Everything great about this property for our 17 member family(3 generations)! Everyone had a lot of space, and it’s not for from spots we wanted to visit! Wish we could have stayed longer
This residence has 3 levels and a separate garage that has living quarters above it.There is extensive decking on all levels that is furnished and provides abundant and pleasant living and entertainment space. The kitchen is large and well stocked and is anchored by a central island that makes cooking a pleasure. Our host, Marty, is gracious and accommodating. There was a minor issue with the house that he swiftly and completely corrected. He excelled in communication and we felt very well taken care of.
Family Christmas Trip - Beautiful spacious home with privacy, views and the relaxing sounds of a nearby waterfall and it was decorated for Christmas - which was a bonus! We loved the outdoor sitting area by the fireplace.
The house is beautiful and honestly the absolute cleanest rental I’ve ever stayed in. It’s listed as pet friendly and I was traveling with a toddler so I spent a lot of time on the floor-there was not a dog hair to be found or hardly even a speck of dust. Super child friendly house with baby gates already installed and high chair available. Beautiful finishes, well stocked kitchen. We had a wonderful stay and would book again in a heartbeat.
Marty is an excellent host. We had no issues during our stay but communication leading up to our trip was phenomenal. We love this house - this was our second trip. We will be back! Kitchen is well stocked, home is very clean, we needed nothing!
This host was very easy to communicate with. We had plenty of space to spend some wonderful holiday time with our kids and grandkids . The kids had a blast on the zip line . We also really enjoyed the outdoor fireplace . We hope to come back next year!
We had such a great time staying at this property. We had four families with lots of kids. The large table on the deck was perfect for large meals. The rooms were all lovely and the bunk room was perfect for the kids.
We came to Highlands to get married at Skyline Lodge and my family stayed here. House and studio were exactly as described - perfect for 7 adults and 3 kids.
Enjoyed the wonderful home with family celebrating our Mom's 70th. Very spacious, great outdoor space, and excellent communication with the host. Accommodation for 7 adults and 6 kids (all girls) was great with the triple bunks.
Our family of ten had so much fun in Highlands . The house is fantastic. We loved all the rustic mountain details . Nestled in the treason all the greenery it was just magical. All the rooms were comfortable. Everything was clean. I highly recommend it.
Beautiful location. Grandkids loved the zip line. Had some issues and they were fixed immediately. We had 8 adults and 6 kids ages 17 months to 9 years. Loved the bunk room. Could use a few more forks and spoons especially with kids. Overall we had a great time .
We enjoyed celebrating a milestone anniversary with our family at this beautiful home! We loved the private location with the quick access to Highlands. The home owner was very responsive and helpful.

This property was perfect for our family. It is rare to find more than one king-sized bed in a Highland rental, and this one had 3 in the main house and one in the apartment. Since we had four couples plus kids, that was perfect. There was also plenty of dining space for our group of 13. The kitchen and house were equipped with everything we needed, and the younger kids enjoyed the downstairs den. We had a great time making S’mores in the outdoor fireplace! Unfortunately, it rained most of the weekend, so we could not enjoy the outdoor amenities, but we loved the quiet location, which was particularly nice since the house was only 10-15 minutes to Highlands. I would rent this property again.
Enjoyed a beautiful week with family in a lovely home that supplied everything needed. The kitchen was complete with pots, pans, utensils and spices. Both the indoor and outdoor fireplaces provided comfortable gathering opportunities and the home was spacious and secluded. Marty was quick and available at all times and the memories made will last a lifetime!
Fantastic place in great location JUST outside of highlands(very easy to get to).
The house was immaculate and there was ample space for the 8 adults and 4 kids (5&under) to coexist for a week.
Marty very attentive reachable and responsive.
An exemplary vrbo experience

Keith,
Thank you so much for the kind words, and for staying at out home. We hope you'll come back again!

We enjoyed our visit to Highlands, but the property fell short of expectations. For the price, the home felt outdated and in need of renovation. Much of the furniture was worn, uncomfortable, and appeared decades old. Several rooms had noticeable odors, particularly the basement, which smelled musty. A failed GFI outlet left half the kitchen without power, and discussions with the owner made it evident that there are known electrical issues that need to be addressed. While the location and layout of the house suited our group, we’ll be exploring other options for future stays.

I am glad that you enjoyed your stay, I am sorry that the home did not live up to your expectations as it has to most all of our other guests.
You notified me of the tripped GFI on Saturday afternoon. My electrician was able to get there Monday morning to reset it. I'm sorry that you were unable to reset it.
*The known issue is that if you run both coffee makers, the toaster oven, the dishwasher and the disposal all at the same time, the GFI may trip. (this has happened twice in 5 1/2 years)
I find it odd that no review was written for 11 days, and then only after I filed an insurance claim to replace the damaged property.
Beautiful home with plenty of room for our whole family. Tons of great porches surrounding the house with amazing views. Home was very clean with nice large bathrooms, closets and all the beds were very comfortable, which is often hard to find in rentals. The beautiful kitchen was very well stocked with everything I needed to prepare a brunch for my son’s wedding day. The extra bedroom apartment area above the garage was absolutely perfect for our friends to stay in with us, yet allowing them to still have their own private space. This home is in a nice quiet private location, yet very close to town and the extra directions to the home that are provided were very helpful! We will definitely be returning to this amazing home next time we are in the area:)) Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home and for making everything so simple to check in and out!
Highly recommend- beautiful and secluded but close to everything
We had the most amazing time in The Highlands with Lotts of Sky being one of the highlights. We needed a big space for family of 13. Our ages ranged from 69 to 18 months and this house was perfect! Secluded and beautiful with multiple levels and outside porches. The house was beautiful and well equipped! Plus pet friendly which was important to us. The kiddos loved the Zip line and playroom. And there was room for us to all gather at night and play games, as well as enough room to spread out for privacy. We made the best memories and even had a photographer come out to take family pictures- the area and landscaping was beautiful! Highly recommend- you won’t be disappointed

