About this property

Pagoda on the Salmon River

Riverside pagoda awaits, nestled on the unpredictable salmon river on a private dirt road. From your tent or sleeping. pad set on the finished wood floor, relax to the continuous sound of rushing or babbling water and occasional thump of a pinecone falling on the pitched roof. Then, as the sun slowly rises over Hunchback Mountain, when you try to read in the daytime, both you and your faithful dog at your feet are suddenly surprised by a landing flock of Canadian geese. Latrine has flush toilet but no shower or tub. Hot and cold water available in season. Ten private acres surround the property and rarely our neighbors are home. Property owner lives in the 1930’s cabin on-site.
Really peaceful, clean & quiet, delightful get away spot often enjoyed by repeat guests. Please do not plan to be joined by other visitors and respect the quiet after dark. Limit of two persons, two dogs, one car. Good place for riverside hiking, thinking, writing, reading, romance and tranquility. It is kind of nice to have several 150 ft giant rain forest trees for shade and mossy rocks for reflection.

Warning! This property my cause excessive daydreaming of someday living on the river.

Beautiful location! Once you get there you won't want to leave. Cute little house with everything two people could need. Enjoyed the turntable, it's always fun to look through someone else's record collection. Loved the little ice maker on the counter. I think our favorite part was watching the bug massacre on the river when the bats came out at dusk.

Relaxing on the River

My hubby & I had a very quiet relaxing peaceful time in a nice home that has alot of added touches to the place that brings it lots of character. The Salmon River is right where you can walk to from the back covered porch & the vinyls were wonderful to listen to with the awesome sounding stereo system. We only had to use the wood burning fireplace to keep it cozy warm in the home. We really liked how close(about 12min drive)it was to skibowl area where we went Cosmic Tubing at the East hill of skibowl. I would recommend this home if you're looking for a relaxing quiet getaway in nature(really awesome old growth tall trees surrounding it) from the hustle& bustle of city life. Also the owner was very responsive in a nice timely manner with getting back to me when I messaged him, & provided all the info I needed for our stay& was very hospitable in his return messages.

It has its pros and cons

Pros: The location was perfect. The back porch has easy access to the river. Record collection is awesome Cons: House rules: Only human waste in toilet-no toilet paper. This doesn't bother us since we camp in an RV with same rules but future guests should be aware Not as secluded as we thought-previous description said it was on 10 secluded acres. Houses on either side & folks across river When we arrived the towels were all dirty, the bed had been slept in. We contacted John via email & VRBO. He responded within an hour with an apology & a promise to waive cleaning fee. He said the cleaning service did not come out they had canceled with only an hours notice. I can understand things beyond your control-especially if you are out of town but an email before we arrived would have been nice. We found one clean towel & were promised that someone would get us more. I found the clean linens & made the bed & cleaned the bath myself. The 2 clean towels came on our 3rd day. I suggested washing the towels & was told not to use washer/dryer-as gas was off for season. The dressers and armoires are full of the hosts clothing. Plan to live out of your suitcase. The kitchen was well stocked-plenty of herbs and spices. The frying pans hang next to the stove: all were greasy and the baking pans were dirty. This could have been from the previous guests but it seems unlikely as baking sheets were crusted. The shower is large & has good pressure. The hot water tank is small-if you don't turn it off while you soap up, there is only enough hot water for one quick shower. The bed was ok. The pillows were horrible, worn out & thin. There were shams with pillows that were 1/2 the size they should have been. I didn't open them but they felt like accent pillows in a regular pillow sized sham. The bathroom is very dark except the shower/toilet area. The sink is located in an alcove type enclosure that should have a light above it. The small (9" maybe?) mirror above the sink was too low and with no light worthless. Another mirror on opposite wall had same issue with low light It is the small details that were disappointing in this stay. Guests should be provided some empty drawers/closet space & issues with cleaning staff should be address. John was very responsive but this appears to be an ongoing issue with cleaning. Would definitely not stay again at this price point.

Loved the location

We enjoyed our stay at this home! It was perfectly located to feel like we escaped, but close enough to also enjoy some exploring and coffee! Beautiful property and had no problems with our stay.

