This picturesque cabin is surrounded by tranquil sights. Nestled between the Lincoln National Forest and the Ruidoso River, the property boasts frequent sightings of deer, turkey, elk, and the beloved Ruidoso wild horses. The hot tub, oversized deck, and screened porch are perfect vantage points to observe nature at its best. Access to town with the varied activities Ruidoso has to offer is a short ride or pleasant walk away. The location could not be better.
Walk out the back door into the Lincoln National Forest. Out front, soothing sounds from the river give a special kind of peace. The secluded deck feels like lounging in a tree house, and the Weber gas grill and upscale patio furniture accommodates the best in outdoor dining. The hot tub provides private relaxation with peaceful views of the brilliant stars at night. It is the perfect way to soothe weary muscles after a day of hiking.
This romantic retreat is designed to pamper you with quality linens, bathrobes, comfortable furnishings, and cozy throws. An abundance of windows allows plenty of natural light and cool mountain air. No short-cuts were taken here. The kitchen has everything you can imagine including a full array of dishes, drinkware and cookware, and a generously stocked pantry. Choose to dine either inside or outside on the screened porch or deck, each with amazing views and the sounds of nature. Morning coffee on the screened porch while listening to the hummingbirds nearby is an experience to savor.
Whether you are enjoying the cabin by yourself or with your loved ones, this retreat will be deeply refreshing. The spacious bedroom has one queen bed, and there is a foldaway cot to accommodate a child. The well-lit bathroom has hair styling accessories, heated floor, and a full-sized tub with shower. The entire cabin exudes the charm of aged pine and tastefully appointed updates. Parking is provided under the deck with stairs leading to the back door.
For your safety and convenience, the property has contactless check-in and keyless entry. Pets are welcome with a prepaid fee. There is no smoking allowed anywhere on the property.

"The property is wonderful, very pleasant and cozy. It’s ideal for a peaceful stay for a small family like ours. It’s nestled right in the forest, which allows you to experience wildlife up close. Cabin in the Sky...

We actually ended up staying at the Cabin in the Sky on this trip. It's a larger cabin but just as cozy and comfortable as the smaller one in Upper Canyon. The host is amazing--she is very communicative and has ensured that the cabin has everything you might need. The location is great--the cabin is very close to Midtown, Grindstone Lake, the Cedar Creek trails, restaurants, and more. My favorite part was the large screened in porch and deck. When we weren't out and about, I spent most of my time sitting on the porch enjoying the amazing weather and the birds!

Cozy cabin with fun decor

Perfect cabin for a couple. Pretty much everything you need. Bed was very comfortable, but small. In a nice, quiet location in Upper Canyon. I give it 4-1/2 stars because the bed is small.

Beautiful Cabin

This cabin is everything it’s advertised to be plus more! It’s in a great location… forest behind..river below. We had about 20 deer come down from the forest into the yard on our first morning there. The cabin is decorated beautifully and is super clean! We will definitely be back!

Peace and Tranquillity

Take your book and groceries and never leave for a peaceful stay in this gorgeous cabin. The setting is beautiful and refreshing while the bustle of Ruidoso is nearby if you choose. We did both but spent most of our time cooking on the grill and relaxing. Our Yorkies loved the new adventure. We would definitely recommend this cabin and choose it again!

Great getaway!

We loved the cabin! Perfect for a couple. Due to CoVID, we actually spent quite a bit of time at the cabin during our week in Ruidoso. We loved the big, screen porch with the hillside view! We thought the cabin was nicely laid out and decorated, with lots of windows. Private backyard and deck with hot tub. We were fortunate to see lots of turkeys and deer right on the cabin property.

Wonderfully Perfect!

Perfect cabin with so many nice amenities. Cabin was clean, inviting and perfect for our purposes. Great location in Upper Canyon. Very quiet with family of deer dropping by daily. Highly recommend this property The property owner was very easy to work with vert attentive to our stay and enjoyment of the property. Definitely want to return!

5th fabulous stay

This was our fifth time visiting this cabin. It is a wonderful getaway in the mountains! We call it our "tree cabin" because you really feel like you're in the trees. Great privacy, great views. We spent a lot of time on the screened porch this time around (summer visit)! Thank you, Cathi!! Excellent communication and very comfortable stay.

Gem of a cabin!!

