About this property
Villa Carlotta. STUNNING Fisherman's cottage right on the water in Southern Corsica
Maisons Rares is delighted to offer for rent this fabulous waterfront house, located in Southern Corsica at Cala d’Orzu, nestled in a wild and secluded bay.
The entire area is protected as part of the **Natura 2000** network.
After following a long, well-maintained track winding through the Corsican maquis, you arrive at this wonderfully private, unspoilt and authentic place. In front of the house lies the crystal-clear turquoise sea. All around, hundreds of hectares of untouched Mediterranean landscape and beautiful beaches. **A truly rare place.**
The house has **five bedrooms upstairs**, each with two or three large windows offering spectacular views over the sea, rocks and surrounding maquis.
On the garden level, the open-plan kitchen and living room with fireplace feature **five enormous floor-to-ceiling windows**, all facing south, east or west, overlooking the sea and rocks.
All the terraces are on one level and wind naturally around the house, following the principles of organic architecture, weaving between trees, rocks and lawns and adding to the poetry of the setting.
There are **two outdoor dining areas**, allowing you to have lunch or dinner overlooking either the cove or the rocky coastline. Outdoor lighting can be adjusted to create the perfect atmosphere, whether for an intimate dinner for two or a lively dinner for twenty.
Sun loungers are placed throughout the terraces and grounds. You can also dine by the coves, among the rocks, in the garden or on the large lawn. Everything is provided to make your stay as easy as possible, including a barbecue. **Open fires are strictly forbidden anywhere on the property.** Large parasols provide plenty of shade during the hottest hours of the day.
In the garden, around 20 metres from the house, there is a small stone outbuilding completely integrated into the maquis. It provides additional storage and includes a **second freezer, an additional refrigerator and a pantry**.
It is also ideal for storing beach equipment, water-skiing gear, fishing equipment and sports equipment. The outbuilding also has a bathroom and toilet.
### Guest access – How to get there
**By air:** The nearest airport is **Ajaccio Airport**.
**By ferry:** The nearest ferry port is also **Ajaccio**.
**By road:** The journey from Ajaccio takes approximately **45 minutes**, following a beautiful coastal road.
From Ajaccio, follow the D55 along the coast towards Acqua Doria, passing through Porticcio, Ruppione, Verghia and Portiglioli.
At the exit of Portiglioli, take the D155 on the left towards Acqua Doria. Continue for approximately 6 km, drive through the village and, after leaving it, turn right towards Capu di Muro.
After approximately 3 km, you will reach a fork in the road with a large sign for **“Chez Francis”**. Turn right and continue for around 700 metres. In a slight dip in the road, take the dirt track on your left. After approximately 30 metres, you will reach a gate, which is normally left open.
**By sea:** The house can also be reached directly by boat. After rounding Capu di Muro, head towards Chez Francis beach at Cala d’Orzu. The small harbour and the house are easy to identify, and you can moor directly below the property.
### During your stay
**Minimum stay of one week in July and August.**
Surrounded on one side by grounds filled with wild Mediterranean vegetation, the house is also bordered by secluded coves.
At the foot of the property, one of these coves forms a **small natural harbour**, where you can moor your own boat or the owner’s boat. It can accommodate three or four boats, including those of local fishermen.
In the morning, when the fishermen return from sea, you can even **buy freshly caught fish directly from them.

Third trip to Corsica and could not believe I found a place like this. Dream house with dream location. Beautiful historic home in a spectacular setting. My wife and I took our 18 year old son and six of his 18 year old friends. All of us enjoyed it immensely. It is a hike from restaurants and stores, but the trade off is quiet and uncrowded beautiful beaches. The Corsican shop owners we met were remarkably friendly and helpful. Every time we visited each of them would give us a gift cheese, bottle of wine, cakes, jams, roast chicken and more. Hiring a boat for a trip to Bonifacio (a must do) and Canyoneering were highlights. Owners were great to deal with and super responsive. They do suggest renting a four wheel drive to get in and out of the house, we would second that. Highly recommend!
Wahou !
