The Wild Earth Barn is a cosy chalet in a magnificent mountain setting, with uninterrupted views of the Wilkin Valley, Mt Aeolus glacier and the Mt Aspiring National Park. It's a particularly restful place to stay. The Barn is a self contained dwelling as part of our lodge. Wild Earth Lodge is a rammed earth home where we live and offer guests a unique wilderness experience. The property sits between two high country sheep stations in the Wilkin Valley, Makarora. Makarora is a small township with a cafe, authentic local pub and DOC centre. The Barn has easy access to the rivers and is 5 minutes from the boat ramp at the head of Lake Wanaka. The drive to Haast takes 1 hour and we are 40 minutes from Wanaka township. The fishing is great here and the rivers are open for reel or fly fishing between November and April. A heli guided fishing trip is an incredible day! The Mt Aspiring National Park has many beautiful walks and great hut facilities. Day walks to 4 day overnight tramps are all on our doorstep. In winter Cardrona and Treble Cone Ski fields are 70 minute drive from our gate to the car parks. We are happy to help you plan any activities or adventures such as jet boating, heli sightseeing, guided fishing or hunting, even a ride in a classic Shelby Cobra! There are two other rooms available in the lodge (1 King Bed, 1 Queen Bed) each with a bathroom if you require more room. Special conditions: Smoking allowed outside only. Pets allowed with prior approval.
Extras: Linen (included); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave;
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

The beauty of the location was amazing.
The beauty of the location was amazing. The property was well equipped and extremely comfortable. It was within easy access to a number of outdoor activities and natural attractions. It was also a great place to just laze back with a glass of wine and watch the sun set.

Amazing people who fitted in so well with everything here in Makarora ! they left the place so clean & tidy as well .Would love to have them come back & catch that big fish that got away!!!
Lovely accommodation. Exactly like pictures. Beautiful location. Quiet and peaceful. Comfortable bed. Great shower pressure. Washing machine and washing power provided. Really appreciated all the breakfast supplies provided. Great host. Wish we could have stayed longer. Would definitely return if we are back in New Zealand.
We loved every minute here. This is not a place for people who want airconditioned sterility or crowded cafes or lots of young backpackers swarming about. This is for people who want calm, solitude, mountain walks, incredible swimming in a pristine river or lake, beautiful views of the southern alps, etc. "The Barn" is a cozy, fairly secluded spot. The hosts were very helpful. We would love to come back for a longer stay.
What can I say? We had such a fantastic time at the Barn in Makarora. From the moment Janine (and Cash) welcomed us, we fell in love with the place. The Barn is incredibly comfortable with jaw dropping views. Pete is a bloody good egg, who had us all laughing. We were all grateful for their warmth, generosity and hospitality. We’ll be back in a heartbeat.

11 out of 10 place that I’ve never thought that exists.
Such a thoughtful owner. It’s everything and more than I had expected there.
Out of dream place that I can’t even explain how the place became one of my favorite place in the world.
