About this property
10 Star River Front Retreat - Water Sports, Hiking, Campfires by the River
Riverfront Home 2 Bed/2 Baths, River sports, 4 acres, PETS Ok This house sits directly on the New River and has 4 acres on the N.C. and Virginia state lines. The New River is at it’s widest part here at over 300 ft. and is quite different from the nearby Little River, which indeed is little. In the summer it is 10-15 degrees cooler than the rest of the Southern Appalachian Mountains, ie Asheville, N.C. since it gets it’s weather pattern from Canada rather than the South. Stroll the grassy river walk alongside the New River. Enjoy the COOL weather. Close to Sparta, NC and Independence, VA and the Blue Ridge Parkway with the historic New River in the front yard. You can kick back on the porch, listen to the tinkling brook that runs directly beneath the open-air deck with it’s soaring cathedral ceiling, and watch the sun go down over the river. In the Fall enjoy a roaring fire and very comfortable furniture in jewel of a cabin. This two-story, post-and-beam house sits on 4 pristine acres of woods, directly overlooking the New River. Though relatively compact at 1,600 square feet, the house has four distinct sleeping areas, including two generous bedrooms, each with a queen-sized bed; the main bedroom also has a pullout chair that makes into a twin sized bed. There is a charming children's alcove with a small pull out love seat in the second bedroom. In the living room (with stacked-stone fireplace) overlooking the river, there is a large convertible sofa. You can also relax and nap on the two adjoining side and front porch and deck.
The modern kitchen with built-in island has windows overlooking the woods and ferns in back of the house; a separate dining room overlooks the river. Both the house and it’s kitchen are fully furnished and linens are provided.
Outside, the immediate surrounds are lushly landscaped with willows, raspberry bushes, silky dogwoods, and roses. Behind the house is a meadow and wooded hillside home to abundant wildlife including geese, hawks, deer, wild turkey, fox, and beavers.
Perfect for families, individuals, or small groups wanting to get away from it all.
Ten miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway, the property is close to the VA state line, about 30 miles north of I-77 on U.S. Hwy. 21. Neighboring settlements within driving distance include Sparta, NC (good groceries, fun shops downtown, and a handful of restaurants), and Independence, VA (quaint courthouse, great grocery store, compact downtown good for an afternoon stroll).
Come for a quiet peaceful retreat or if you prefer, get active and hike, fish, canoe or kayak the river; in warm weather, you'll want to go tubing and swimming in the clear cold water. Blue-grass festivals and local artists abound; junk stores and antiquing are there for those so inclined; and some very fine potters have set up shop in bohemian-style settlements nestled in the rolling farmland outside Sparta.

The property was listed as described. We felt right at home. The house was very clean. The river access is perfect. The porch with the creek running under is so relaxing. The gate on the porch is also a nice touch for pets. Host left details about getting to the property and check-in and out was a breeze.
Loved our stay at the Cabin. We had everything we needed and enjoyed grilling dinner on the Weber charcoal grill. Super convenient riverfront for paddling (put in/take out). So many birds! Everything in the house was easy to find. Thank you!
Everything was amazing and such a wonderful stay that we hope to return again someday. The owners were very helpful and all aspects of our visit from locating the cabin to leaving the cabin. We wish we had stayed longer.longer.sperhaps next time.

So glad you and your family had a great time! Hope you can come back for a longer stay.
Our family decided to go on a New River adventure this summer in place of a beach trip. We all agree that was a hood decision and especially after staying at the most accommodating location. With great host's helping us along the way!! The house provided a great location next to the river , with an amazing view, and the most peaceful porch! With ages 9 to 70 everyone had their on favorite part of this trip! So much to do and explore. The tubing and playing in the river was great too! Thanks for a great family memory!! James & Sarah & girls (5)!!
This cabin is a perfect place for a quiet getaway. Right on the river and very private. True to the listing, this property has everything needed whether there for a week or just a long weekend. Very clean and comfortable. Beautiful views of the river from the covered porch! Charlie and Jill are so nice and always there to help should anything come up. We've stayed several times at this cabin and every time our stay has been perfect! Looking forward to our next visit!

We loved everything about our stay!! Our favorite was the porch with the babbling brook running underneath!! This was a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of life! Comfortable beds, beautiful views and wildlife!! We loved our stay!!
The place had everything we needed for an ideal canoeing trip adventure. The Bridal Creek launch to the cottage is the most beautiful stretch of the New River. We can’t wait to come back!
This was our third visit to this cabin on the river. Always so peaceful and just a nice place to relax. Hosts are very welcoming and easy to communicate with. Enjoyed our stay and will be back!
Great place to stay! My husband and I had a very relaxing weekend. The porch overlooking the river is the best! For coffee in the morning to a rainstorm in the afternoon!
We had a great time! Well stocked house with everything you need for cooking. Great easy access to the river.

Thanks so much. We wish we could but we can't take any credit for the beautiful New River, it's the oldest river in the Western Hemisphere and predates the Ice Age. The nice thing about being there in the Winter is that is indeed easier to see the wildlife... so glad they visited you. Happy New Year.
