About this property

Peaceful family/group home with private attached treehouse

The Tree Home is a design-rich adobe nestled beneath apricot trees in its own quiet fold of the valley—a favorite among families and small groups seeking both comfort and connection.
Sunlight pours into the living room through a wall of windows, illuminating custom finishes: diamond plaster walls, vintage textiles, natural materials, and the organic warmth of hand-selected furnishings. The heart of the home is its open-plan living and dining area, anchored by a wood-burning stove, a traditional kiva fireplace, and a large family table—ideal for shared meals, games, or slow mornings.
The kitchen is exceptionally well-appointed and includes:
4-burner stove with oven
Vitamix blender
Coffee maker, kettle & toaster
Food processor
Cast iron skillet & full cookware set
Fully stocked dishware, glassware, mugs, and wine glasses
Coffee, tea, olive oil, salt, pepper, and essential cooking spices
The home has two bathrooms. One features a deep soaking tub for long, restorative baths. The second offers a shower for refreshing the body and quieting the mind.
Step outside to a generous terrace with a BBQ grill and outdoor dining area beneath the trees. A hammock sways nearby, along with a swing and a beautifully crafted, custom-built treehouse that offers a special place for children to dream and play. This home balances thoughtful interior design with outdoor presence—set against the vast skies and quiet grandeur of the northern New Mexico landscape.
Tree Home is one of six custom adobe structures on THE LAND—a 43-acre retreat sanctuary bordered by 1.5 million acres of national forest. A year-round creek flows gently through the property, bringing life, sound, and occasional beaver sightings. The birdlife here is astonishing—an ever-shifting chorus and a delight for birdwatchers and casual observers alike. Abundant is the sound of nature: rustling leaves, birdsong, flowing water, and deep stillness.
In line with our commitment to regenerative living, the home has no air conditioning—we rely on adobe’s natural thermal regulation for perfect climate control. We maintain a strictly pesticide-free property to protect the delicate ecosystem that surrounds us. By choosing to stay here, you are invited to experiment with a slower, more conscious way of living—one that puts the planet and the animals of this Earth first.

Guest Access
As a guest of Tree Home, you’ll have full access to the 43-acre sanctuary known as THE LAND—a privately held expanse of high desert beauty, surrounded by 1.5 million acres of protected national forest. This rare setting offers uninterrupted vistas, deep silence, and a powerful sense of space and stillness.
Wander freely throughout the property, where fruit trees offer seasonal gifts of apricots, apples, pears, and plums—yours to pluck straight from the branches when in season. Open any gate and step directly into the national forest for hiking, nature walks, or truly unparalleled mountain biking. Enjoy wide-open trails and off-trail riding through rugged terrain, all without another soul in sight.
Sit quietly by the acequia, listen to the year-round creek as it winds through the valley, or watch for beavers at dusk. Children can safely explore while you rest, reconnect, or simply breathe more deeply.

Shared amenities include:
Two open-air yoga/viewing decks, ideal for movement, meditation, or stargazing beneath some of the clearest night skies in North America
The Fire View, a raised stone platform with unobstructed views of the Pedernal, featuring a wood-burning fire pit and grill for gathering, storytelling, and open-flame cooking

Amazing place to vacation if you want to get away from cities! There were some hiccups at check-in but the owner was very communicative and we were able to resolve the issue. The location is quite remote so you need to cook all your meals, but the kitchen is really well-equipped, and we had everything we needed. Be aware that the fireplace is the only heating source of the house. We visited in mid-October so it was not an issue, especially with the thick comforter and extra blankets they provide. But I can see it getting cold during the winter months. Overall great experience! I would stay there again, especially given its mid-point location between Santa Fe and Chaco.

Horror Movie Vibes

I don’t think I can remember a more unpleasant vacation experience in my entire life. The listing was very deceptive (several amenities outlined in the listing were missing from the property, the house was 100 feet away from 2 other guest houses even though the listing said that the homes were specially distanced for privacy). They also failed to mention that it was bear season and that there were several bears spotted on the property. We paid for a 2 night stay, and the electricity went out the first night. It also took us about an hour to lock all of the doors because they gave such poor instructions. The house is very hot without the fans, so not being able to use them made it extremely difficult to sleep. The electricity came back on in the morning for a couple of hours, but then it went out again. There is no cellular service out at the house, so WiFi was the only way to communicate with the owner. While we still had some electricity in the morning, I tried contacting the owner to ask why we didn’t have a key (I didn’t feel comfortable going out and leaving all of our belongings behind). However, I couldn’t reach the owner because the WiFi wouldn’t work at all. I had to drive very far from the house to try and get a signal on my phone, but I had no success. Previously, the owner sent an email out saying that if we couldn’t reach them, we could find them at the main house (which they never specified which one was the “main” house). So I went to each house with no response. The owner has a plethora of cameras on the property, so it felt like they were just watching me wander around. After trying unsuccessfully to find anyone after quite a while, I gave up and went back to the sweltering hot house. When I got back, I discovered that the water stopped working. I eventually found the breaker in a very creepy basement on the side of the house. I reset it several times but still no electricity. We just sat around in the hot house waiting for the electricity to come back for a couple of hours until I finally decided to leave. We heard someone (not in our family) close the door to the basement - electricity eventually came back on shortly after hearing the door. Contacted owner once we got reception and they said they didn’t have any electricity issues (which proves they were just watching me on their cameras). Not one apology from the owner. I asked for a refund and they just told me to deal with Vrbo. Please stay away from this property.

The perfect base camp for a hunting trip (or just a perfect place to unplug and unwind)

Our stay at The Land was very enjoyable. We stayed in the treehouse with our kids (5 years old and 18 months) and Grandma and Grandpa and used it as our base of operations for my wife’s elk hunt. The place has a great layout inside and the front porch and treehouse made for a the perfect outdoor play area for the kids. The lack of city lights and the front deck made for some beautiful views of the stars and planets through the spotting scope at night. It was located perfectly for hunting and we only had a short drive to our hunting spots each day. The amenities were as advertised and the lack of cell service makes for a good way to unplug from the normal day to day. The Wi-Fi was solid and allowed us to review maps at night and make our plans for the next day without issue. Contact with the owners was easy (we needed to extend our stay by one day) and during our discussion Jonathan asked if we needed anything and offered to drop additional firewood off at our place. He was very accommodating and friendly when we met him. This is a very pretty location and one we are planning to check into again, especially if we need a good base camp for a hunt in the area.

We arrived at THE LAND as Airbnb guests. Instantly we felt a deep connection to the land and this beautiful space. Just out of curiosity we decided to do a google search to see what was for sale in the area, lo and behold, the very property we were staying at was listed for sale. So we bought it !
It's been a real adventure. Our vision is to create a sustainable eco-friendly designer living space. We are trying to restore the land, the trees, and orchard that had been grossly neglected by the previous owners who hadn't watered or nurtured the land in over 2 years. Additionally, we are moving into full solar energy, composting all organic matter, recycling of greywater, a massive watershed management project, as well as planting our own veggies that hopefully we will be available for sale to all guests in the next year.

What makes this property unique

43 acres of private property, 1 creek, 2 yoga decks, a luxury barn and 1.5 million acres of national forest surrounding the property for hikes and walks. The entrance to the national forest surrounding THE LAND is through our property so we think it fair to say that you will have private access to 1.5 million acres of hikes, serenity and spectacular views.
15 mins away from Lake Abiquiu.
