ARTIST MTN RETREAT

Stop dreaming about the Blue Ridge Mountains, and come experience them! Nestled in the Appalachian Mountains, Firefly Cottage provides a peaceful and cozy spot to spend your special time. It is the historical location of Orr's Store (please look inside the cottage to read more about the history). This is an efficiency apartment that includes one separate bedroom, one bathroom, plus a kitchen/dining/living area. We are located 3 miles from DuPont State Forest which provides waterfalls, hiking trails, and biking trails. Pisgah National Forest is located approximately 9 miles away. Enjoy the local breweries and shops in downtown Brevard and Hendersonville, NC. Eclectic Asheville and Asheville Regional Airport are only 30 minutes away.

Also, in the pictures, you will see the property cat "Blythe." He loves people and will most certainly welcome you. He will tell you he wants to come inside and hang out with you, but he is not allowed inside (only on the porch). He likes to smooth talk people into sharing their breakfast with him. Silly Blythe!

Quiet and Cozy

Lovely little cottage close to just about everything. Was a great anniversary getaway. Kim was very helpful with getting flowers, wine, and cheese for our stay. Will def stay here again next time we visit

Firefly Cottage is a Sweet Little Gem

The cottage is lovely and very homey. I loved the porch and the visiting cats. it's an easy drive to trails and town. Great farm stand just down the road.

Nice Mountain Getaway

This was a great little place to stay just minutes from DuPont state forest. It's perfect if you're flying solo or a couple looking for a mountain retreat. All the essentials were provided and then some, including some company from two friendly cats on the front porch! Overall, it was a nice, enjoyable stay.

Clean, cozy cottage near tons of great hiking trails. Fast wifi as well. Hosts were communicative, but not nosy. If I decide to visit this area again, I'd definitely stay here again.

Ideal location, everything we needed, responsive host

The cottage is located in an ideal spot, 5 minutes from Dupont trails, 10 minutes from Brevard and close to Hendersonville too. It had everything we needed at a great price. Our host was immediately available, thoughtful and generous to us. The cottage is just off a road so we could hear some traffic noise but enjoyed our stay very much.

Short but sweet visit

Was coming down to visit and see the area more in-depth and found this place perfectly located just outside of Brevard and just at the entrance to the DuPont Park. Everything I was looking for was just minutes away and the place itself was perfect for this getaway. The owner was very polite and very helpful, definitely wanting to make sure the stay was good and checked in via the app if I needed anything. Definitely on my list to rent again when back in the area.

Birthday Adventure Weekend

Really enjoyed the stay with this Vrbo, everything that was needed was in one spot . Was directly in the middle of some amazing nature hikes and mountain biking riding. Magical Weekend!

My best friend and I had the most unforgettable time at your cottage! Kitchen space was perfect for our meals for 2 and the space was filled with the cutest decorations and knick knacks. Kim was super communicative and gifted us some amazing little souvenirs to remember the space by! We will never forget our stay there thank you for all!!

A hidden gem

This is a great property very close to hiking, and well located between Hendersonville and Brevard. The bed was comfortable, the house very clean, the kitchen aptly equipped, and the rocking chair in the living room a great place to read and reflect on cold December days. Kim had trail maps, and local activities, and other resources placed in the cabin and was available to meet any needs. Additionally, The Flat Rock Wood Room is a great place to eat - the pretzels and BBQ were amazing!

Quaint and cozy!

This cottage is awesome. I was in town for a celebration of life on Slick Rock. The cottage was conveniently located and the history was awesome to read. SUPER clean and appointed with everything you need plus! Blythe the cottage kitty is so sweet. She jumped up in my lap while I was having my morning coffee in the rocker on the porch. The bed was very comfortable and I felt very safe. I definitely recommend the Firefly Cottage!

Firefly Cottage

Donna here, easy rental by 2 lovely ladies. Many extra little touches of comfort added you won't find in a hotel. Bed is "firm", sheets, pillows soft. Bthrm water hot, great pressure, towels super soft. Only bad thing beyond their control, is lots of loud traffic. It did die down appx. 9pm. Close to rivers with so much to do. Make sure you check out the end table drawer as it's full of brochures. You will enjoy your stay!

Highly accomodating and close to nature!

This cottage had everything we needed! We accidentally overlooked that it was attached to another occupied unit when we booked it (we prefer to stay at places without nearby neighbors) but nonetheless had complete privacy and didn't hear the neighbors at all during our 3 night stay. The cottage is kept very clean, tidy, and we greatly appreciated that it was equipped with household essentials such as paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap, hand soap, as well as linens and towels. It also has a tv with streaming apps (with a rocking chair, futon and blankets for comfort!), games, puzzles, and a covered porch entrance with outside furniture to enjoy the crisp mountain air. It is very conveniently located off a main, flat road (you can hear traffic on that road but it was not heavy at all during the night) and above all, it is just minutes away from several of the Dupont State Forest parking/access points! We knew that it is also close to Pisgah but we only visited Dupont (three times!) during our stay because we like that it is a smaller landmark, although big enough with numerous waterfalls, mountaintops, and hiking, biking, and equestrian trails that make up a total of over 80 miles. We found a local restaurant called Corky's Dawgs (under 10 miles away) that we enjoyed so much, we had to eat there twice. The owners of the cottage were extremely responsive before and during our stay, providing helpful tips on nearby points of interest. They even left us a very sweet note and gift because they knew we were celebrating our anniversary :) we highly recommend this cottage! Thank you Kim and Jerri!

Great weekend getaway

Great little cottage for a weekend getaway for two. Location was convenient to Brevard, Hendersonville, parks and waterfalls. The place was clean and thoughtfully stocked with some essentials. Kim went the extra mile to put out a portable firepit which we unfortunately didn't get to use because there was so much to do in the surrounding towns. We'd stay again for sure!

Mountain Biking weekend

Welcome to Firefly Cottage! We love nature and visiting local breweries. We also enjoy traveling. Kim is a native to Penrose and loves to share the cottage with guests. Her grandfather built the property back in the 1940's as a local store. We can't wait for you to read about the history inside. Leslye is from Ohio. She always knew she wanted to settle in the Appalachian Mountains. She is happy to now call Penrose "home."

Why they chose this property

I am a Western North Carolina native and grew up in Penrose. I love the mountains and everything nature has to offer.
My grandfather built this unit in the 1940s. It was historically known as Orr's Store. I would love to host you and share a little piece of history with you.
