Travel back in time nearly 200 years and stay at the Bazil Gordon House -built by America's first millionaire. Circa 1820, this house started as the private home of Bazil Gordon a short walk from his trading outpost in Historic Falmouth, VA directly on the Rappahannock River. The house has also been a civil war hospital, a stop on the underground railroad, a tavern, an excavation site that found venetian trade beads in the back yard, and it is now completely remodeled in 2021 to host guests.

We were here for our son’s graduation from UMW. The home was had everything we needed and was super clean and comfortable. While a historic property, the inside is completely modern. It was also super convenient to everything in town. We very much enjoyed hanging out on the front porch and the as the weather was lovely. And also walking across the street to the park and river. Thank you so much!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We love history and we were thrilled to live within the storied walls, if only for a few days. There were plenty of towels, clean bedding and a well-stocked kitchen. We will have beautiful, peaceful memories of our time here and we are grateful to our host for a lovely weekend.
Adorable, fully-renovated historic house! Very close to downtown Fredericksburg with tons of options for coffee shops and restaurants. Booked this for myself and three co-workers so the four bedrooms were ideal.
A great place to stay in an area so steeped in history. Perfect for our family's long holiday weekend. Communication with the owner was good and house was located centrally to Fredericksburg and all of its historic attractions.
We had a great time and the house had everything that we needed. I didn’t know how to change the temperature on the second floor, but the response was super quick and was resolved within two minutes of me sending a message! It worked perfectly it was just user error.
Convenient location near sites in downtown Fredericksburg, and a stones throw from a lovely shaded, paved walking path. Comfortable home for our family of four.
Everything about our stay was perfect. We came in for my son's High Graduation and had a lovely time. The beds were all unanimously super comfortable. We were also very appreciative of the early check-in. We highly recommend this property for anyone coming to the Fredericksburg, VA area.
Loved this rental! The six of us had plenty of room. The house was very clean and well appointed. Nice yard and great front and rear porches. Will definitely recommend.
An amazing background and story for an historic home, that one can experience as part of the feel as part of a visit to the Old Dominion.
We really appreciated the experience, and loved the home.
For a great price, I’d say it was definitely worthwhile as a place to stay, as well as an excellent historic backdrop and a most memorable vacation highlight.
We loved the location of the home. It was very centrally located for all we wanted to do. You could feel the history around you! The home itself was very well laid out. It was set up in a way that allowed us to be together in the evening, but we each had a room to go to at the end of the day. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were cozy! We would definitely stay here again.
I stayed at the Bazil Gordon home with friends and family for a three day weekend. We were celebrating the recovery of our friend who was in a catastrophic accident one year ago. This is the first time she had left her Mother's home. We sat on the peaceful back deck and enjoyed the "old south' lawn, as well as the neighbor's beautiful gardens. It could not have been more peaceful. The house was very clean and neatly organized. Thank you to Jared who did everything he could to make our stay possible. Rent this house with confidence.
The Basil Gordon house is a gem. Well-kept and we’ll-equipped along with a super location convenient to Fredericksburg and shopping (groceries, etc). The owner provides all the info you need in a printed binder. The only downside was some exterior/vehicular noise, but I’m still going with a 5-star rating. You will not be disappointed.
My wife and I along with our guest love the location love the house love the layout it was perfect. One point to let you know about the upstairs bathroom it faces the back wall, the shower curtain and the seal around the bathtub is getting to be a little moldy. Otherwise everything was great and we do it again if we were in the area.
Visiting a historic area and staying in the Brazil Gordon house completed our experience. The arrangement of the four upstairs bedrooms and two bathrooms created privacy for each family. We had grandparents on the front end of the house and a family of four facing the backyard. The river park across the street was an additional pleasant surprise. We dined at the wonderful cafe within easy walking distance. Even though the house is old the renovations have created modern day comforts with tasteful decor. Would be interested in staying there again? Absolutely!
We had the privilege of staying at the Gordon Basil house for a week. This was such a fun place to stay, away from the city but close enough to enjoy day trips to the capital and surrounding history.
The house is a beautiful mix of its historic significance and modern comforts. The space was perfect for our family of 5 to 6. The house was old and it was exciting to imagine what each room may have looked like 200 years ago. The kitchen was large and modern, the bedrooms were large enough with space to move around. The dining room and living room were comfortable and beautiful. The exposed brick was beautiful. The back yard was a garden! Very lush and beautiful filled with fireflies each evening.
The laundry room is in the basement, but that is to be expected in a old building such as this and we enjoyed considering the purpose of this space long ago. We loved our stay. Thank you.
Perfect for our small family Christmas gathering! Everyone loved this house. The decor and modernizations with also keeping keeping some original elements to the house was great along with the history! I’m sure the family was expecting some paranormal activity but I did not hear of any or see any while there. Plenty of space for everyone, the kitchen was very spacious with also a great loft at the top! The view was awesome of the river, however just be advised that if we get lots of rain the river will flood down further down River Rd past the parking for the trail access so chances are vdot will close the road which unfortunately happened to us while we were there, but we were still able to get to our driveway. There is a great seating area with a fire pit in the back, unfortunately we did not use it due to the freezing temps after the storm. Laundry is located in the basement. Porch area with seating in the front and the back. There was a grill there but we did not use it. Driveway is difficult to see at night, ample parking behind the house for 3-4 cars/ small suvs, however if you have a large truck parking with those cars in the back was a little difficult, there is a tree in the back that is along the driveway which is difficult to see if you are trying to back out. So if anything I would suggest a spotlight on the tree just for easier night visibility. My husband just resorted to parking his truck on the main straightaway of the driveway and we could just move the truck in and out if people needed to leave. We did experience some water pressure issues if we had two water features running at the same time, Jared did inform us ahead of time there would probably be an issue with the pressure due to it being a county fix in the area. Easy Trail and bike access and close the all the great restaurants and shopping of Fredericksburg and the Central Park shopping area. My in-laws wanted to buy the house! Would definitely stay here again.
I am a VRBOer - this is the 4th VRBO property I’ve stayed in this year and it was THE BEST!! Best location-wise (you can get to EVERYTHING within minutes - including WALKING to a great breakfast place!, Best parking, Best amenities - have found COVID seems to equal “bring your own everything” but this place had it all, I felt so pampered! and above-all, BEST HISTORY! We do a family Christmas Adventure each year in lieu of gifts - this year I chose Fredericksburg and WE LOVED IT! Now we want to come for a summer visit and YES, we will be looking at this AWESOME PROPERTY!!
We were beyond happy! This is a beautiful home steeped in history but brought into this century with beautiful decorating design and thoughtful appointments. The living spaces were roomy and easily provided for the 6 of us (8 for 1 night) the sound/alarm machines were a nice touch. The kitchen had all we needed. We spent a great deal of time on the deck and at the fire pit which was perfect! Located directly across from a park walking trail, we enjoyed exploring the beautiful scenery by the river. A wonderful experience! I would highly recommend to anyone and especially those who appreciate thoughtful beauty in comfortable home setting!!
