About this property
The Charlton Lane Cottage
Summary:
In the heart of Savannah's thriving Design District, this two-story carriage house is the perfect getaway with the historic ambiance you expect in Savannah! Nestled in ivy with a spacious courtyard, this is one of the most charming homes in town!
The Space:
This is the most charming, "Savannah-centric" home! This carriage house was built in late 1800s for the Main house that sits behind it.
Carriage Houses, also known as coach houses, were outbuildings, usually behind the main house, where wealthier residents kept their horses & buggies. The carriage drivers were responsible for the care of the horses and the equipment used. These drivers sometimes slept in the upper hay lofts of carriage houses. Horses, tack and the carriages were on ground level.
This particular mansion had 2 carriage houses, almost like a double garage. The Charlton Carriage House is on the corner of Charlton Lane and Whitaker Street.
Upon entering into the charming living space with original 1850s brick walls & fireplace (only decorative now) guests have a spacious living space with dining table that doubles as a work station as well. Open the shutters to allow tons of natural light inside!
The kitchen is small but fully-equipped with every cooking essential, a drip coffee maker, stove, fridge and dishwasher.
Upstairs is the bright bedroom with a king bed and generous storage - ideal for extended stays. The full bath with tub/shower combo and double vanity is en suite.
Guests are encouraged to take advantage of the ivey-drenched courtyard with your private table and chairs. Great for sunny lunches and evening cocktails.
In the courtyard is a small shed with a washer and dryer that are for your use but also shared with guests in the next door cottage.
Nearby attractions include The Sorrel-Weed House, Green-Meldrim House, Mercer Williams House Museum, and the Fountain at Forsyth Park.
Head North just a short walk towards the National Landmark Historic District center, with Broughton Street being the go-to for shopping and dining. Both City Market and River Street are a 15-minute walk from this home.

The location is convenient to everything in historic Savannah. The cottage was a great size for 2 people, was outfitted with everything we needed and the outdoor patio space was lovely.
We had a great time!. This property is in a great location for walking to the many historic homes and places in Savannah. We will definitely book this place again.

Thanks so much, Maecy! We hope to see you back soon!!
This property is just as listed! Adorable little place with a short walk to everything. Bed was comfortable, property was clean, and check out chores were simple and easy! Would definitely book again for our next Savannah stay!
This is the place to stay if you're coming to Savannah! It is easy enough to walk everywhere you need to, but so cute and quiet. It is also across the street from the cutest coffee shop that my friend and I visited every morning. Staying here truly makes you feel like a local!
Super cute property, exactly as described and pictured! Very nice residential area, about a 10-minute walk to downtown. Extremely convenient location to navigate within the historic downtown district. Would definitely recommend and consider staying here again.
It was a wonderful place. I emailed about questions and responded quickly. Place was exactly how it is described. Very ,cozy cottage in a great location.
Great stay in a beautiful city. Rental was super clean, very comfortable, and within walking distance of everything we wanted to see or do. We walked everywhere but for those who prefer to ride, the free shuttle route was nearby. We recommend this rental.
This was the perfect spot to get away for our anniversary! It was right in the heart of the historic district so we were able to walk to everything all 5 days. It was safe and quiet. Suzanne was fast and helpful with communication. Would definitely go back!

David,
I wish you had contacted us about the neighbor. I would have called the police to have them quiet down.
For any future guests: you are always welcome to call the police for noise complaints that occur after the City Of Savannah's "Quiet Hours", which are 10 pm to 8 am.
Property is exactly as described. Well equipped and beautifully furnished. Walking distance to most areas of downtown. I would've liked a throw blanket downstairs for chilly nights.
My husband and I decided to stay the weekend in beautiful Savannah after work brought me here. This cozy cottage was perfect for our stay! The location is great so despite some weekend rain, we were able to do some sightseeing!
If you stay here, be sure to go to tea at the Gryphon!
Friendly host+cozy comfort+great location =BIG WIN!