Lisa, we are so glad that you chose to spend your family time at our home. We hope to see you back again soon!
Well maintained. Enough firewood for 5 years. The only negative I have is their was clutter that should be hauled off organized or repaired. Game room was junky. Foos ball table was unplayable with men facing in wrong direction. Good response from owner - Had amazon drop off 5 dozen ping pong balls and a box of foos balls.
The property is very well suited for up to 4 couples with children. Any more couples and it would get tight. Cool rustic unique look. Plenty of play space for the kids. Well supplied with everything you need. The owner is accommodating and flexible. If I have anything negative to say it would be about the driveway access. It is narrow, steep and very curvy. But the owner can do nothing about that and as long as you take your time and no one is coming from the other direction you will be fine. All in all a very good place to hang out for a few days!
Fantastic location, close to town and only very short drives to some wonderful hiking spots. Pet friendly. The owner was very helpful in answering questions. Great setup with basically 3 master suites- one on each floor. We rented the house based on it having a covered outdoor fireplace that we loved! We also rented it for having a hot tub. The hot was not working. We reached out to the owner and he said it was supposed to have been repaired , but seemingly no effort was made to have anyone come back out for repairs during our stay. This was a big disappointment as we are big hikers and had looked forward to soaking in tit after our hikes.

The hot tub required a part that was ordered immediately. Unfortunately it was delivered the day after this guest left.
About the host

Greetings from the Lott/Bush family! Our family’s connection to vacation homes began in the 1970s when we rented a vacation cottage on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Over the years, that tradition has grown to include special places in Park City, Utah, and Lake Martin, Alabama — homes where our family has gathered, relaxed, explored, and created memories together.
When we discovered Lotts of Sky in Highlands, North Carolina, we immediately knew it was a special place. Surrounded by the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the home offered everything we value in a vacation experience: peaceful surroundings, comfortable spaces to gather, and opportunities to slow down and reconnect.
For our family, a vacation home has always been about more than a place to stay. It is where meals are shared, stories are told, traditions are created, and time together becomes the memories we carry with us.
We love sharing our homes with guests and hope Lotts of Sky becomes a place where your family and friends create their own unforgettable moments. Whether you are exploring nearby trails, relaxing on the porch, gathering around the fireplace, or simply enjoying the beauty of the mountains, we hope you feel the same connection to this special place that our family does.
One of our favorite nearby adventures is Whiteside Mountain, just minutes from Lotts of Sky. The views, changing seasons, and beauty of the Highlands area are reminders of why this place captured our hearts.
Welcome to Lotts of Sky. We hope your stay becomes part of your own family’s story.
Why they chose this property
When we discovered the Highlands-Cashiers area, we immediately understood why generations of families have returned here year after year. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the peaceful pace of life, and the welcoming community create a place that feels both special and timeless.
One of the things we love most about this area is the balance it offers. Lotts of Sky feels wonderfully private and surrounded by nature, yet the towns of Highlands and Cashiers are just minutes away. Guests can spend the morning hiking a mountain trail or chasing waterfalls, enjoy an afternoon exploring local shops and galleries, and end the day with an incredible meal at one of the area's many restaurants.
The Highlands-Cashiers Plateau offers endless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Explore iconic destinations like Whiteside Mountain, discover hidden waterfalls, spend a day on Lake Glenville, play a round of golf, or simply relax and take in the mountain views. Every season brings something new — cool summer mornings, brilliant fall colors, peaceful winter landscapes, and the fresh beauty of spring.
Beyond the scenery, what makes this area truly special is the sense of community. Highlands and Cashiers have maintained their small-town charm while offering exceptional dining, arts, events, and local experiences. It is a place where people slow down, reconnect, and create memories together.
That is exactly what drew us to Lotts of Sky — a place where families and friends can enjoy the beauty of the mountains while still being close to everything that makes Highlands such a special destination.
What makes this property unique
Lotts of Sky was created with one purpose in mind: bringing family and friends together in a place where everyone feels at home. After decades of creating memories in vacation homes of our own, we designed Lotts of Sky to be more than a place to sleep — it is a place to gather, relax, and reconnect.
At the center of the home is a chef’s kitchen designed for shared experiences. With a six-burner gas range, two ovens, generous workspace, and an open layout, it is the perfect place to prepare meals together, share stories, and enjoy the simple pleasure of gathering around the table.
The home naturally extends outdoors with expansive wraparound porches, a beautiful outdoor stone fireplace, and peaceful mountain surroundings. Enjoy coffee while listening to the sounds of Laurel Branch waterfall, spend evenings gathered around the fire, or simply relax and take in the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Families will especially appreciate the thoughtful spaces designed with everyone in mind. The dedicated screen-free kids’ zone features ping pong, foosball, mini pool, magnetic darts, cornhole, board games, and more. The bunk room gives children their own space to create adventures while adults enjoy the comfort of the rest of the home.
From multiple fireplaces and comfortable gathering spaces to the flexibility of the private carriage house for larger groups, every detail at Lotts of Sky was chosen to make time together easier, more comfortable, and more memorable.
Lotts of Sky is not just a vacation rental — it is a place designed for the moments that matter most: family meals, porch conversations, mountain adventures, and memories that last long after you return home.
