The Red House is part of our 4 acre family compound on Lake Buel. Our family has owned this property since 1935. Generations of children have had their whole life defined by our Summers at the lake. This house is one of four on the property. The other three are occupied by the extended family members.

You are right on the lake, beautiful screened in porch, one floor, no stairs in or out. Parking is on the same level as the house. You will spend much of your time lounging around or enjoying your meals on the 30' long screened-in porch that runs the width of the house. Plenty of comfortable seating on the porch and a dining table that seats 8. Bring your own boat and tie it up your private dock. When not enjoying the screened porch, the Great Room will be the activity center of the house. It starts with the Fireplace area and our friend 'the moose'. The great room sliding glass doors open to the screened in porch to bring the summer breezes into the house. Use the two ceiling fans or the room air conditioner to make it comfortable on the warm summer days.

The Red House was a great house!!!

Starting with the friendly and helpful welcome, our stay at the Red House was fantastic!!! The beds were comfortable, the house was spotless and well-maintained. Although it was only just the two of us, the common area (living room/dining room) would be a great place for a family to hang out. For us, the best part of the house was the screened in porch overlooking the beautiful lake. Even in the rain, we were able to enjoy the view of the lake. Jerry couldn't have been more helpful. It was a wonderful long weekend and we'll definitely go back.

One of the most picturesque locations in the berks

Rustic setting, but the view of the lake and watching the kids from the summer camps water ski and sail made the home exceptional. Close proximity to GB and easy access to rt 7 a real plus.

Best Rental We've Ever Had

The Red House is remarkable. We are a senior couple whose 2 sons and their families come to the Berkshires for a week and stay with us. We had plenty of room for everyone. The bedrooms are in a separate wing, so we didn't feel that the house was too big for just us. The best part of the house is the enclosed porch, which runs the entire width of the house. We ate all our meals out there, with a lovely view of Lake Buell. In addition, there are wicker chairs and sofas on the other side of the porch, a lovely place to sit and read or just have conversations with our family. We loved the house so much that we're renting it for the month of July next year! We love the Berkshires, as we used to camp there for many years. One of the appeals of the Berkshires is the cultural attractions. If you like music, dance, theater, art museums, you will love the Berkshires.

Red House cottage

The house was a wonderful place to stay. Everything was provided for the month rental. It was clean and efficient with lots of room for our children and grandchildren to come and visit. the screened porch facing the lake was the best part. The owners of the cottage live next door and were the most welcoming family we have met in a long time. Our experience there was memorable and we would do it again.

Thanks for staying with us. The Red House on Lake Buel does have one of the best screened in porches with a lake view in the Berkshires.

The Red Cottage

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the red cottage. It was spacious, clean, as close to the water as you could possible get and in a postcard setting. The cottage is old and decorated in a manner that gives you the feel of being in a lakeside cabin in the backwoods of Maine. At first blush it appears a bit primitive, but that quickly changes as you settle in. It is well stocked and provides all of the creature comforts that we consider essential. The location is sufficiently private to give you the solitude you sometimes desire on a vacation, yet close enough to downtown Great Barrington and Stockbridge to provide you with more than ample dining and shopping attractions. Our stay was primarily two adults and two large dogs (we had friends visit for a couple days), but the space was sufficient for three times that number. Suffice to say this is a good size cottage. I think the most important factor in making this an exceptionally enjoyable experience was the kindness and hospitality showed by the owner and his family. They own the contiguous properties and could not have been nicer landlords. The houses are all situated so as to provide a good amount of privacy. On our first day we met several of the family members and found them to be gracious and cordial. The owner was kind enough to provide us with a tour of the lake in his antique and pristine mahogany Chris-Craft boat. He and his family were also kind enough to invite us to accompany them to an evening performance at Jacobs Pillow. We couldn’t imagine any nicer people to deal with. We would highly recommend the red cottage to anyone wishing to experience the Berkshires. We are lifelong New England residents who had never previously experienced the attractions and beauty of this region. This is a very special area and an extraordinary vacation house that has earned our desire to return.
