This property is a delight: the house is solidly cozy, clean, and with enough space for everyone. The yard and deck make everything even more spacious, and the hosts are kind and welcoming.
6 of us came for Apple Fest weekend and enjoyed our stay - the gas fireplace was cozy on the cool Fall nights and the hosts left wine and bread from local stores for us to enjoy. Would stay again.
We really enjoyed our stay! Great hosts and a beautiful setting! We did a lot of day trips and enjoyed coming back each night and playing games as a family. Thank you for a wonderful week!

Jessica, Joe and Henry were great guests and an inspiring young family. Enjoyed spending a little social time with them and hope they visit us again. We will have chickens and eggs for Henry to feed and collect.
We spent 5 days at this lovely farmhouse and could not have asked for better accommodations. The place was clean, cozy, and comfortable with plenty of room for 5 adults. The hosts were friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome.

Great family and wonderful guests. Highly recommend hosting them.
Such a great place! We were a 10 min drive to the lake and activities but had plenty of space at the “farmhouse” to stay active. This place has great trails, yard for a pick up game with the kids and super friendly hosts.

Thanks for bringing your lovely family to the farmstead. Cool kids, sister, nephew, parents…
As always we loved our stay at the Farmstead! We had everything we needed and more. The house is beautiful, clean, well cared for, and cozy. The view is amazing and our kids loved seeing all the animals and helping with feeding time. We will be back!
Hosts were so great and easy to work with. Kids enjoyed seeing the ducks, chickens and pig, and seeing the Ashland/Bayfield area sights (and swimming at the nearby beaches of course!) The house was charming and unique and comfortable!
We had a wonderful weekend stay at the Farmstead. The house was very well kept. The hosts Dan and Kathy are very kind and communicate well.

My friends and I had a great experience at Dan & Kathy's. We were in town for Book Across the Bay, which was unfortunately cancelled, but we had a fantastic weekend nonetheless cross-country skiing at Mt. Ashwabay. Dan & Kathy were very friendly and responsive. I also appreciated the well-equipped kitchen! Wouldn't hesitate to return!
We had a wonderful stay at the farmhouse! The house is beautiful and pristine, check in was easy and Dan and Kathy made sure we had everything we needed. Our toddler loved watching pigs and chickens from the back door and we loved waking up to the beautiful views. Local foods coop, bakery, and coffee shop in Ashland were definitely a bonus for us!

It was a pleasure hosting you all. Looking forward to next time.
It was truly amazing! All the comforts of home and so relaxing. No hustle and bustle of traffic and being cooped up in a motel room. Granddaughter got to play on the huge deck and was able to see the animals. Highly recommend and hopefully returning again!
A very nice visit to the farm--relaxing, but due to unseasonably warm temps a bit uncomfortable with no AC. Would have enjoyed a more convenient shower also. Great property and farm house!

Thanks for the review and reminder to potential guests. The 100 year old farmstead has been completely renovated (inside and out) keeping with the initial profile and essence. Clawfoot tub inside. No shower inside, but an outdoor solar assisted shower off the deck. No AC. Aggressive ceiling fans and box fans provided. Gets pretty cool most nights even when the days are hot.
We enjoyed the solitude this farmhouse provided. The owner was friendly but gave us our space. The house was gorgeous and was well stocked. It had everything we wanted and more. The kitchen was amazing and we were very comfortable during our stay. We could tell that the owners enjoy providing a wonderful experience, with a lot of attention to charm and detail.

Thanks so much for your lovely review. You’re correct. We enjoy hosting and meeting our guests. Hope to see you both again.
We came up to do the point-to-la pointe swim and decided to make a little summer vacation out of the swim. There were a few kiddos and adults so Dan and Kathy's place was absolutely perfect for entertaining two very busy 2 year olds. The house was beautiful as well as the surrounding land, animals and trails. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a quiet respite, this is your place.

You were a pleasure to host. Glad the house worked for you all. Appreciate the pointers on the welcome book.
A quiet getaway in a charming restored farmhouse. The kitchen was well equipped and the bedrooms comfortable. The parlor was cute. A comfy sofa or chair might be nice in there. The wrap around deck was immense and we would have enjoyed it given nicer weather. Fun to see the 2 piglets! Thx for a nice stay.

Glad you enjoyed yourselves. Love to host you again.
Property is absolutely beautiful. Well worth not staying at a hotel. The hosts were very easy to talk with and very hospitable. The check in/out was smooth. You cant beat waking up to open fields on the porch listening to the chickens and drinking a nice cup of coffee. It is a extremely nice break from a fast pace modern world.

About the host
Hosted by Dan & Kathy Smith
Dan & Kathy purchased the property in September 2020 and immediately embarked on a full renovation inside and out. Keeping the farmhouse's main design, they demolished the interior down to the studs and proceeded to install new plumbing, electrical and septic systems, raised ceilings, opened the stairway, replaced and refinished floors, walls, ceilings, etc.
Owners live on adjacent property and look forward to hosting visitors to the area. Dan is a retired business owner and Kathy is a Presbyterian minister.
Why they chose this property
If you truly want a quiet, rural retreat this is a place you will enjoy. With a mix of open and wooded acreage, pond, trails and next to working farm land this is a gentle introduction to living closer to nature. Eagles are regular visitors overhead, cranes, geese and ducks visit the pond, deer are frequently seen and at night coyotes and an occasional wolf can be heard near the river (3 miles away). Coffee on the porch in the morning can be followed by sunsets in the evening and star gazing at the fire pit! The breezy openness keeps the warmest days more comfortable.
