After a day of exploring, relax in the wood-fired sauna—its beautiful flames will light up your evenings. Scherwiller is located in the heart of Alsace, near Colmar and 40 kilometres from Strasbourg. Just a few kilometres from Sélestat and the famous Wine Route, Scherwiller stands proudly in the heart of the Piémont region. Renowned for its wines, particularly Riesling, Scherwiller boasts 370 hectares of vineyards, placing the village among the top three municipalities in the Bas-Rhin department in terms of vineyard area. Come meet the winemakers who are passionate about their craft; they’ll share their expertise with you and offer a tasting of their finest vintages… The village is traversed by the Aubach River, lined with about a hundred wash houses. This site, which has been a listed historic site since December 4, 1969, is well worth a visit for a journey back in time. Stroll along its banks, cross the small stone bridges, and stop to explore the remains of the old washhouses where washerwomen once came to wash their laundry. In the summer, these washhouses come back to life during the street theatre performance on Rue des Lavandières, where scenes from the village’s rural life are acted out in both French and Alsatian. Along the Aubach River, admire the typical half-timbered houses dating from the 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Beautifully coloured, they typically feature half-timbered upper stories and cut-stone ground floors. A blend of tradition and modernity that is sure to amaze you. On the heights of the town, take a stroll along the rocky outcrop where Ortenbourg Castle, built in the 13th century, stands. The view of the town, the Alsace plain, the Swiss Alps, and the spire of Strasbourg Cathedral is truly impressive… Don’t forget to also visit the Monkey Mountain, the eagle aviary, the stork park, and EUROPAPARK!!!
