill and ate under the covered lanai with a table plenty big for us all. The big washer and dryer were a great addition. Jim was a great host and easy to contact. He showed us how to use the karaoke equipment and even sang us some songs. We hadn’t tried karaoke before and loved it. The fresh fruit from the trees in the back yard was yummy. The house was close to all the attractions on the Hilo side of the island. The use of a cooler and ice packs was nice for our picnics. We liked the Volcano National Park, waterfalls, snorkeling and farmers market. This was a great place to stay and would stay here again.
Accommodations were perfect for our family group. Hosts were friendly, helpful and a good source of information in showing us around the area. Loved our stay!

Great guests and would be a wonderful pleasure serving all of them again!
We want to stay at a place that was peaceful, but still close to the beach and shopping. This was the perfect place! Jimmy attended us when we needed something and was always helpful. I would recommend this place to friends and family.
Five of us stayed at the property for 6 nights as part of a longer birthday trip. Jim was a great host, gave us information about the area and the island, and made sure we had everything we needed. The house was very well stocked with toiletries plates/utensils/kitchenware. Each room had a mini fridge, toaster oven, microwave, utensils and TV as well so we were each able to do our own thing or hang out in a group in the kitchen/living area. The property isn’t far from the city of Hilo, but far enough away that it was very quiet and relaxing. We were able to pick fresh limes in the back yard, utilize the BBQ grill out on the lanai and there was plenty of room in the house. The laundry facilities were great as we had several legs to our trip and didn’t have to go to a laundromat to clean clothes. If I make another trip to the big island I’ll be sure to check the availability on this house again.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay! Thank you for being a great guest and so respectful of our house. We hope to see your group again in the near future. Aloha and stay safe!
Rental process was easy. Host was communicative through process of renting and staying. His “rules” were easy and simple and just common sense. House was large enough to suit us and clean. Our granddaughters especially enjoyed chasing the chickens! Even named some of them!
Mahalo to Mr.Jim for his uplifting hospitality from when we checked in and during our stay at his home👍It was a very beautiful home 🌈☀️🏡and very comfortable for me and my family 🤙we would definitely recommend Mr Jim’s home to all with small or large families 👍the karaoke 🎤 was the best feature in his home and the front lanai 😄I would definitely stay here again when we travel to the big island again👍Had a great time

So glad to hear your family had a wonderful time during your stay. We will continue to add on more amenities for our guests and hopefully you will get to enjoy our swimming pool next time when you stay with us.
Mahalo!
Enjoyed our stay. It was peaceful and the owner is very hospitable. Each room has its own restroom. The owner shared information about hot spots in the surrounding area and some places on the other side of the island as well. The quality of bed in the orange room (forgot the name of that room), kept me from giving an overall 5 star rating. My husband and I normally check all the beds before picking our room, we didn't this time. We both woke up achy most mornings. We bought a sleep number bed (which we love) a month ago, so maybe our opinion is bias. Also the owner is very attentive, he responds to any questions/concerns in a timely manner. We would stay again.

Thank you for your valuable feedback and generous gratuities. We really appreciate it. We are glad you and your family enjoyed your stay and would stay again in the future. We are surprised to hear about the feedback of the mattress. We understand choosing a mattress is a very personal preference and that we tend to compare to the one we so used to sleep on at home. We bought our mattress from Amazon based on the 4.5 star rating it received from consumers. We decided to purchase this medium firm mattress so as to accommodate a broader range of guests. We have not had any mattress discomfort concern from other guests so far. We have “tested” sleep the mattress ourselves before and it was perfect for our backs. So again, we feel this is a very personal preference. We sincerely apologize if this mattress does not match up with the Sleep Number Bed you are using at home. Other than that we hope your family had an overall pleasant experience during your stay. Take care and stay safe! Aloha!

We stayed here for about a week and wished we had planned more time here on our vacation. The property was new and very well managed. Four separate bedrooms with attached bath and a common living area with kitchen. Lots of living space.
Huge backyard with fruit trees. We were able to get some star fruit, lemons and oranges from there. Jimmy & Amy were excellent hosts and we had no issues with the checkin/checkout.

About the host
Hosted by Siu Ping Chan
It's a pleasure to allow us to introduce ourselves. My name is Jim Lee, the owner of this property along with my wife, Amy. In 2005, we moved to the Big Island from the San Francisco Bay Area and loved living here in this paradise since. We are both college and university graduates. I graduated with an AA degree in Hospitality/Culinary Art and an AS degree in Psychology. My wife, Amy, has a BA degree in Chinese. Previously we owned a Bed and Breakfast and had served many happy guests from around the world. With our prior hosting experience, we hope you find confidence in choosing us as your hosts during your next vacation. Aloha!
Why they chose this property
Many moved to Hawaii for emotional reasons. For us, it was for practical ones—to stay away from heavy traffic, cold weather, and high cost of living, just to name a few. We found very early on that it is very affordable to own a piece of land in this paradise and the potential of what one can do with it. My wife enjoys gardening and planting, but with the limited amount of living space it was a hobby she could not pursue when we were living in a townhouse on the Mainland. Now, it is a great joy to see her being able to harvest fruits and vegetables and share with our friends and neighbors.
What makes this property unique
We built this house with the intention of educating our guests about the Big Island in mind during their stay here. You will notice some of the details we put in such as the natural materials used to build the lanai columns, the paintings displayed, the giant map of the Island of Hawai'i depicted at the entrance way are all that will sure spark your curiosity about this island.
