This property is so relaxing. We had never booked with VRBO before but it ended up being so easy and we will definitely be going back at some point. Cabin was clean and owners were very friendly.

We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your time here..even with the quick surprise snow for a day! You two got to be the season openers for the year. :) Jim, one of our owners, was happy to catch you up in conversation while he was out and about working grounds. Lovely couple and we hope to see you return again!
Girls were a little disappointed the pool was in available, couldn't find any great trails; but overall was a decent stay. Saturday Night movie was our favorite part😁

Thank you for visiting us, what a nice family.
We are sorry they thought there was a pool. We found out just before the season that we could not use it. We have to gut it and start over and it couldn't be done in the time frame of 2021. There will be a pool in 2022.
All mention of the pool is supposed to be gone, where did you see it mentioned?
We are constantly working on the trails, as time allows. There is 30+ acres of timber, but pretty wild.
Thank you for coming,
Jim and Freda owners
The owner was very responsive to all my questions and concerns. The house was very clean, more than enough towels/sheets/pillows, and bedding even smelled really good (bonus). The outside area was clean, well maintained, and quiet. Overall, we would certainly revisit this house and area.
Start with the good stuff:The stay was fabulous! The cabin was great. Checkin was super easy. Staff was friendly and helpful when we called for games. Wifi wasn't great but we could use our phones. However the not great wifi was shared prior to our visit and wasnt a necessity anyway. The cabin was clean. Pool was the winner! It was super close to the Chalet and perfect water temperature! The view from the chalet porch was wonderful. We enjoyed watching the groundhogs and lovingly named them Bobbie and Millie. Lol!Not great stuff(but not awful):The dining room table and chairs are super uncomfortable. The chairs are high and dont match the table so there is no place to really put your feet if youre a shorter person. There are no luggage racks or dressers/shelves to put clothes. The couch is seriously outdated and has lost color. Any comfort it had is gone. There were a great number of spiders in the cabin. There was only 1 towel in the kitchen so doing dishes and wiping things down properly was a no go.Overall we had a nice time. Our dog loved the place as well! Would stay again if we were in the area.
The Chalet is a great cabin. It's tucked away from the other cabins there to give you more privacy. Our dogs were comfortable there as well. Home away from home for us.
The experience was great being outdoors.. loved the porch only bad thing was the roaches they were everywhere and spiderwebs, spiders and insects all throughout the cabin. If that could get cleared up I'll definitely return. It was worth the price for peace.

Hi Renita! We're so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay! The porch at the chalet is quite the place for some relaxation! :)
The serenity and peace each of our cabins have to offer is largely due in part to our location, tucked right up into the timbers of the great outdoors. While we can assure you that each cabin is professionally treated for pest control on a regular basis and we take great care to inspect our cabins for such immediately prior to each guest's check-in, we can also assure you that some of nature's critters that inhabit those timbers (not to be confused with the common house cockroach) may possibly wander in during your stay. As for the spiders, we wish we lived in a world without those creepy crawly guys too!
the cabin had all the amenities we needed and the rocking chair porch was wonderful for peaceful relaxing nights, talking and cooking out. It stormed while we were there so we didn't get to enjoy the fire pit.

About the host
Hosted by Nikki Salek
Nikki, Lee and their teenage daughter Emilee Salek are the hosts. The owners are Jim and Freda Sojka, third wind entrepreneurs with a longtime dream of buying this camp so close to our home. It has been a church camp since the 70s, we wanted to convert it to something families could enjoy. We also love a family business to run together. We wanted to share our good fortune, through the sale of a successful business, (Bug Soother)this is an excellent way to be able to do that.
Why they chose this property
As proud Iowans, we know how beautiful and sometimes under-appreciated the landscape of Iowa can be. With rolling hills, lush forest trails, and breathtaking views of the Cedar River, we believe that Cedar River Ranch encompasses all of the qualities we love about SE Iowa. Cedar River Ranch is the perfect spot for a country-chic wedding, a family reunion, a guys trip or a girls weekend to reconnect with old friends, or just somewhere to steal away for a weekend.
What makes this property unique
With 53 acres of timber and trails along the Cedar River, our cabins are perfect for the outdoor explorer. Plus, our brand new swimming pool plus volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoes, and 2 playgrounds, there are activities for all ages. During the summer season, roast marshmallows around the fire pit, and relax.
We have 2 big buildings that hold events, and a large commercial kitchen to cater to the events.
The Ranch is set up to make some memories.
Also on the property will be a transitional living community for women in recovery. By staying at the ranch, you are supporting a fresh start for these women.