Unclean, Unsafe, and Deceitful Property

On the day of check-in we were notified that the cleaning service never arrived but would arrive the next day so we could either wait a day to arrive or change the linens ourselves and the cleaning fee would be waived. We had traveled from out of state so we chose to change the linens ourselves but to our surprise there were no clean towels to be found anywhere in the house and the set of “clean” bedding was covered in rust from the rusting hinges of the trunk it was stored in. We would have attempted to wash the linen ourselves but to our surprise the washer and dryer were taped shut and out of service with no notification even though the listing states it has a washer and was a reason for booking this property in the first place. We returned to the property on the 3rd day to take more photos for evidence and the cleaning service still had not been to the house to provide clean linens. The listing states this is a modernized & insulated 1930s cabin on isolated & quiet property which is UNTRUE and extremely DECEITFUL. Not much about this cabin is modern, clean, or safe: literal holes in the walls with daylight coming through into the living areas, large gap underneath an exterior door for critters to easily enter through, gross peeling toilet seat, broken floor tiles with missing grout filled with dirt, stained/dirty shower rug, unsafe electrical outlet next to the toilet with cords running underneath the toilet, inside of cooking appliances left disgusting, exposed stove venting, beat-up old kitchen sink, damaged kitchen counter, food crumbs and spills all over in the fridge and freezer. It most definitely is not an isolated cabin since there are many other houses closely surrounding the property along and is NOT on a lonely 10 private acres as the property listing describes. The listing also states the house is 900 sq ft but after appears to only be 576 sq ft online. Even if the cleaning service had done their job and provided clean linens on time, this property is in poor condition and not what we were paying for according to the listing and therefore we requested our money back since we had to find an alternative place to stay but the host refused to refund us for the full 12 nights we had booked. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BOOK THIS THIS PROPERTY unless you want to use dirty linens, cook and eat in a gross kitchen, sit on a nasty peeling toilet seat, stay in a house with holes, and pay to stay at a property that has provided deceitful information.

The deck makes this place amazing.

If you are looking for a resort environment, go to a resort. There is a project being built near the deck. I look forward to visiting again to see the progress. This is a lived in home. There was food in the refrigerator but there was shelving clean and empty for me. The vinyl collection is amazing. The speaker system allows one to enjoy the warmth of the tunes throughout the home. The pot belly stove had a variety of dry cedar, fir and hardwood stocked. I enjoyed two evenings sipping whiskey, listening to everything from AC/DC to Mozart. I brought my own books but ended up perusing the owners collection. I was inspired to order 5 books I found on the shelves. The WiFi works great. The shower is great. Good pressure and as hot as one could possibly tolerate. I will be booking another trip to this secluded quiet little piece of paradise at some point this year.

Overpriced and underserved

The rushing river and the towering trees are magnificent. Your miniature cannon collection was amusing and we enjoyed the extensive vinyl LP collection. That said, here’s a bit of advice: When getting paid for providing a service to the public, “managing the expectations of your customer” is an age-old and wise practice. This property was over-represented. The first problem was that turning on the electric heater tripped the circuit breaker which turned off certain lights and the stereo system (which instructions said should never be turned off). Once we sorted out where we could plug the heater in, we moved to start a small warming fire in the wood stove. The wood that had been brought in for the stove was cut for a fireplace and was all too big to even fit in the door. The kindling was wet and any other appropriate sized wood was outside and therefore wet also. Other issues: Wifi: No instructions were left for the advertised wifi. After a text msg request was sent, the reply contained a wifi password that did not work. Since the phone service at this location is erratic at best, communication with the owner was not available. Kitchen: pots, pans, cups, dishes were greasy as well as the stove top. Old food stuck to placemats. In the refrigerator we had to move the owner’s food to make a little room for our own. General housekeeping: Owner’s dirty clothes were left on the dresser. The blanket was covered in dog hair. Toilet and bathroom sink were not cleaned. In this time of the Covid19 epidemic, this level of cleaning for guests is entirely unacceptable. We agreed to rent for two nights but left after coffee the first morning. In short: OVER PRICED and UNDERSERVED.