This was a beautiful cabin in the upper canyon. Within 15 minutes of our arrival, we were visited by 8 curious deer and saw many more throughout our stay. Cathi was very helpful and extremely responsive to texts and questions. The cabin had all the amenities that we needed and we especially enjoyed the washer and dryer. We loved our stay and will definitely be back!

5 Star Experience (Cutest Little Cabin Ever)

Starting 2025 off in New Mexico relaxing, visiting from Oklahoma! We enjoyed our stay at the cabin so much! It was easy to find, charming, and home like. I've never stayed at a cabin that was SSOOO accommodating (crock pot, spices, condiments, detergent, etc.)! I bought groceries and when not skiing/shopping/or out for dinner, we were hanging out at the cabin. Our 7 year old felt like it was home away from home. We saw Elk, Deer, and Wild Horses in the neighborhood! This was much needed time relaxing as a family. I could tell through our very limited interactions that the Chambers are great people, very kind and generous. Thank you for making this experience one we will not forget! A Place We Always Return

You want a beautiful place for 2 and your furry family member? This is your place! You’re in the center of it all but feel like you’re all alone. Peace and tranquility

The cabin feels secluded with the forest behind it and a hill beside it. It has everything you need and then more. The screened porch is perfect to watch the sun come up over the mountain through the trees. We were blessed to have snow during our trip and there's nothing better than sipping hot chocolate, watching the fire and looking out ALL the windows at the snow. Such a beautiful property that is dog friendly, a rare find for sure.

What a Beautiful Cabin!!!

This cabin was great! We like to hike, and there aren't very many cabins that have the national forest as their backyard! This one does, and it is beautiful! The hot tub was clean and well-maintained, the cabin was cozy and gorgeous! The furniture is so comfy, including the bed! The kitchen looked brand new and had all of the supplies we needed, plus a great view of the national forest and the deer. I could list a million things that this place offers, it's a lot! This place is a must-stay! We will definitely be back.

What a wonderful cabin!

My husband and I spent 5 days at this wonderful retreat! Perfectly situated in the Upper Canyon on a private lot with the forest just out your back door yet close enough to restaurants and shops for an easy drive to town. Beautifully appointed just like the pictures. Wonderful little touches everywhere. The kitchen has everything you need. We had a little rain one day and sitting on the screened in porch listening to the quiet with the river and the rain was sooooo relaxing. A great, cool respite from a hot Texas summer!

We are Ron and Cathi Chambers. Cathi was born in New Mexico and her heart never left, so owning a place in the ‘Land of Enchantment’ comes full circle. We searched four states from North Carolina to New Mexico to find a mountain home for retirement, but the trip to Ruidoso ended our search. The heavily treed mountains and cool mountain air, the rivers and lakes, the quaint town with nearby places of interest hit all of our “must haves” and more. Once we found this tranquil cabin in Upper Canyon, we knew we had found the perfect mountain retreat.
The cabin needed attention, but that’s our specialty. Eagerly we jumped in to remodel this gem to its full potential. The kitchen is all new, as is the electrical, plumbing, gas logs, washer/dryer, hot tub, redwood decking, and energy efficient windows. The original charm of the cabin remains with warm wood trim throughout and nature right at the doorstep. It’s a great package, and the location can’t be beat. The property is a natural path for wildlife as they come to take a drink in the Ruidoso River and travel back to their home in the forest (the cabin backs up to the forest). Nights at the cabin bring crisp mountain air and bright shining stars.
We suggest bringing the young ones with you. Our grandsons absolutely love this property. They don’t even ask for electronics and rarely turn on the TV. There is just too much to see and do that’s new and exciting. One bonus this year included watching the progress of two sets of “Bambi” twins as they lost their spots and matured to young deer.
We sincerely hope you choose to stay here often and love it as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

The Upper Canyon has been the preferred vacation spot since the early days of Ruidoso. When we found the little cabin’ that looked down on the river and blended seamlessly with the forest, we knew we had found gold. The cabin just needed a refresh to be the jewel it is today. Even now after the fires and floods, the neighborhood is whole and green, and beautiful. It’s a blessing for sure.

This cabin has the charm of a vintage cabin with all the updates needed for a relaxing stay. The location is one of the best in the area with direct access to the forest and the sights and sounds of the river below. It is truly one of a kind.
