The cabin was wonderful more then I could imagine as my first cHun experience. There was so much hospitality that I didn’t even expect. Bath and kitchen linens were available. Along with an electric skillet and a coffee pot and some other kitchen needs and grilling utensils. The cabin kept cool and all the sleeping areas were comfortable. There is a play place located right next to the cabins and a pool within walking distance. We used the pool and play place everyday. I 10/10 recommend this to home away from home to couples and families alike! Thank you again Nikki and family!
First of all, Nikki was our online host and stayed in communication with me the whole time. When we arrived at Cedar River, I found that the cabin I thought I reserved was not the one I actually reserved.
Fortunately for us Nikki was there to check us in and helped us upgrade to a bigger cabin to fit our family and puppies. We stayed in the two bedroom cabin which had everything you needed to enjoy your stay and the place was very clean and well maintained.
We do plan on staying there the next time were in town and would like to thank Nikki for being so helpful and kind throughout the process!

We stayed for a week with 6 of us. My hubby, myself and our 4 kids. The beds and pillows were great, the kids loved the woods and play areas. We enjoyed the fire pits at night. We had ants the first day, but put out terro and had no problem. Only downside is the kitchen sink is tiny, we cooked most of our own meals and the bathroom sized sink made it a pain to do dishes. Was very private as only one other cabin was full for one night when we were there.
We were looking for a quiet place in the countryside in south-east Iowa. This is that. Apparently a former church camp, there are about a dozen cabins around a grassy central area. It is quiet, the stars were beautiful. There are a few trails into the woods, leading to a couple nice river overlooks (we didn't see a way to get down to the river). The cabin was just as described, clean, well stocked. The loft area was fun. We brought DVDs and I enjoyed the absence of WiFi (there is WiFi about 1/4 mile up the hill by the office). Very happy with our stay.
We had such a lovely stay! So many fun things to do, easy to check in, clean and friendly. Can't wait to come back!

Hi Beth! Thank you for the kind review. It was lovely hosting your family. With this being our first season, it's been easy to get lost in the chaos of new beginnings. Seeing families come in and really be able to kick back and enjoy their time here is what keeps us going and reminds us why we started this business. As always, we welcome your return stay any time! :)
The owners were so very nice! The cabin was amazing!
Friendly owners, beautiful cabins and wooded areas.

Everything was so nice and put together. All the necessities of a home away from home and no hassle. The property and trails are beautifully serene, and the property management was very helpful. Will definitely be bringing friends in the future for a week(end) away!!

Thank you for the review, Elyssa! We welcome a return stay with friends or solo any time! :)
Nikki, Lee and their teenage daughter Emilee Salek are the hosts. The owners are Jim and Freda Sojka, third wind entrepreneurs with a longtime dream of buying this camp so close to our home. It has been a church camp since the 70s, we wanted to convert it to something families could enjoy. We also love a family business to run together. We love to share our good fortune, through the sale of a successful business, (Bug Soother)this is an excellent way to be able to do that.
Why they chose this property
Beautiful area, within 10 minutes of our home. We fell in love with it several years ago, and finally were able to purchase the property.
What makes this property unique
With 53 acres of timber and trails along the Cedar River, our cabins are perfect for the outdoor explorer. Plus, with volleyball and basketball courts, tetherball, horseshoes, and a playground, there are plenty of activities for all ages. During the summer season, take in an outdoor movie in the evening, roast marshmallows around the fire pit, and relax.
On weekends you can enjoy sandwiches and milk shakes from our new food truck, The Box Lunch.
Coming soon will be 2 buildings that will hold events, a concession stand, and a large commercial kitchen to feed the guests during high season.
During high season, we will put on themed events, have activities for families.
The Ranch is set up to make some memories.
Also on the property will be a transitional living community for women in crisis. By staying at the ranch, people are supporting a fresh start for these women.
