About this property

Architectural Gem in Geelong

Summary:

This architecturally designed Townhouse has soaring cathedral ceilings, two living rooms, a north facing deck and garden, an internal balcony overlooking one of the lounge rooms, a spiral staircase leading to the two bedrooms & bathroom, and a bridge connecting to an upstairs retreat with treetop views.

The location is situated within walking distance of the city centre and all of Geelong’s key attractions.

This architectural gem is quintessentially original & is sure to delight.

The Space:

This exceptional and cleverly designed townhouse is within 10 minutes’ walk of central Geelong. The house was designed in the late 1970’s by local architect Zarinan Gurrie and her husband Max Gurrie of McGlashan Everist fame as their family home.

The townhouse sleeps four people with 2 Queen Beds. It has a large open-plan area downstairs including the kitchen, dining and living room with five-metre-high glass windows overlooking the north facing deck and garden. Walk through the parlour complete with a Petrof Grand Piano to the laundry and backyard access. Climb the winding spiral staircase to access the two bedrooms, bathroom and upstairs study area. This home is beautifully decorated for your enjoyment.

The bathroom has a combination shower and low square bath. It is positioned upstairs next to the two bedrooms. The laundry has both a top loading washing machine and dryer. Outdoors you'll find an outside deck, seating, and a lovely, lush garden area. Please do not use the undercover carport, instead you will find a parking permit (place on your car dashboard) for one car which allows free parking on the street directly out the front.

Heating is by way of the gas heater in the downstairs dining area. It is easy to operate - on or off - the thermostat is set on the lowest temperature and the lowest fan . The wood burner in the parlour is NOT to be used.

Wi-fi is complimentary should you wish to stream a flick or work from home.

And if it’s not an immersive architectural delight you’re chasing; you will love the location. Situated just beyond the city centre, the house is walking distance to all of Geelong’s key attractions; from the bars and eateries on Little Malop Street, to the Barwon River - a place for watersports, walking, cycling, fishing or just relaxing, from the Kardinia Park Precinct and the GMHBA Stadium - home of the Mighty Cats, to Geelong’s Arts Precinct with galleries, performing arts centres and ARM’s award winning Library. Experience the vibrant and ever popular Pakington Street shopping precinct to the west or soothe your senses in the serenity of the Botanic Gardens to the east.

Please note: we would like to highlight some of the quirks of our original 70's architectural gem that you need to be aware of.

Firstly, the upstairs two bedrooms and bathroom are accessed by a spiral staircase. We therefore recommend this property is not suitable for young children or adults with mobility issues.

Secondly the Master Bedroom does not have a door. One of the walls in the Master is a half wall which overlooks the living room downstairs. You still get a total blockout in the Master Bedroom however with blockout blinds on all windows. Refer to the photos for Bedroom 1. Bedroom 2 has a door.

We hope you are appreciative of the original vibe of this 1970’s architect designed gem.

Guest Access:

The house is completely yours to enjoy!

The Neighborhood:

You are within a short walk of Skilled Stadium to catch that all important AFL game. Other close by destinations are the Palais Theatre, St John of God Hospital, Kardinia Outdoor Pool, and numerous shops, restaurants, bars and cafes at the top end of town. This Townhouse is in a perfect position to explore all that Geelong has to offer!

Getting Around:

Free on-street car parks right out front, you are walking distance to Geelong or South Geelong Train Station. Public transport is a short walk from the property.

Other Things to Note:

Heating is by way of the gas heater in the downstairs dining area. It is easy to operate - on or off - the thermostat is set on the lowest temperature and the lowest fan (I think called mode).

The wood burner in the parlour is NOT to be used.

The upstairs two bedrooms and bathroom are accessed by a spiral staircase. We have standing bladeless fans in each bedroom.

Please note that the master bedroom does not have a door. One of the walls in the Master is a half wall which overlooks the living room downstairs. You still get a total blockout in the master bedroom however with blockout blinds on all windows. Refer to the photos for Bedroom 1.
