About this property
Jasmine Cottage, Nr Burford , Oxfordshire
Jasmine Cottage is a beautiful 300-year-old Cotswold stone cottage nestled in the quiet, unspoilt village of Windrush. Surrounded by National Trust land, there are numerous walks in the stunning Windrush valley leading to water meadows and idyllic villages. Wildlife and birds are abundant and you will often see foxes, badgers, hares, deer and many beautiful species of birds and wildflowers. It is a perfect cottage to relax by the fire and unwind.
Your home-away-from-home is equipped to make your stay as relaxed as possible with antique furniture, designer sofas, a claw-foot bath, comfortable beds and big fluffy bath sheets. This is the perfect cottage to escape from the pressures of the world without having to climb into a car.
Enter this pretty cottage into a light-filled hallway with stone flooring, mullion window and plenty of space for muddy boots and coats. Through the latch door is a cosy sitting room, with exposed beams, two mullion windows, a window seat to watch the world go by, and of course, the beautiful stone fireplace with wood burning stove laid up and ready to light on your arrival. The cottage kitchen is to the rear of the property and, although small, is filled with light and well-equipped with everything you'll need to prepare and enjoy the wonderful local produce on offer. A small dining area in the kitchen leads you out to the charming patio with garden furniture where you can enjoy al-fresco meals on warm summer days whilst admiring the wonderful garden foliage and flowers which surround you. Climb a few steps up to the main garden area, mostly laid to lawn with herbaceous borders with a bistro table and chairs. Parents will need to be mindful here of a 5' drop back down to the patio area, shielded by a hedge.
When you want to eat out, the historic Fox Inn is a 20 minute walk across the fields. Walkers will enjoy the two mile ramble along the valley to the National Trust village of Sherborne, where the village shop serves excellent breakfasts, lunches and delicious homemade cakes.
Additional Information: One small well-behaved dog is welcome (small additional charge). Oil central heating. Travel cot and highchair available on request (please provide your own cot linen). Idyllic Cotswold cottage - ideal for me and my husband, and our cockapoo. Ideally close to great walks and chocolate box towns and villages, like Burford, Bibury, the Slaughters and the Barringtons. Beautiful wild flower fields too. The weather was kind - and the cottage stayed beautifully cool. Highly recommend.
We loved Jasmine Cottage from the minute we pulled up in front of it. It presented exactly as the listing portrayed and we felt instantly at home. It was up to our usual standards of cleanliness and the little touches made us feel welcome.
We had the best sleep, had ease of use in the well equipped kitchen and enjoyed having our own private garden. Our three year old loved the single room and claimed it as her own on arrival!
The only small niggle was the lack of provision of toiletries, which we had been led to believe would be available. We had brought our own however, so it wasn’t that big a deal. We also couldn’t work out the heating in the bedrooms and living room - we did make a cosy fire on the last night though, which was lovely.
We will definitely stay again.
Exactly the historic, quiet, relaxing setting we were looking for. This cozy cottage is well equipped and a good home base for exploring the Cotswolds. The extra touches like fresh bread, milk, wine and cheese and other goodies awaiting us was most welcoming.
We did have a little trouble with the hot water as others have mentioned but managed.
We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.
