About this property

Waterfront home. Pier, kayaks, bicycles, privacy. Near beaches, city activities.

Beautiful beaches at the coastal town of Wrightsville Beach are only 15 -25 minutes (depending on traffic) where there is also a branch of the New Hanover County Public Library, a health food store, kayak/paddleboard/watersport and equipment rentals, and spectacular waterfront dining. The colonial city of Wilmington and its historic district and riverfront park is only 14 miles. Other area attractions include Airlie Gardens, the North Carolina Aquarium, the Boardwalk at Carolina Beach, historic Fort Fisher, and the Battleship North Carolina. There are numerous golf courses in the area. Or just chill in our rope hammock!
Most of the neighbors are permanent residents. Bald Eagle Lane dead ends with only a handful of homes beyond ours, and so there is very little traffic, certainly no through traffic, making it ideal for bicycling and walking. From our front porch and street view between the single row of waterfront homes to the Intercoastal Waterway and the vast salt marsh across which sits the oceanfront private barrier island of Figure Eight Island (gated community). The view from the back of the house is across the tidal creek to the other shore lined with century-old live oaks and the private, exclusive golf course Eagle Point adding to the green and natural vistas.
Enjoy birdwatching for osprey, herons (great grey, white, green), kingfishers, cardinals, and migrating waterfowl. To support local wildlife and birds, we are transitioning to native plants and a more natural environment, so you may find our grounds less formal than our neighbors. From our private pier and dock we enjoy, fishing and crabbing (for fun, not dining), launching our kayaks for a paddle out to the bay or Intracoastal Waterway and across to the Figure Eight Island salt marsh creeks, viewing the sunset and tidal shifts. With the daily changing tide, every 24 hours the creek water level swings through a spectacular scenic high tide, at times nearly to pier level, through a "dead" low tide exposing areas of the creek bottom and its breeding ground for schools of minnows. There is a channel running in front of the pier, so even at low tide a kayak can often be launched, the creek may not be navigable at dead low times depending on the time of year/tide swings. We have three sit-on-top kayaks available for your use: one two-person kayak; two one one-person kayaks. Walking or swimming in the creek is not allowed due to sharp oyster shells and unstable mud creek bottom. While Wilmington has some alligators in fresh water lakes to the south of us, there are NO alligators in this salt-water creek.
The house has two bedrooms and full shared bath on the ground level, two bedrooms and full shared bath on the second level, and additional half-bath on ground level. Two of the bedrooms have a television, and the televisions with their Roku boxes can be moved to a different bedroom as needed. Two of the common areas have a television. The light and airy sunroom is lined with large windows overlooking the salt marsh and tidal creek. Also on the ground level is a private den, family room, kitchen with connected dining area overlooking the salt marsh creek. Surrounding the house are native plants including live oak trees, cherry trees and other hardwood trees providing abundant shade, as well as azalea and holly berry shrubs, palmetto trees, and a lawn area. Detached from the house is a wooden shaded gazebo with a porch swing with a view of the waterfront, a lovely spot during summer rain showers. Other outside spaces include a large deck off the sunroom, a small deck off the kitchen/dining with a nearby rope hammock, and a small front porch.
In addition to all the basic furnishings, equipment, and supplies, please feel free to use any of our books, cards, games, puzzles, yoga mat, bicycles (4) and kayaks (3). Lifejackets are located in the garage and must be worn at all times when using the kayak. Children must be accompanied by adults on the kayaks. Parties and events are not allowed.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

I recently retired from Carolina Alumni, the University of North Carolina’s Alumni Association. My husband, Glyn and I have a long and loving connection to Wilmington, North Carolina. I first moved to North Carolina from Butler, PA, just north of Pittsburgh, and Wilmington is my North Carolina hometown. My first professional job was advertising sales for the local NBC affiliate, WECT-TV6. Glyn is a retired businessman, originally from Alabama, but grew up in Fayetteville, NC, and France as his father was career military. Nearly 16 years ago years ago we purchased this wonderful house in an extreme “fixer-upper condition”. We continue to fund repairs, renovations, replacements and improvements through our rentals, and we hope to convert it to our full-time home at some point in the future. Until then, we love spending family time there and sharing it with our guests. We hope you will enjoy your visit. Questions always welcome!
