About this property
Dunes Lodge is a newly-restored mid-century modern home in Laketown, Michigan
Dunes Lodge is a newly restored mid-century modern retreat in Laketown, Michigan, originally built in 1961. Easily accessible yet privately secluded on four wooded acres, the home offers the best of both worlds: Lake Michigan’s finest beaches are just a short bike ride away, while the resort towns of Saugatuck, Douglas, and Holland are less than five minutes by car.
The lodge features four outdoor living spaces seamlessly connected to the home, including a cozy porch for morning coffee, a sunny upper deck for lounging, and a family-sized patio designed for outdoor dining. A firepit at the forest’s edge brings everyone together for evening campfires, while the expansive grassy backyard and winding woodland path create a setting that feels both spacious and intimate—ideal for multi-generational families.
Inside, the home has been thoughtfully updated with all-new appliances and state-of-the-art technology. High-speed indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi networks are among the best available. Both the main living space and the primary bedroom feature full surround-sound theater systems with large-screen televisions, while music can be streamed throughout the property to high-fidelity outdoor sound systems on the deck, porch, and patios.
The home’s striking design and landscape were reimagined by Hong Kong–based sculptor and media artist Scott Hessels, who carefully preserved and enhanced its distinctive architectural angles and original woodwork. The artworks throughout the house come from his personal collection and include rare pieces with rich, colorful histories. The original handmade cabinetry and sculptural staircase—an expressive composition of lines and angles—have been fully restored and are now recognized as heritage mid-century architectural landmarks.
The grounds are equally remarkable, featuring centuries-old maples, pines, and oaks, a mature rhododendron garden, and a thoughtfully curated collection of locally grown native trees.
