About this property

PA Wilds Mtn Cabin, 8 pvt acres in state forest, near Elk Herd & 2 State Parks

Cedarwood Lodge is a mountain cabin on eight forested acres surrounded by the Moshannon State Forest with access to thousands of acres for exploring nature directly from the grounds. Only 4 miles off PA I-80, Exit 111, the cabin provides easy access to Parker Dam and S.B. Elliot state parks and the nearby Elk Herd (Rocky Mountain elk reintroduced in 1913 have prospered) and Elk Scenic Drive. Don't miss the spectacular Mountain Laurel Driving Tour to view the PA State Flower that proliferates throughout the mountain forests each spring.

NEW - July 2024: The internet has come to Cedarwood Lodge via StarLink! Not reliably available in this mountainous area of Clearfield County until recently, StarLink has been successfully installed and provides a strong signal though-out the cabin and surrounding property.

The Lodge is completely equipped including linens, all kitchen needs, microwave, gas cook stove and gas grill, coffee maker, toaster, TV/VCR/DVD (no TV reception), phone, wood burning stove/fireplace, and full bath with tub and shower.

Homemade bread, and sweet rolls or muffins are provided for your first morning's breakfast. Coffee and tea provided.

Deer, turkey, foxes, and an occasional bear can be observed making their way past the Lodge. Enjoy dark skies with easy access to the 'middle of nowhere' - just a 15 minute drive (12 miles) to Clearfield or 20 minute drive to DuBois.

It is easily accessible from the main highway, yet provides privacy and a feeling of seclusion. The Lodge is a great place for family get-togethers, a romantic get-away for two, or a gathering of friends.

Some comments from our guests:
'...But the best things were the walks along the logging roads, beaver ponds, flowers starting to bloom, and the peace and tranquility of the backwoods.' Ralph, Nancy, Tucker, Keisee and Marlie, from Novelty, Ohio
'Our drive was 5.5 hours, but it was worth it. We are sad to leave this hideaway to return to the stress of the city.' Amy and Pete from New York City
'We wanted to renew our friendships, enjoy nature, and escape the hustle and bustle of life. We wanted to laugh and talk late into the night. Here at Cedarwood, it all happened.' Barb, Ruth, and Diane from Evans City, PA
'We enjoyed three of the best days of our lives here! This is an absolutely wonderful place.' Chuck and Lori - newlyweds

Although there is not onsite swimming, the cabin is located 2 miles from two state parks which have swimming, boating, nature center, hiking trails of all degrees of length and difficulty. There are beaver dams within walking distance of the cabin.

The lane to the cabin was flanked by Appalachia. The rural 8 acres was a breath away from the highway. The traffic was near, and the trucks used the Jake brakes. Inside the water purifier system was very loud in the bedroom, the bowl of a double bed mattress needs to be replaced. Be careful using the water... one gallon an hour. Other than the sleepless nights, the surrounding area is really beautiful . State Parks.

Relaxing cabin in the woods

The cabin was very comfortable and clean, plenty of space for our family of 5. We spent most of our days hiking in the Moshannon state forest, which is a short drive away. Beautiful area to hike, great creeks for the kids to play in and vistas to enjoy. Great cabin to go back to after hikes for campfires and cookouts

Really enjoyed my birthday weekend and Groundhogs Day!

The Cedarwood Lodge was perfect for cooking, relaxing, sleeping and enjoying the local areas! We spent Groundhogs day is Punxsutawney, explored the Elk Country, The Blackbird Distillary in Brookville and dinner in Dubois. So many great, local spots and friendly people! Thanks Peggy!

Excellent cabin with excellent host

Everything about this stay was wonderful. Peggy’s cabin was exactly as described and in great condition. She was a great host, communicating before, during and after our stay. Oh and fresh bread/cookies and muffins waiting for us. We saw some elk, visited with our son who is at Penn State and hiked around Parker Dam. 10/10. Will definitely be back. Ok, the driveway is a bit nerve wracking pulling out but a minor inconvenience.

Very cozy and comfortable

The cabin was easy to get to with great instruction. The house was well stocked with everything we needed. We spent our evenings out by the fire pit roasting marshmallows and hotdogs and enjoying the fireflies. I recommend this wonderful place to anyone who wants to disconnect for a bit. The upper loft area was really nice.

Cozy place

Cabin had all necessary items to cook great meals. Lots of firewood too. Peggy made sure we got there safely and let us know it was ok to check in early/depart late due to no other renters at the time. Beautiful weekend. Drove to Benezett and saw many elk.

Enjoyable Week

We stayed at the cabin from September 10th-17th. The cabin was clean, and cozy. The bread and banana bread was enjoyable and appreciated. Really nice spot to take dogs. The cabin is located right below Rt 153, close enough that you can see the tractor trailers through the trees and the noise was very very loud. At night it really dampened the peacefulness of the cabin. And pulling off of the cabin lane onto Rt 153 was very dangerous, but the owner warns you of the dangers which was appreciated, take her warning seriously. The property surrounding the cabin was very nice, and the whole wild area is amazing. Highly suggest driving the Quehanna Highway-saw deer, elk, bear and many others. No wildlife seen anywhere near the cabin, except for chipmunks!

We simply loved our 3-night's stay at this secluded house set nicely back into a wooded area. The inside was immaculate, extremely comfortable and was equipped with everything we needed including wi-fi. The outside had a fire pit that we used as well as a large propane grill located in the comfortable screened in deck. The privacy was appreciated, and our two dogs loved the property! Everything was excellent! Our thanks to the wonderful owner!

A perfect weekend get away

This cabin is absolutely adorable! We really enjoyed connecting with nature - there's several large state parks and trails nearby. We also are incredibly grateful we were able to take our dogs. Being able to bring our dogs with us is a make or break on a vacation like this. We wanted to be able to hike with them, let them run and explore! Peggy was able to accomodate our pups, and we did our absolute best to abide by her house rules while we were there. A note to owners with bigger dogs, our pups like to be in the same room with us while we sleep. This cabin's main loft is up a spiral staircase, and that was NOT happening with our crew. If you've got velcro dogs like us, consider ways to help them settle in on the main floor, or commit yourself to the second bedroom.
Parker Dam State Park - 5 minutes away from cabin.
Enjoying an evening cooking dinner at the fire pit!

A great place to stay to explore Moshannon State Forest

This was a perfect "home base" to explore Moshannon State Forest. I hiked and fished some of the best streams I've seen in Pennsylvania. If you're into trout fishing, I recommend it. The top of the plateau seems to act as a sponge to buffer water flow, not allowing the streams to swell too much after rain and also keeping them flowing at a better level later into the dry season. Sure, I'd rather see the old forest of hemlocks and pines, but since the rampant logging around the turn of the 20th century, it's coming along nicely. Pennsylvania manages their forests very well and is a hidden gem for outdoor enthusiasts.
