Wallowa Lake and the Wallowa Mountains are special gems of Oregon. Nestled in Wallowa County in the northeast corner of the state, the high mountains and glacial lake are a place for solace and enjoyment.

The Sweet Cabin at Wahluna Terrace Retreat is located close to the public beach and boat launch area at the north end of Wallowa Lake. It is the property from which many of the iconic Wallowa Lake and Wallowa Mountain photos were taken. Enjoy swimming, boating, fishing, hiking or relaxing while you visit. Shop in downtown Joseph and challenge yourself to experience the many hiking trailheads and explore the mountains from multiple entry points.

Wallowa County is a place where a strong sense of community prevails and you will be welcomed. Take a drive to the small town of Imnaha along the Imnaha River and have a meal at the historic Imnaha Stove and Tavern or explore the expansive Zumwalt Prairie known for its beautiful wildflowers, large elk herds, multiple bird species and historic cattle ranching. No matter what direction you choose to roam, there are beautiful sites to see, great people to meet and wonderful experiences to be had.

This is a great location right across the highway from the lake. Town is nine miles away. Perfect for fishing or boating or just exploring the Area.

We had a wonderful stay at this cute cabin. It was well stocked with many items I didn't expect to find. The furniture was comfortable and the entire place was spotless. We will be back!

Beautiful mountain getaway

Perfect house for my husband and I. The view of the mountains and lake is incredible. We really enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the deer. We’ll be back!!

The perfect location!

We absolutely loved staying here. It was located right across the street from the lake with great views from the property, and only a mile from town. The photos don't do this place justice - the property is beautiful and the rental unit is so cute! It had everything we needed and we loved coming home after a day of adventuring and sitting on the deck watching the lake, and all the deer that would come into the yard. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.

The view was lovely & the property was decorated out a magazine. Every possible amenity was thoughtfully provided. Diane was easily available for questions. One of best VRBOs I have stayed at in the world! Hope to be back next year.

Wahuna Terrace

My sister and I really enjoyed staying at this bright, cheery, clean and charming place. We spent most of our evenings watching the doe, young buck, 5 point buck and twin fawns that wander the property. The views of the lake, the mountains and the teepee across the way are majestic, and at the same time so peaceful.

Wonderful week!

This cabin has been tastefully updated and was a peaceful place to relax after enjoying all that the area has to offer. We had daily visits from local deer, morning coffee on the deck with a peekaboo view of the lake, and quiet nights. Location was excellent, with walking access to the dock across the street, an easy drive to the lake’s resort area in one direction, or Joseph in the other. Highly recommend!

We loved the location of this property. The view from the deck is so peaceful and relaxing. The updated home was perfect for our needs. It was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the town of Joseph…good food, coffee and shopping. We especially enjoyed the hike up the East Moraine. The views of the mountains, lake and wildflowers were stunning! We also did the night kayaking which was on our bucket list! Also took a day and drove to Hells Canyon. We were in awe of its beauty. Took in the painted Hills on the way home. Our first visit to this part of Oregon was unforgettable.

Great location, beautiful lake

Great location, close to the lake. We rent a kajak which was great. Also took de Wallowa tramway and did a nice hike to east peak, which was beautiful. Cabin got everything we needed. We liked that there was a washing machine for our clothes. Drinking water was supplied. Liked the relaxing chair in the living room. There's also another cabin at the grounds, which has the better views of the lake. But also the extra costs of course. Oh and we liked the deer family that came by everyday!

Joseph and Wallowa Lake

I would give the property an A in cleanliness. Comfort of furniture and bed , the shower and kitchen however an F in entry to driveway from highway (dangerous at night) and hard to find. One should not attempt entry from South. Also, Diane needs to clearly mark step up into bedroom area or rent to younger eyes. My wifetook a nasty fall and we are still treating skin injuries which should heal over time without much more than cleansing and dressing changes. Ben Balme

20th Anniversary Trip

We absolutely loved staying here, and the view of the mountains was spectacular! We saw deer everyday munching on the apples in the yard. The house had everything you’d need. Thank you Diane!

This was a great little place. The updated wood walls/ceiling/floors/cabinetry/even doors on rollers will make you think you're staying in a cabin (until you see the standard mobile-home style bathroom). Loved the additions that made it more special: the engraved Eagle Cap Wilderness wall art, bbq grill, instant filtered hot or cold water at our dispense, a flashlight, curved shower curtain rod, easy to maneuver Roman shades, and the delicious gourmet coffee that was left for us to use. Deer love to walk around and graze or rest all around the property! It was so fun to watch! And star gazing can be done 3+hrs after sunset. Constellations, the Milky Way, and shooting stars are all easily viewed right from the patio - which is also a good place to slow dance if you bring a Bluetooth speaker. The coffee maker should be replaced with one that has an auto-shut off feature. I left it on a couple of times because I'm not used to one that stays on. On the flip side, a few other things that might be nice additions to consider at this rental: blankets, soft throw pillows, patio furniture cushions, a strainer, a few games to play, binoculars, or a guest book to sign/read through. Just some ideas. Most everything else you could think of needing was already there and easy to find. It may be helpful to know that even though you see the lake in the background of the photo, you must walk across the highway to get there, which is a 5-10 minute walk from the rental entrance. Diane was prompt, friendly and accommodating in her communication! We'd definitely recommend this place to friends and family.

Very nice, newly remodeled little house. Great spot to be for Wallowa lake fun. Spectacular views right across from the lake. Loved watching the baby fawns playing in the yard.

Charming Home

This was a last minute booking and so lucky to find this charming home. It was in walking distance to the beach/ swim area and the boat launch. This made it easy for us to meet up with family on the lake. Lots of deer to watch and the home had everything we needed. Easy to find and loved the story.

Lovely little house by the lake

My fiancé and I had the most wonderful long weekend at the house. It’s located just across the highway from a public access to Wallowa Lake. The view of the mountain range and the lake from the patio is just lovely. The house was excellently maintained and stocked. It was also perfectly located in relation to Joseph and Wallowa Lake State Park. I’d highly recommmend this rental!

Our family has lived, laughed, worked, loved and played in this beautiful valley for generations. We consider ourselves fortunate to be here and want to share some of the beauty and wonder with others.

Why they chose this property

Wahluna Terrace Subdivision was established in the 1950's creating a few lots on the terminal moraine (glacial deposit creating a water barrier to hold the lake waters) of Wallowa Lake. From there, the most iconic lake and mountain views can be enjoyed. With the adoption of land use planning laws as well as the citizens' desire to protect the area, there will likely not be additional lots created. So, we treasure this property and hope it will be in our family for generations to come.

The subdivision was named after 'Wahluna' who was a daughter of Chief Red Wolf of the Wallowa Band Nez Perce (Nimi'ipuu) people. According to the legend (full story is in the house for you), she is remembered as the 'Great peacemaker'.

What makes this property unique

The location of the cabin is great. Not only does it have great views, it is a short distance to the beaches and the boat ramp at the north end of the lake. It is close to downtown Joseph or go the other direction and find yourself at the south end of the lake where there are attractions, trail heads and lots of things to do. It is just a short distance west to the Iwtemlaykin park or to the trailhead that accesses the top of the moraine for a nice long hike! But, most of all, it is comfortable. Stay in and relax...
